Multi-coloring on the path is a model for frequency assignment in linear cellular networks. Two models have been studied in previous papers: calls may either have finite or infinite duration. For hexagonal networks, a variation of the models where limited frequency reassignment is allowed has also been studied. We add the concept of frequency reassignment to the models of linear cellular networks and close these problems by giving matching upper and lower bounds in all cases. We prove that no randomized algorithm can have a better competitive ratio than the best deterministic algorithms. In addition, we give an exact characterization of the natural greedy algorithms for these problems. All of the above results are with regard to competitive analysis. Taking steps towards a more fine-grained analysis, we consider the case of finite calls and no frequency reassignment and prove that, even though randomization cannot bring the competitive ratio down to one, it seems that the greedy algorithm is expected optimal on uniform random request sequences. There has been an increasing focus on global warming, emission of green house gases (GHG), and the problems this might create. In this article, we review the trend in sustainable and renewable electricity generation in South America, where the generation portfolio increasingly depends on thermal generation, in particular gas. South America is a region that has relatively low emissions, but the current development is not desirable in environmental terms. We analyze the underlying reasons for this development, which is related to security of supply, deregulation, and the cost of renewable energy. We review and discuss the policies to promote renewables in the region. We analyze the potential advantages and drawbacks of different types of market interventions, such as direct subsidies that create potentially strong market distortions, more sophisticated market interventions that might be less intrusive but not necessarily as effective as, e.g. firm energy markets. We also review market-based solutions such as the Clean Market Mechanism and its potential, and the use of renewable electricity in non-interconnected zones, which might be one of the most economically attractive applications of renewables. However, without a stronger and more aggressive intervention from the governments in the region it is unlikely that the increase in thermal generation can be stopped. 相似文献

On-Line Analytical Processing (OLAP) enables analysts to gain insight about data through fast and interactive access to a variety of possible views on information, organized in a dimensional model. The demand for data integration is rapidly becoming larger as more and more information sources appear in modern enterprises. In the data warehousing approach, selected information is extracted in advance and stored in a repository, yielding good query performance. However, in many situations a logical (rather than physical) integration of data is preferable. Previous web-based data integration efforts have focused almost exclusively on the logical level of data models, creating a need for techniques focused on the conceptual level. Also, previous integration techniques for web-based data have not addressed the special needs of OLAP tools such as handling dimensions with hierarchies. Extensible Markup Language (XML) is fast becoming the new standard for data representation and exchange on the World Wide Web. The rapid emergence of XML data on the web, e.g., business-to-business (B2B) e-commerce, is making it necessary for OLAP and other data analysis tools to handle XML data as well as traditional data formats.Based on a real-world case study, this paper presents an approach to specification of OLAP DBs based on web data. Unlike previous work, this approach takes special OLAP issues such as dimension hierarchies and correct aggregation of data into account. Also, the approach works on the conceptual level, using Unified Modeling Language (UML) as a basis for so-called UML snowflake diagrams that precisely capture the multidimensional structure of the data. An integration architecture that allows the logical integration of XML and relational data sources for use by OLAP tools is also presented. 相似文献

Global spatial sampling with isotropic virtual planes: estimators of length density and total length in thick, arbitrarily orientated sections 总被引:3,自引:0,他引:3
Existing design-based direct length estimators require random rotation around at least one axis of the tissue specimen prior to sectioning to ensure isotropy of test probes. In some tissue it is, however, difficult or even impossible to define the region of interest, unless the tissue is sectioned in a specific, nonrandom orientation. Spatial uniform sampling with isotropic virtual planes circumvents the use of physically isotropic or vertical sections. The structure that is contained in a thick physical section is investigated with software-randomized isotropic virtual planes in volume probes in systematically sampled microscope fields using computer-assisted stereological analysis. A fixed volume of 3D space in each uniformly sampled field is probed with systematic random, isotropic virtual planes by a line that moves across the computer screen showing live video images of the microscope field when the test volume is scanned with a focal plane. The intersections between the linear structure and the virtual probes are counted with columns of two dimensional disectors.
Global spatial sampling with sets of isotropic uniform random virtual planes provides a basis for length density estimates from a set of parallel physical sections of any orientation preferred by the investigator, i.e. the simplest sampling scheme in stereology. Additional virtues include optimal conditions for reducing the estimator variance, the possibility to estimate total length directly using a fractionator design and the potential to estimate efficiently the distribution of directions from a set of parallel physical sections with arbitrary orientation.
Other implementations of the basic idea, systematic uniform sampling using probes that have total 3D × 4π freedom inside the section, and therefore independent of the position and the orientation of the physical section, are briefly discussed. 相似文献

Combustion of tyre char particles with diameters between 102 and 212 μm was performed in an experimental laboratory reactor, at temperatures between 750 and 850 °C, in an oxidative atmosphere with up to 10 vol.% O2 at 1 bar. The observed char combustion time varied from about 9 s at 750 °C to about 4 s at 850 °C. Under these conditions the experimental data indicated increasing mass transfer resistance with temperature. A diffusion reaction model was employed to study the effects of simultaneous mass transfer and kinetics in the experiments. An intrinsic reaction rate for tyre char combustion was estimated and comparison with literature data revealed good agreement. 相似文献

The predicted ORF3 polypeptide (Orf3p) of the linear genetic element pGKL2 from Kluyveromyces lactis was expressed in Bacillus megaterium as a fusion protein with a His(6X)-tag at the C-terminus for isolation by Ni-affinity chromatography. This is the first time that a yeast cytoplasmic gene product has been expressed heterologously as a functional protein in a bacterial system. The purified protein was found to display both RNA 5'-triphosphatase and guanylyltransferase activities. When the lysine residue present at position 177 of the protein within the sequence motif (KXDG), highly conserved in capping enzymes and other nucleotidyl transferases, was substituted by alanine, the guanylyltransferase activity was lost, thereby proving an important role for the transfer of GMP from GTP to the 5'-diphosphate end of the mRNA. Our in vitro data provides the first direct evidence that the polypeptide encoded by ORF3 of the cytoplasmic yeast plasmid pGKL2 functions as a plasmid-specific capping enzyme. Since genes equivalent to ORF3 of pGKL2 have been identified in all autonomous cytoplasmic yeast DNA elements investigated so far, our findings are of general significance for these widely distributed yeast extranuclear genetic elements. 相似文献
