For the purpose of developing liquid crystalline microactuators, the transient behaviors of a nematic liquid crystal between two parallel plates have been computed for various parameters such as applied voltage, the gap between the plates, and the twist and tilt angles at the plates. The Leslie-Ericksen theory has been selected as a constitutive equation. The twist angle has an effect on the induced velocity profiles; for example, the induced flow is planar at the twist angle of 0°, while the flow has an out-of-plane component when the twist angle is not 0°. Transient behaviors of shear stress acting on the plates, the flowrate, and the maximum values of the velocity, and the tilt angle between the plates have been reported. In addition, we have investigated the effects of the applied voltage, the gap between the plates, and the tilt angle at the plates on the above-mentioned values. We can develop microactuators with arbitrary characteristics by suitably controlling the applied voltage, the size of the actuators, and the director anchoring conditions.  相似文献

In this study, we characterized polystyrene-binding peptides (PS-tags) that possess a specific binding affinity for hydrophilic polystyrene (phi-PS) plates. Both the FITC-labeled PS19-1 (RAFIASRRIKRP) and PS19-6 (RIIIRRIRR) peptides showed strong binding affinity for commercially available hydrophilic, but not hydrophobic, PS plates in the presence of the non-ionic surfactant Tween 20. The dissociation constants (Kd) of the PS19-1 and PS19-6 peptides for the hydrophilic PS-A plate were 169 and 86 nM, respectively, and the Kd of both peptides increased with the concentration of NaCl or urea. Based on adsorption yield and residual activity of glutathione S-transferase (GST) after fusion with the PS19-6 peptide or its variants, it was found that the basic amino acid in the PS-tags, i.e., Arg was essential for the strong binding affinity of PS-tags in both the peptide and peptide-fused protein forms The aliphatic amino acids in PS19-6 and PS19-6L, such as Ile or Leu, were also effective. Thus, a series of PS-tags that possess this unusual feature, especially the peptides PS19-6 (RIIIRRIRR) and PS19-6L (RLLLRRLRR), are potential candidate affinity peptide tags for site-specific immobilization of proteins onto hydrophilic PS plates, which show potential as solid supports for protein-based biochips.  相似文献

We have attempted to develop high‐performance and safe fuel cells by using ammonium formate as a solid (powder) fuel. This solid fuel has the potential of safer transportability than liquid fuels such as methanol from the viewpoint of toxicity and flammability. In order to make use of some of the advantages of ammonium formate, we investigated the oxidation characteristics of ammonium formate with respect to a Pt electrode. Cyclic voltammograms indicate that ammonium formate has high oxidation activity with respect to a Pt electrode. We have also found that the oxidation of ammonium formate can be improved by the addition of Ir to Pt catalysts. It is highly likely that ammonium formate will be useful as a solid (powder) fuel for polymer electrolyte membrane (PEM) fuel cells. A method to construct optimal memoryless regulators of large‐scale systems with time delays in the interconnections and the states is proposed. Each feedback gain of decentralized control laws is obtained directly from solutions of simultaneous linear matrix inequalities. First, a sufficient condition for the stability of the overall closed‐ loop system is presented. Then it is extended so that the overall system and each subsystem remain stable, even if all or some of the interconnections between subsystems are cut. Lastly, a simplification of the implementation is discussed in the perspective of feedback loop reduction. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Dense submicron-grained alumina ceramics were fabricated by pulse electric current sintering (PECS) using M2+(M: Mg, Ca, Ni)-doped alumina nanopowders at 1250 °C under a uniaxial pressure of 80 MPa. The M2+-doped alumina nanopowders (0–0.10 mass%) were prepared through a new sol–gel route using high-purity polyhydroxoaluminum (PHA) and MCl2 solutions as starting materials. The composite gels obtained were calcined at 900 °C and ground by planetary ball milling. The powders were re-calcined at 900 °C to increase the content of α-alumina particles, which act as seeding for low-temperature densification. Densification and microstructural development depend on the M2+ dopant species. Dense alumina ceramics (relative density ≥99.0%) thus obtained had a uniform microstructure composed of fine grains, where the average grain size developed for non-doped, Ni-doped, Mg-doped and Ca-doped samples was 0.67, 0.67, 0.47 and 0.30 μm, respectively, showing that Ca-doping is the most promising method for tailoring of nanocrystalline alumina ceramics.  相似文献

