Japanese research on wear of materials during the last 100 years is reviewed. Recent trends in research work include the lubrication mechanism of surrounding gas molecules in wear, mutual transfer and growth theory for the formation process of wear particles, the fatigue concept, the seizure of metals, the effect of oil lubricants on wear and abrasive wear. These new topics are discussed and brief comments are given on them. The academic societies in the field of wear in Japan and their activities are also stated.  相似文献

This article describes the method for measuring the isotopic abundance of 10B in nuclear grade boron carbide using inductively coupled plasma-quadrupole mass spectrometry (ICP-QMS). The results of investigation revealed that both the integration time and the dwell time have a major influence on the reproducibility of ICP-QMS measurements. As a result of optimization of the measurement conditions, reproducibility below 0.2% relative standard deviation (RSD) (0.17% RSD maximum) was achieved. In addition, the measured value of the isotopic abundance of 10B for each sample well agreed with the values measured by the TIMS. Thus, the method described in the present investigation was very effective in the analysis of isotopic abundance of 10B in B4C or H3BO3. The results of this study suggest that ICP-QMS could be applied to the precise analysis of the isotopic abundance of 10B required in the field of nuclear applications.  相似文献

The melting of a vertical ice cylinder into a homogeneous calcium chloride aqueous solution inside a rotating cylindrical cavity with several rotating speeds is considered experimentally. The melting mass and temperature are measured on four initial conditions of the solution and four rotating speeds of the cavity. The temperature of the liquid layer becomes uniform by the mixing effect resulting from cavity rotation and it enhances the melting rate of the ice cylinder. As the cavity‐rotating speed increases, the melting rate increases. The dimensionless melting mass is related to the Fourier number and the rotating Reynolds number in each initial condition, therefore an experimental equation that is able to quantitatively calculate the dimensionless melting mass is presented. It is seen that the melting Nusselt numbers increase again in the middle of the melting process. The ice cylinder continues to melt in spite of the small temperature difference between the ice cylinder and the solution. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. This paper presents the principle and basic characteristics of a novel linear synchronous motor based on “half‐wave rectified self excitation principle.” The field winding is short circuited through a diode and the armature winding consists of conventional three‐phase windings. If the amplitude of the balance three‐phase currents is modulated by an alternating wave with bias frequency, the produced magnetomotive force pulsates at the bias frequency and moves at the synchronous velocity. This pulsating magnetomotive force induces the electromotive force with a bias frequency in the field winding. The field excitation is obtained by rectifying the electromotive force with the diode in the field winding. In this paper, the authors design and build an experimental machine and confirm its basic characteristics. They also deduce the performance equations and investigate the thrust ripple reduction. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The effects of applied strain rate on the viscoelastic crack bifurcation phenomenon in Polymethyl Methacrylate (PMMA) were investigated. It was still verified that the product σfCb12 was constant, as was already observed by Congleton and Petch, and Anthony, Chubb and Congleton, for brittle elastic materials, for any strain rate, where σf = the gross fracture stress and Cb= the main crack length until the bifurcation starts. However, it was found that the higher strain rate increases the main crack length Cb resulting in the decrease in the gross fracture stress σf and vice versa. This might be interpreted that the higher stress concentration at the initiation crack tip, which is realized by becoming more brittle due to the higher strain rate owing to the predominance of the elastic element in the viscoelastic material, decreases the gross fracture stress leading to the longer main crack length.  相似文献

In this paper, the optimal periodic replacement-like strategy with minimal repairs is considered under an intermittently used environment. Suppose that transactions or jobs with exponential service times arrive at a system according to a homogeneous Poisson process and the system is alternatively in either a busy or an idle period subject to demand for use. We derive approximately the optimal preventive maintenance schedule which minimizes the relevant expected cost criterion for the system which behaves intermittently on an M/M/1 queueing process, and compare it with the usual maintenance schedule for the continuously used system.  相似文献

Chemiluminescence (CL) detection integrated with a microchip capillary electrophoresis (MCE) system that was fabricated in poly(dimethylsiloxane) was demonstrated for chemical and biochemical analyses. Two model CL systems were involved here: metal ion-catalyzed luminol-peroxide reaction and dansyl species conjugated peroxalate-peroxide reaction. Different strategies based on three chip patterns (cross, cross combining with Y, and cross combining with V) to perform on-line CL detection for MCE were evaluated and compared in terms of sensitivity, reproducibility, and peak symmetry. The chip pattern of cross combining with Y proved to be promising for the luminol-peroxide CL system, while the chip pattern of cross combining with V was preferred for the peroxalate-peroxide system where CL reagent could not be effectively transported by electroosmotic flow. A detection limit down to submicromolar concentrations (midattomole) was achieved with good reproducibility and symmetric peak shape. Successful separation of three metal cations such as Cr(III), Co(II), and Cu(II) and chiral recognition of dansyl phenylalanine enantiomers within 1 min revealed distinct advantages of combining MCE with CL detection for rapid and sensitive analyses.  相似文献

Determination of fatigue fracture toughness,K fc, is made by rotary bending specimen considering partial contact of fatigue cracked surfaces in the compression side of the beam specimen. It is shown thatK fc is a material constant independent of the nominal stress at the notch section, the specimen geometry, and the shape of the final fracture area.
Résumé On détermine la ténacité à la rupture par fatigueK fc à l'aide d'éprouvetes soumises à flexion rotative, en considérant le contact partiel entre les surfaces fissurées par fatigue, au cours de la phase de compression. On montre queK fc est une constante du matériau, indépendante de la tension nominale au droit de la section entaillée, de la géométrie de l'éprouvette, et de la forme de la surface finale de rupture.

Nuclear spin-lattice relaxation properties of hcp solid 3He with 4He impurities have been studied. At temperatures below the exchange plateau region, three kinds of relaxation time were observed. To analyze the data, a phenomenological four-bath model was developed, the four baths being the Zeeman bath, the phonon bath, an X-bath, and a Y-bath. The X-bath consists of the exchange bath and a part of the 4He-4He elastic interaction bath. The Y-bath is the main part of the elastic interaction bath. We measured the concentration dependence of the energy constants of all the baths, as well as the temperature and concentration dependences of the three kinds of relaxation time. The relaxation behavior corresponding to the process between the X-bath and the Y-bath could not be expressed by a single exponential function of time and the relaxation rate was strongly dependent on the concentration. This process may be related to the internal thermal equilibrium process within the elastic interaction bath. The impurity-dependent relaxation time between the X-bath and the phonon bath had a temperature dependence of T –n with n = 7.4±0.3.  相似文献

Anomalous thermal and NMR behavior has been observed in liquid 3He in contact with a single crystal of Cu(NH3)4 · SO4 · H2O, which is a magnetically one-dimensional substance. In the presence of a temperature gradient in the vertical direction and parallel to the crystal surface, the temperature of the system and the 3He NMR signal change abruptly at a temperature just above the antiferromagnetic transition temperature of the salt (0·43 K). From the experimental results it is suggested that at the onset of the anomaly the spin-lattice relaxation time of 3He is reduced and a flow is induced in liquid 3He near the surface of the crystal.This work was supported by a Research Grant of the Iwatani Naoji Foundation and a Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research (Japan).  相似文献
