Formation of composites fabricated by exothermic dispersion reaction in A1-TiO2-B2O3 system

The formation of aluminum matrix composites fabricated by exothermic dispersion reaction in A1-TiO2-B2O3 system was investigated. The thermal analysis results show that the reactions are spontaneous and exothermic. The Gibbs free energy of α-Al2O3 is the lowest among all the combustion products, followed by TiB2 and Al3Ti. It is noted that when the B2O3/TiO2 mole ratio is below 1, the reaction products are composed of particle-like α-Al2O3, TiB2 and rod-like Al3Ti. The α-Al2O3 crystallites, resulting from the reaction between A1 and TiO2 or B2O3, are segregated at the grain boundaries due to a lower wettability with the matrix. SEM micrographs show that rod-like Al3Ti phase distributes uniformly in the matrix. When the BEO3/TiO2 mole ratio is around 1, the Al3Ti phase almost disappears in the composites, and the distribution of α-Al2O3 particulates is improved evidently.

Study on Preparation and Electrical Properties of Ba1.03 Ce0.8 Euo.2 O3-a Solid Electrolyte

Ba1.03 Ceo.8Euo.2O3-a solid electrolyte with nonstoichiometric composition was prepared by high temperature sol-id-state reaction. Phase composition, surface and fracture morphologies of the specimen were characterized by using XRD and SEM, respectively. Ionic conduction was researched by gas concentration cell, the performance of hydrogen-air fuel cell was measured in the temperature range of 600-1000℃, and compared them with those of BaCeo.8Euo.203-a and Bao.98Ceo.8Euo.2O3-a. The results indicate that Bat.03Ceo.8Euo.2O3-a is a single-phase perovskite-type orthorhombic system. It is a pure proton conductor in the temperature range of 600-1000℃ in hydrogen atmosphere, and its proton con-duction is superior to that of BaCeo.8 Euo.203-a and Bao.98Ceo.8Euo.203-a, It is a mixed conductor of oxide ion and electron hole in oxygen atmosphere. At 1000℃, the performance of the fuel cell in whieh Ba1.03Ceo.sEuo.2O3-a as electrolyteis higher than that of BaCeo.8Euo,2O33-a or Bao.98Ceo.sEuo.203-a.