New porous solids from alumina-pillared fluorine micas (APMs), which were obtained from synthetic Na-tetrasilicic fluorine mica [NaMg2.5Si4O10F2], were prepared by sulfuric acid-treatment under mild conditions at 25 °C. The products were investigated by XRD, ICP, SEM, TEM and N2 adsorption–desorption isotherm at 77 K. XRD measurements indicated that the interlayer pillared structure having a large basal spacing collapsed during the early stages of the acid-treatment. ICP analyses indicated that Al3+ and Mg2+ ions were leached out from the pillared micas during the acid-treatment. The pore properties of the leached products were found to differ from those of the mother pillared micas: the acid leaching of the pillared micas leads to the formation of mesopores around 3.2 nm in diameter. The correlation between the change in pore properties and cation elution behavior suggests that the mesopore formation results from the leaching of Mg2+ ions from the octahedral sheet of the pillared micas. The leached products thus obtained retained the flaky morphology of the mother pillared micas. These results show that the mild acid-treatment using APMs provides a novel route for obtaining unique mesopore solids having the large particle sizes of the mother micas.  相似文献

To increase the productivity of knowledge workers, it is necessary to manage their organization so that they are motivated to collaborate with each other for their synergy. However, it is difficult for managers to grasp the explicit interactions of workers in the organization all the time. Owing to advanced communications technology, and the reduced size and improved capabilities of computers, we are able to record group behaviors as logging data in the office. The aim of this study is to extract features of group behavior from long-range office-logging data. We apply principal component analysis to the data matrix whose element is the mean travel velocity calculated from an individual’s trajectory per day. The results demonstrate the feasibility of our approach, since nontrivial informative group features can be extracted.  相似文献

The dyeing process for a cellulose membrane–direct dye system is analyzed based on a parallel transport mechanism of surface and pore diffusion with Freundlich isotherm. Numerical solutions were obtained in order to clarify how the surface and pore diffusion resistances affect the uptake curve. The numerical solutions were also compared with an analytical solution for surface diffusion control to establish the range where the analytical solution can be considered as an acceptable approximation. The uptake curves in the cellulose membrane-chromophore (C.I. Direct Yellow 12) system in the presence of inorganic electrolyte were measured. The rate of adsorption and the maximum amount of adsorption increased with an increase in the concentration of those electrolytes. The rate of adsorption was approximately controlled by the surface diffusion rather than by pore diffusion. The surface diffusivities of the dye were little affected by either the concentration and or nature of the electrolyte.  相似文献

Hypoxia-inducible factor (HIF)-2α is considered to play a major role in the progression of osteoarthritis. Recently, it was reported that pressure amplitude influences HIF-2α expression in murine endothelial cells. We examined whether hydrostatic pressure is involved in expression of HIF-2α in articular chondrocytes. Chondrocytes were cultured and stimulated by inflammation or hydrostatic pressure of 0, 5, 10, or 50 MPa. After stimulation, heat shock protein (HSP) 70, HIF-2α, nuclear factor kappa B (NF-κB), matrix metalloproteinase (MMP)-13, MMP-3, and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) gene expression were evaluated. The levels of all gene expression were increased by inflammatory stress. When chondrocytes were exposed to a hydrostatic pressure of 5 MPa, HIF-2α, MMP-13, and MMP-3 gene expression increased significantly although those of HSP70 and NF-κB were not significantly different from the control group. In contrast, HIF-2α gene expression did not increase under a hydrostatic pressure of 50 MPa although HSP70 and NF-κB expression increased significantly compared to control. We considered that hydrostatic pressure of 5 MPa could regulate HIF-2α independent of NF-κB, because the level of HIF-2α gene expression increased significantly without upregulation of NF-κB expression at 5 MPa. Hydrostatic pressure may influence cartilage degeneration, inducing MMP-13 and MMP-3 expression through HIF-2α.  相似文献

Ultrasonic welding of mild steel sheet (SPCC) and aluminium alloy sheet (A5052) was conducted using two different weld tips of a knurled tip (K-tip) and a curved shape tip without knurled edges (C-tip). Behaviours of the weld tip and the welded materials during the weld process were analysed using a high-speed camera observation and an image correlation. The C-tip welding shows a completely different displacement behaviour from the K-tip welding; a relative motion between the tool tip and A5052 in contact with the tip predominantly occurs in the C-tip in contrast to a relative motion between A5052 and SPCC observed in the K-tip. The joint strength using the C-tip was higher than that using the K-tip under the weld conditions in this study. It is demonstrated that the relative motion behaviour in the C-tip causes a macroscopic deformation of A5052 in the vibration direction. This phenomenon promotes growth of a bonded region, resulting in the increase of joint strength. It is surmised that Fe–Al intermetallic layer forms at the weld interface, and the joint strength consequently decreases for the longer weld time condition.  相似文献
