Utilization of a porous medium for combustion of liquid fuels is proved to be a promising approach for future applications. The porous medium burner for liquid fuels is more advantageous than the conventional open spray flame burner for several reasons; these include enhanced evaporation of droplet spray owing to regenerative combustion characteristics, low emission of pollutants, high combustion intensity with moderate turn-down ratio and compactness. This article provides a comprehensive picture of the global scenario of research and developments in combustion of liquid fuels within a porous medium that enable a researcher to determine the direction of further investigation. Accordingly, a glossary of the important terminology, the modeling approach, advances in numerical and experimental works and applications are included. Novel dynamic semiempirical proton exchange membrane fuel cell model incorporating component voltages 下载免费PDF全文
This paper introduces a novel dynamic semiempirical model for the proton exchange membrane fuel cell (PEMFC). The proposed model not only considers the stack output voltage but also provides valid waveforms of component voltages, such as the no‐load, activation, ohmic, and concentration voltages of the PEMFC stack system. Experiments under no‐load, ramping load, and dynamic load conditions are performed to obtain various voltage components. According to experimental results, model parameters are optimised using the lightning search algorithm by providing valid theoretical ranges of parameters to the lightning search algorithm code. In addition, the correlation between the vapour and water pressures of the PEMFC is obtained to model the component voltages. Finally, all component voltages and the stack output voltage are validated by using the experimental/theoretical waveforms mentioned in previous research. The proposed model is also compared with a recently developed semiempirical model of PEMFC through particle swarm optimisation. The proposed dynamic model may be used in future in‐depth studies on PEMFC behaviour and in dynamic applications for health monitoring and fault diagnosis. 相似文献

This study investigates the load characteristics of heat pipe thermoelectric solar collector (HPTSC) in practice. Heat pipe thermoelectric solar collector converts the heat generated by the Sun directly into electrical energy and produces hot water as well. The maximum power in HPTSC is obtained when the internal resistance of the thermoelectric module is equal to the load resistance. It has been observed to be possible to produce both hot water and electricity by improving available solar collectors or producing new generation HPTSC. While it is possible to generate an electrical power of 160 W from a HPTSC of one square meter using the thermoelectric method, the power produced with an average photovoltaic panel with the same area is only 132 W. Accordingly, HPTSC is a superior alternative not only to available solar collectors, but also to available PV panels. HPTSC, involving three different technologies, is environmentally friendly and certainly a product that allows for more efficient use of solar energy. 相似文献

This paper defines a challenging problem of pattern matching between a pattern P and a text T, with wildcards and length constraints, and designs an efficient algorithm to return each pattern occurrence in an online manner. In this pattern matching problem, the user can specify the constraints on the number of wildcards between each two consecutive letters of P and the constraints on the length of each matching substring in T. We design a complete algorithm, SAIL that returns each matching substring of P in T as soon as it appears in T in an O(n+klmg) time with an O(lm) space overhead, where n is the length of T, k is the frequency of P's last letter occurring in T, l is the user-specified maximum length for each matching substring, m is the length of P, and g is the maximum difference between the user-specified maximum and minimum numbers of wildcards allowed between two consecutive letters in P.SAIL stands for string matching with wildcards and length constraints.
Gong Chen received the B.Eng. degree from the Beijing University of Technology, China, and the M.Sc. degree from the University of Vermont, USA, both in computer science. He is currently a graduate student in the Department of Statistics at the University of California, Los Angeles, USA. His research interests include data mining, statistical learning, machine learning, algorithm analysis and design, and database management.
Xindong Wu is a professor and the chair of the Department of Computer Science at the University of Vermont. He holds a Ph.D. in Artificial Intelligence from the University of Edinburgh, Britain. His research interests include data mining, knowledge-based systems, and Web information exploration. He has published extensively in these areas in various journals and conferences, including IEEE TKDE, TPAMI, ACM TOIS, IJCAI, AAAI, ICML, KDD, ICDM and WWW, as well as 12 books and conference proceedings. Dr. Wu is the Editor-in-Chief of the IEEE Transactions on Knowledge and Data Engineering (by the IEEE Computer Society), the founder and current Steering Committee Chair of the IEEE International Conference on Data Mining (ICDM),an Honorary Editor-in-Chief of Knowledge and Information Systems (by Springer), and a Series Editor of the Springer Book Series on Advanced Information and Knowledge Processing (AI&KP). He is the 2004 ACM SIGKDD Service Award winner.
Xingquan Zhu received his Ph.D degree in Computer Science from Fudan University, Shanghai, China, in 2001. He spent 4 months with Microsoft Research Asia, Beijing, China, where he was working on content-based image retrieval with relevance feedback. From 2001 to 2002, he was a postdoctoral associate in the Department of Computer Science at Purdue University, West Lafayette, IN. He is currently a research assistant professor in the Department of Computer Science, the University of Vermont, Burlington, VT. His research interests include data mining, machine learning, data quality, multimedia computing, and information retrieval. Since 2000, Dr. Zhu has published extensively, including over 50 refereed papers in various journals and conference proceedings.
Abdullah N. Arslan got his Ph.D. degree in Computer Science in 2002 from the University of California at Santa Barbara. Upon his graduation he joined the Department of Computer Science at the University of Vermont as an assistant professor. He has been with the computer science faculty there since then. Dr. Arslan's main research interests are on algorithms on strings, computational biology and bioinformatics. Dr. Arslan earned his Master's degree in Computer Science in 1996 from the University of North Texas, Denton, Texas and his Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering in 1990 from the Middle East Technical University, Ankara, Turkey. He worked as a programmer for the Central Bank of Turkey between 1991 and 1994.

