The presence of chloride in reinforced concrete can cause severe damage to the strength and durability of buildings and bridges. The detection of chloride in concrete structures at early stages of the corrosion buildup process is, therefore, very important. However, detection of chlorine in trace amounts in concrete is not a simple matter. A dual-pulsed laser-induced breakdown spectrometer (LIBS) has been developed at our laboratory for the detection of chloride contents in reinforced concrete by using two atomic transition lines of neutral chlorine (Cl I) at 594.8 and 837.5 nm. A calibration curve was also established by using standard samples containing chloride in known concentration in the concrete. Our dual-pulsed LIBS system demonstrated a substantial improvement in the signal level at both wavelengths (594.8 and 837.5 nm). However, the new atomic transition line at 594.8 nm shows a significant improvement compared to the line at 837.5 nm in spite of the fact that the relative intensity of the former is 0.1% of the latter. This weak signal level of the 837.5 nm transition line of chlorine can be attributed to some kind of self-absorption process taking place in the case of the concrete sample.  相似文献

Data mining algorithms utilize search techniques to explore hidden patterns and correlations in the data, which otherwise require a tremendous amount of human time to explore. This feature issue explores the use of such techniques to help understand the data, build better simulators, explain outlier behavior, and build better predictive models. Nanostructured tin dioxide (SnO2) film was deposited on glass substrate by thermal evaporation of tin metal followed by thermal oxidation at 600 °C for 2 h. XRD investigation confirms that grown film is crystalline tetragonal rutile. The average optical transmittance of the film was as high as 90%. The optical band gap of the nanostructured SnO2 was estimated from transmittance data and found to be 3.4 eV. The variation of electrical conductivity with temperature was investigated. The root mean square (RMS) roughness and topography of the film were investigated by atomic force microscopy and found to be 2 nm with grain size of 17 nm.  相似文献

Indium (In) catalyzed silicon nanowires (SiNWs) were synthesized by using hot-wire chemical vapor deposition (HWCVD) technique. Indium droplets were deposited on Si substrates by hot-wire evaporation of In wire, which was immediately followed by the growth of SiNWs from the droplets. Three sets of samples were prepared by varying the length of In wires, l, as 3, 1 and 0.5 mm. The sizes of In catalyst droplets decreased from 271.4 ± 66.8 to 67.4 ± 16.6 nm when the l was reduced from 3 to 0.5 mm. Larger size of In droplets (271.4 ± 66.8 nm) was found to induce the growth of worm-like NWs. The decrease in size of In catalyst droplets induced the formation of aligned and tapered NWs with smaller tips. The smallest value of tapering parameter, Tp of 40.5 nm/μm is correlated to the SiNWs induced by the smallest size of In droplets (67.4 ± 16.6 nm). The as-grown SiNWs showed high purity and good crystalline structure.  相似文献

Lignin obtained from oil palm biomass empty fruit bunches (EFB) fibers, has been used as curing agent in green epoxy composites. Epoxy–lignin composites, with varying lignin content (15%, 20%, 25% and 30%), reinforced with EFB fiber were prepared. The effect of EFB-based lignin on the mechanical, thermal and morphology properties of the composites were investigated and compared with the composites cured with isophorone diamine curing agent. The improved thermal stability and the observed microstructure of the fractured surface of the composites were attributed to good fiber–matrix interaction, induced by the curing agent. The epoxy composites cured with 25% lignin content proved to be a better matrix and gave optimum value compared with other formulations which was confirmed by its mechanical, thermal and morphological properties.  相似文献

Tri layer hybrid composites of oil palm empty fruit bunches (EFB) and jute fibres was prepared by keeping oil palm EFB as skin material and jute as the core material and vice versa. The chemical resistance, void content and tensile properties of oil palm EFB/Jute composites was investigated with reference to the relative weight of oil palm EFB/Jute, i.e. 4:1, the fibre loading was optimized and different layering pattern were investigated. It is found from the chemical resistance test that all the composites are resistant to various chemicals. It was observed that marked reduction in void content of hybrid composites in different layering pattern. From the different layering pattern, the tensile properties were slightly higher for the composite having jute as skin and oil palm EFB as core material. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) was used to study tensile fracture surfaces of different composites.  相似文献

