PURPOSE: To report quantitative changes in the anterior chamber configuration after small-incision cataract surgery with implantation of a posterior chamber intraocular lens by means of ultrasound biomicroscopy. METHODS: We examined the anterior chamber configuration of 20 eyes of 20 patients before and 3 months after small-incision cataract surgery (phacoemulsification and aspiration plus foldable intraocular lens implantation through a 3.0- to 4.0-mm self-sealing wound) by means of ultrasound biomicroscopy. The following variables were measured: the anterior chamber depth at the center of the cornea, the angle-opening distance 250 microns from the scleral spur (AOD250), the angle-opening distance 500 microns from the scleral spur (AOD500), and the trabecular-iris angle. RESULTS: The anterior chamber depth at the center of the cornea, AOD250, AOD500, and trabecular-iris angle increased significantly after surgery. The preoperative anterior chamber depth at the center of the cornea and trabecular-iris angle were negatively correlated with the differences between the postoperative and preoperative values (P < .01). The preoperative values of all variables examined were negatively correlated with the ratios of the postoperative value to the preoperative value (P < .002). CONCLUSIONS: The present results showed that small-incision cataract surgery significantly deepened the anterior chamber and widened its angle. The more shallow the preoperative anterior chamber was, the greater the postoperative change of the chamber was; and the more narrow the preoperative angle was, the greater the postoperative change of the angle was.  相似文献

Previous film autoradiographic studies demonstrated that, during corticogenesis, dopamine receptors of the D1 class are abundant in the embryonic primate cerebral wall. In the present study, we expand these findings by identifying the cellular elements of the fetal occipital cerebral wall expressing D1 and D5 subtypes of the D1 dopamine receptor class. We have examined tissue from monkey fetuses collected at 70, 90 and 120 days of gestation using antibodies directed against C-termini of the D1 and D5 dopamine receptors. At all three embryonic ages studied, we found D1 and D5 receptors expressed by multiple cell types of the embryonic cerebral wall. Both D1 and D5 receptor proteins are produced by pyramidal neurons of the cortical plate and by a variety of interstitial neurons of the subplate and intermediate zones. D1 and D5 receptors are also present in cells of the proliferative ventricular and subventricular zones, some of which were identified as dividing cells. In addition, D1 and D5 receptors are detectable in the protoplasmic astroglial and ependymal cells distinguishable in monkey fetuses collected at 120 days of gestation. Some cellular elements of the embryonic monkey cerebral wall express only one subtype of the D1 dopamine receptor class. For example, embryonic Cajal-Retzius neurons in the marginal zone and migrating neurons in the intermediate zone are immunoreactive only to D5 antisera. In contrast, radial glia can be labeled only with D1 receptor-specific antisera. Finally, only D1 receptors are detectable in the blood vessels penetrating the embryonic monkey cerebral wall. Based on these observations, we propose that dopamine receptors of the D1 class play an important role in regulating cerebral cortical formation and that D1 and D5 receptor subtypes may participate in regulation of different aspects of this process.  相似文献

In this paper we propose a multiobjective decision making based neural-network model and algorithm for image reconstruction from projections. This model combines the Hopfield's model and multiobjective decision making approach. We develop a weighted sum optimization based neural-network algorithm. The dynamical process of the net is based on minimization of a weighted sum energy function and Euler's iteration, and apply this algorithm to image reconstruction from computer-generated noisy projections and Siemens Somatson DR scanner data, respectively. Reconstructions based on this method is shown to be superior to conventional iterative reconstruction algorithms such as the multiplicate algebraic reconstruction technique (MART) and convolution from the point of view of accuracy of reconstruction. Computer simulation using the multiobjective method shows a significant improvement in image quality and convergence behavior over the conventional algorithms  相似文献

An increased production of reactive oxygen species is thought to be critical to the pathogenesis of Parkinson's disease. At autopsy, patients with either presymptomatic or symptomatic Parkinson's disease have a decreased level of glutathione in the substantia nigra pars compacta. This change represents the earliest index of oxidative stress in Parkinson's disease discovered to this point. This study compares the sensitivity of dopaminergic and nondopaminergic neurons in dissociated mesencephalic cultures to the depletion of glutathione. We have found that dopaminergic neurons are more resistant to the toxicity of glutathione depletion than nondopaminergic neurons. The possibility that dopaminergic neurons have a higher baseline glutathione level than nondopaminergic neurons is suggested by measurements of levels of cellular glutathione in a parallel system of immortalized embryonic dopaminergic and nondopaminergic cell lines. We also examined the role of glutathione in 1-methyl-4-phenylpyridinium toxicity. Decreasing the glutathione level of dopaminergic neurons potentiates their susceptibility to 1-methyl-4-phenylpyridinium toxicity, although 1-methyl-4-phenylpyridinium does not deplete glutathione from primary mesencephalic cultures. Our data suggest that although a decreased glutathione content is not likely to be the sole cause of dopaminergic neuronal loss in Parkinson's disease, decreased glutathione content may act in conjunction with other factors such as 1-methyl-4-phenylpyridinium to cause the selective death of dopaminergic neurons.  相似文献

In this paper, we propose a new definition of digital connectivity for gray images on a 2D space for arbitrary grid systems. We extend a digital version of the Jordan curve theorem and its converse proved earlier by Rosenfeld for the rectangular grid system. We also extend in two directions the concept of well-composed sets introduced by Lateckiet al.(1995,Comput. Vision Image Understanding61,70–83). First, we extend the definition of well-composed sets from the quadratic grid system to an arbitrary grid system. Then, by using the concept of parameter-dependent connected components introduced by us in a previous work, we allow the pixels in a connected component of a well-composed set to have different gray values so that the connectivity of connected components accommodates a wider meaning.  相似文献

We examined the molecular mechanism of metronidazole resistance by constructing a lambda-Zap II phagemid expression library with genomic DNA from a metronidazole-resistance strain of Helicobacter pylori. Twenty-two clones were found to have elevated MTZ resistances in XLOLR strain of E. coli. Phagemids belonging to the twenty two clones were extracted and then retransformed into the XLOLR strain of E. coli. After MTZ selection, five clones could confer metronidazole resistance consistently. According to Southern hybridization and DNA sequencing, the five clones contained a same locus, recA. In addition, transforming the five clones into BL21 strain of E. coli produced a higher resistance to MTZ. Interestingly, electroporation of one of the five phagemid clones into two MTZ sensitive H. pylori yielded MTZ resistant strains. Comparing amino acid sequence in MTZ resistant with sensitive isolates revealed two point mutations at this locus. Above results suggest that mutation in recA may be associated with metronidazole resistance of H. pylori.  相似文献
