Much new information on the synthesis, physicochemical properties, solid state structures, and reaction chemistry of actinide alkoxide complexes has begun to emerge in the last decade. We have developed several new starting materials that facilitate easy entry into thorium and uranium alkoxide chemistry. Synthetic pathways employed in our laboratories to obtain alkoxide and aryloxide complexes of the actinides include (1) metathesis of the iodide ligands in Ul3(THF)4 and Thl4(THF)4 with potassium salts of the desired ligand, or (2) protonolysis of metal-nitrogen or metal-carbon bonds by alcohols or phenols. The rich structural and reaction chemistry of these new complexes is described along with prospects for future developments in the field.  相似文献

Various techniques have been proposed to enable organisations to assess the current quality level of their data. Unfortunately, organisations have many different requirements related to data quality (DQ) assessment. For example, some organisations may need to focus on ensuring regulations are met rather than reducing costs. Due to this, organisations may be forced to follow an assessment technique, which may not wholly fit their needs and current situation. Therefore, we propose and evaluate the Hybrid Approach to assessing DQ, which demonstrates how to dynamically configure an assessment technique as needed while leveraging the best practices from existing assessment techniques.  相似文献

In this paper we present results of unsupervised cross-lingual speaker adaptation applied to text-to-speech synthesis. The application of our research is the personalisation of speech-to-speech translation in which we employ a HMM statistical framework for both speech recognition and synthesis. This framework provides a logical mechanism to adapt synthesised speech output to the voice of the user by way of speech recognition. In this work we present results of several different unsupervised and cross-lingual adaptation approaches as well as an end-to-end speaker adaptive speech-to-speech translation system. Our experiments show that we can successfully apply speaker adaptation in both unsupervised and cross-lingual scenarios and our proposed algorithms seem to generalise well for several language pairs. We also discuss important future directions including the need for better evaluation metrics.  相似文献

Performance analysis of a space-based backscatter lidar for structural measurements of ground vegetation has been undertaken with the purpose of developing a computer tool for the lidar-system simulation/trade-off studies. A realistically achievable system's signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) has been estimated. The developed mathematical model describing the end-to-end return pulse propagation takes into account signal- and noise-affecting factors such as laser-beam scattering on the target canopy, atmospheric scattering and the background solar radiation. Spatial full-waveform resolution requirements for retrieving canopy's architecture are evaluated based on canopy structural models. The analysis concept allows to parametrically trade-off system simulation variables such as orbit altitude, laser pulse width, beam footprints, divergence, apertures of transmitting and receiving optics.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

Gradients and matricial gradients for optimally increasing the stability margin and the admissible uncertainty of a dynamic system are the targets of this presented article. To design a dynamic system, the gradients are used in a dialog between a system scientist and gradient-based computer support. The stability margin is derived for output state controllers, including regular state controllers. The resonant frequency and the damping factors are investigated as a direct function of the maximum admissible uncertainty. The resulting gradients are extended to observer-assisted controllers, to minimum-order observers, and to dynamic-output state controllers.  相似文献

As businesses move to establish closer links with their customers and suppliers in the global marketplace, a new set of requirements is being placed on businesses in sub-Saharan Africa. The rules of commerce are being turned upside down, and for sub-Saharan African businesses to compete, local governments would have to create an enabling Internet and information infrastructure. This paper examines the Internet environment in sub-Saharan Africa and explores what the Internet can do for businesses. It investigates the public policy challenges and implications of the Internet and the emerging e-commerce for sub-Saharan Africa. The paper ends with a discussion and conclusion.  相似文献

