Solvent free oxidation of alcohols catalyzed by KMnO4 adsorbed on Kieselguhr

Efficient and selective oxidation of primary and secondary alcohols to the corresponding aldehydes and ketones catalyzed by potassium permanganate supported on Kieselguhr reagent under solvent free conditions are reported.     

Effects of silicone oil and polymeric modifiers on the mechanical properties of highly filled LLDPE

The effects of coupling agents, silicone oil, and three types of polymeric modifiers on the mechanical properties of linear low density polyethylene (LLDPE) composites highly filled with aluminium hydroxide [Al(OH)₃] were studied. Polymeric modifiers that contain polar groups, such as silane‐grafted polyethylene (Si‐g‐PE) and acrylic‐acid‐grafted ethylene‐vinyl acetate copolymer (AA‐g‐EVA), improve the mechanical properties dramatically, while nonpolar modifiers improve them to some extent. When Al(OH)₃ was treated using a titanate coupling agent, the silicone oil increased the impact strength and elongation at break of the LLDPE/Al(OH)₃ composites. Introduction of a polymeric modifier containing polar groups destroys the beneficial effects of silicone oil on film mechanical properties, while the introduction of a nonpolar elastomeric polymeric modifier retains the high impact strength and elongation at break. A Sequential Design Approach for Switching ℌ∞ LPV Control

This paper proposes a sequential design scheme for switching ℌ_∞ LPV (Linear Parameter-Varying) control, aiming to reduce the computational complexity of the associated optimization problem. Different from the traditional approach that simultaneously designs switching LPV controllers and solves a high-dimensional optimization problem, the proposed sequential design approach renders a bundle of low-dimensional optimization problems to be solved iteratively. Individual ℌ_∞ LPV controller for each subregion is synthesized by independent PLMIs (Parametric Linear Matrix Inequalities) to guarantee ℌ_∞ performance, and controller variables are interpolated on the overlapped subregions such that the ℌ_∞ performance is also guaranteed on the overlapped subregion. Numerical examples are used to demonstrate the effectiveness of this method to reduce the computational load in each design iteration and improved ℌ_∞ performance over the conventional simultaneous design method with well-tuned interpolation coefficient.

Reaction mechanism and microstructure evolution of reaction sintered <Emphasis Type="Italic">h</Emphasis>-BN

Hexagonal boron nitride ceramic (h-BN) based on the nitridation of B powders was obtained by reaction sintering method. The effects of sintering temperature on the mechanical properties and microstructure of the resultant products were investigated and the reaction mechanism was discussed. Results showed that the reaction between B and N₂ occurred vigorously at temperatures ranging from 1 000 °C to 1 300 °C, which resulted in the generation of t-BN. When the temperature exceeded 1 450 °C, transformation from t-BN to h-BN began to occur. As the sintering temperature increased, the spherical particles of t-BN gradually transformed into fine sheet particles of h-BN. These particles subsequently displayed a compact arrangement to achieve a more uniform microstructure, thereby increasing the strength.
