A 3D micromechanical formulation and a FE-model of fiber micro-buckling in materials with isotropic and transversal isotropic fibers in compression is presented. Three variants of geometrical modeling of the characteristic cell are proposed and compared. An appropriate one is then selected. An eigenvalue analysis of a characteristic cell is performed. This paper summarizes and discusses the limited statistically significant, currently available, experimental data for the tensile strength of individual nanotubes of any sort. Only three such data sets currently exist: two for multi-wall carbon nanotubes and one for multi-wall WS2 nanotubes. It is shown here that Weibull–Poisson statistics accurately fits all strength data sets and thus seems to apply at the nano-scale as well as it does at the micro- and macro-scales. The significance and trends of the Weibull shape and scale parameters, and their relation to the specific structural features of the different nanotubes, are discussed in each case. More recent fracture analyses are also discussed and, in that context, the role of defects in quasi-perfect structures in relation to the theoretical strength is examined. 相似文献

This study examined relations between children's conceptual understanding of mathematical equivalence and their procedures for solving equivalence problems (e.g., 3?+?4?+?5?=?3?+?9). Students in 4th and 5th grades completed assessments of their conceptual and procedural knowledge of equivalence, both before and after a brief lesson. The instruction focused either on the concept of equivalence or on a correct procedure for solving equivalence problems. Conceptual instruction led to increased conceptual understanding and to generation and transfer of a correct procedure. Procedural instruction led to increased conceptual understanding and to adoption, but only limited transfer, of the instructed procedure. These findings highlight the causal relations between conceptual and procedural knowledge and suggest that conceptual knowledge may have a greater influence on procedural knowledge than the reverse. This work tackles the problem of modeling nonlinear systems using Volterra models based on Kautz functions. The drawback of requiring a large number of parameters in the representation of these models can be circumvented by describing every kernel using an orthonormal basis of functions, such as the Kautz basis. The resulting model, so-called Wiener/Volterra model, can be truncated into a few terms if the Kautz functions are properly designed. The underlying problem is how to select the free-design complex poles that fully parameterize these functions. A solution to this problem has been provided in the literature for linear systems, which can be represented by first-order Volterra models. A generalization of such strategy focusing on Volterra models of any order is presented in this paper. This problem is solved by minimizing an upper bound for the error resulting from the truncation of the kernel expansion into a finite number of functions. The aim is to minimize the number of two-parameter Kautz functions associated with a given series truncation error, thus reducing the complexity of the resulting finite-dimensional representation. The main result is the derivation of an analytical solution for a sub-optimal expansion of the Volterra kernels using a set of Kautz functions. 相似文献

In this study, the application of glucose oxidase and protease commercial preparations was investigated in order to evaluate
their impact on the breadmaking performance of four different gluten-free flours (buckwheat, corn, sorghum and teff). Bread
formulas were developed without addition of hydrocolloids in order to avoid synergistic effects. Glucose oxidase improved
corn (CR) and sorghum (SG) bread quality by increasing specific volume (P < 0.05) and reducing collapsing at the top. The improvements could be related to protein polymerization which resulted in
enhanced continuity of the protein phase and elastic-like behavior of CR and SG batters. No significant effects were detected
on buckwheat (BW) and teff breads. On the other hand, protease treatment had detrimental effects on the textural quality of
BW and SG breads. The effects were related to protein degradation resulting in increased liquid-like behaviour of BW and SG
batters. Overall, the results of this study suggest that protein polymerisation can improve the breadmaking performance of
gluten-free flours by enhancing elastic-like behaviour of batters. However, the protein source is a key element determining
the impact of the enzymes. In the absence of hydrocolloids, protein structures are important to ensure the textural quality