The ocean surface velocity field in the Cape Blanc region, off Northwest Africa, is investigated with the maximum cross-correlation (MCC) method applied to channel-4 Advanced Very High Resolution Radiometer satellite images. An initial sensitivity analysis allows us to select the four parameters that provide maximum area coverage and the best velocity resolution, while limiting the standard deviation for each velocity component within reasonable values. These are (m, n, MV, CT)?=?(22, 32, 50, 0.6), where m and n are the number of pixels of the search window (SW) and reference window (RW), respectively, MV is the maximum possible velocity (in cm s?1), and CT is a correlation threshold for a feature to be tracked. A total of 489 images, for years 2005 and 2006, are analysed, and 106 velocity maps are generated with good coverage of the coastal transition zone (CTZ), most of them for the winter (34) and spring (59) seasons. We remove spurious data using the method's own filters (MV, CT, and a neighbour-vector comparison), requesting the velocity components to have Gaussian distributions and smoothing the resulting velocity fields with a median-vector filter. The instantaneous velocity maps illustrate the response of the alongshore coastal jet north of Cape Blanc (and its extension along the Cape Verde frontal region) to wind forcing, as well as the presence of numerous mesoscalar features (100–300 km wide) superposed on a westward offshore transport south of Cape Blanc. We also produce mean and standard deviation winter and spring velocity maps, which are compared with the corresponding mean sea surface temperature fields. The along-shore and offshore flow is better defined and is more intense in spring than in winter, in concordance with cross-slope sharper temperature gradients during this season, and brings about a cooling of the whole region. We identify five different ubiquitous currents: a southwestward jet north of Cape Blanc, a northwestward jet off Banc d'Argin, an offshore convergent jet, a spring jet-like feature at 18° N, and a southward flow in the southwestern CTZ.  相似文献

The study is concerned with electromagnetic wave (EM) scattering by a random sea surface in the presence of coherent wave patterns. The coherent patterns are understood in a broad sense as the existence of certain dynamical coupling between linear Fourier components of the water wave field. We show that the presence of weakly nonlinear wave patterns can significantly change the EM scattering compared to the case of a completely random wave field. Generalizing the Random Phase Approximation (RPA) we suggest a new paradigm for EM scattering by a random sea surface.

The specific analysis carried out in the paper synthesizes the small perturbation method for EM scattering and a weakly nonlinear approach for wind wave dynamics. By investigating, in detail, two examples of a random sea surface composed of either Stokes waves or horse-shoe (‘crescent-shaped’) patterns the mechanism of the pattern effect on scattering is revealed. Each Fourier harmonic of the scattered EM field is found to be a sum of contributions due to different combinations of wave field harmonics. Among these ‘partial scatterings’ there are phase-dependent ones and, therefore, the intensity of the resulting EM harmonic is sensitive to the phase relations between the wind wave harmonics. The effect can be interpreted as interference of partial scatterings due to the co-existence of several phase-related periodic scattering grids. A straightforward generalization of these results enables us to obtain, for a given wind wave field and an incident EM field, an a priori estimate of whether the effects due to the patterns are significant and the commonly used RPA is inapplicable. When the RPA is inapplicable, we suggest its natural generalization by re-defining the statistical ensemble for water surface. First, EM scattering by an ‘elementary’ constituent pattern should be considered. Each such scattering is affected by the interference because the harmonics comprising the pattern are dynamically linked. Then, ensemble averaging, which takes into account the distribution of the pattern parameters (based on the assumption that the phases between the patterns are random), should be carried out. It is shown that, generally, this interference does not vanish for any statistical ensemble due to dynamical coupling between water wave harmonics. The suggested RPA generalization takes into account weak non-Gaussianity of water wave field m contrast to the traditional RPA which ignores it.  相似文献

We present a novel mobile code management environment,currently under design and development. Our design employs anopen architecture, suitable for ``plug-and-play' with COTS andother groups' tools. While we have studied new algorithms, costand objective functions, and other fundamental issues, the maincontribution of this experimental research work is in the environmentitself. It should be noted that networked platforms, such asthe World Wide Web, are inherently not suitable for traditional,predictable real-time applications. Thus, real-time concernsnecessarily need to be blended with others concerns, and thetarget applications, making use of our environment, will toobe a blend of partially hard real-time and partially (or mostly)soft-real- time ones. The prototype environment will thereforesupport performance-based analysis and management focusing notonly on predictability but also on compilation, efficiency, safetyand other tradeoffs. We have selected the Java language and itsbytecode format as a representation for mobile code as well asa language for our implementation.  相似文献