A cell chip with a nano-scaled thin film of cysteine modified synthetic oligopeptide C(RGD)4 was fabricated to detect dopamine secretion from neuronal cells. Thin C(RGD)4 peptide layer was fabricated on chip surface for increasing the binding affinity of cells to gold electrode surface, which is essential for the electrochemical detection of dopamine released from PC12 cells. The structural formation of the peptide thin film was confirmed by both atomic force microscopy (AFM) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Redox characteristics of chemical dopamine were firstly characterized by voltammetric tool to compare the dopamine released from PC12 cells. Cells grown on the chip were then subjected to cyclic voltammetric (CV) analysis after 48 hours of incubation. The intensities of reduction peaks were found to be increased with increasing the concentrations of PC12 cells. In addition, the electrochemical redox signal increased more in the cells treated with glucose and potassium compared to the control group. Hence, the developed cell chip can be used to determine the effects of drugs on living cells electrochemically.  相似文献

Using a well-established endonuclease-based chromatin dissection procedure in conjunction with both experimental comparative genome hybridisation (CGH) array profiling and in silico data mining, we show that mouse spermatozoa contain chromatin that is sensitive and resistant to digestion with micrococcal nuclease (MNase). Sequences represented in the micrococcal nuclease digestion solubilised (MNDS) but not the MND insoluble (MNDI) chromatin are strongly enriched in chromosomal regions of high gene density. Furthermore, by fluorescence in situ hybridisation (FISH) analysis, we show that MNDS and MNDI DNAs occupy distinct domains of decondensed mouse sperm nuclei that may also retain abundant histones. More detailed in silico analysis of CGH probe location in relation to known promoters and sequences recognised by CCCTC binding factor (CTCF) shows a significant excess of both in MNDS chromatin. A functional analysis of gene promoters reveals strong ontological signatures for ion transport on methylated promoters associated with CTCF binding sequences in MNDS chromatin. Sensory perception is the only strong ontological signature present in MNDI chromatin, driven by promoters that are not associated with CTCF regardless of their methylation status.  相似文献

Nickel ferrite nanocrystals were prepared from an aqueous solution containing metal nitrates and poly (vinyl pyrrolidone) (PVP) as a capping agent. To stabilize the particles, they were thermally treated at various temperatures from 623 to 823 K at which calcination occurred, thereby stabilizing the particles, controlling the growth of the nanoparticles, preventing their agglomeration, and creating a uniform distribution of particle sizes. The characterization studies were conducted by X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The crystallization was completed between 723 and 823 K, as revealed by the absence of organic absorption bands in the FT-IR spectra Magnetization measurements were obtained at room temperature by using a vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM), which showed that the calcined samples exhibited ferromagnetic behaviors. Finally, we used TEM images and FT-IR spectra to investigate the same process in the absence of PVP and with various of concentrations of PVP for comparison with the results acquired from using the optimum concentration that was used in this work.  相似文献

This article presents an artificial neural network (ANN)‐based approach for predicting photovoltaic (PV) module temperature using meteorological variables. The proposed approach utilizes actual hourly records of various meteorological parameters, such as ambient temperature Ta, solar irradiation G, relative humidity RH, and wind speed Ws as input variables. The hourly meteorological data were collected over 9 months in the year 2009 from a 92‐kWp installed PV system in Selangor, Malaysia. The data were divided into two sets: training data, which are a set of 1849 (April–October) hourly data, and 578 (November–December) hourly records of working as test data. Four ANN models have been developed by using different combination of meteorological parameters as inputs, and, for each model, the output is the PV module temperature Tm. It was found that the model using all parameters, including RH and Ws as inputs, gave the most accurate results with correlation coefficient (r) 95.9%, and 0.41, 0.1, and 4.5% for MBE, RMSE, and MPE, respectively. To show the superiority and applicability of the developed ANN model, results from the proposed ANN model have been compared with the conventional model adopted by Malaysia Energy Center and another mathematical model based on regression. With the model's simplicity, the proposed approach can be used as an effective tool for predicting the PV module temperature, for any type of PV systems, in remote or rural locations with no direct measurement equipments.