This paper provides an overview of a project aimed at using knowledge-based technology to improve accessibility of the Web
for visually impaired users. The focus is on the multi-dimensional components of Web pages (tables and frames); our cognitive
studies demonstrate that spatial information is essential in comprehending tabular data, and this aspect has been largely
overlooked in the existing literature. Our approach addresses these issues by using explicit representations of the navigational semantics of the documents and using a domain-specific language to query the semantic representation and derive navigation strategies. Navigational knowledge is explicitly generated and
associated to the tabular and multi-dimensional HTML structures of documents. This semantic representation provides to the
blind user an abstract representation of the layout of the document; the user is then allowed to issue commands from the domain-specific
language to access and traverse the document according to its abstract layout.

Advances in personal computers (PCs) have increased interest in computer-based road-design systems to provide rapid evaluation
of alternative alignments. Optimization techniques can provide road managers with a powerful tool that searches for large
numbers of alternative alignments in short spans of time. A forest road optimization model, integrated with two optimization
techniques, was developed to help a forest road engineer in evaluating alternative alignments in a faster and more systematic
manner. The model aims at designing a path with minimum total road costs, while conforming to design specifications, environmental
requirements, and driver safety. To monitor the sediment production of the alternative alignments, the average sediment delivered
to a stream from a road section was estimated by using a road erosion/delivery model. The results indicated that this model
has the potential to initiate a new procedure that will improve the forest road-design process by employing the advanced hardware

High blood pressure, abnormal glucose tolerance, and obesity are frequently associated with each other, but the mechanism of these associations is poorly understood. Studying them in children may help in understanding the pathogenesis of hypertension. Blood pressure, height, weight, and plasma glucose and serum insulin concentrations during a 75-g oral glucose tolerance test were measured in 1,698 Pima Indian children aged 6-17 years who participated in an ongoing epidemiologic study. Weight relative to height was used as an index of obesity. The parents of many of the children were also examined. Fasting and 2-hour glucose and insulin concentrations, adjusted for age, sex, and relative weight, were positively related to systolic blood pressure but not to diastolic blood pressure. Relative weight, 2-hour glucose, and fasting insulin concentrations were independently and significantly associated with systolic blood pressure in a stepwise regression analysis that included age and sex. After parental hypertension was taken into account, maternal but not paternal non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus, controlled for the child's relative weight and glucose and insulin concentrations, was significantly associated with higher blood pressure in children. The stronger association with maternal diabetes suggests a greater sharing of environmental factors between mother and child than between father and child, but familial similarities in obesity and glucose and insulin concentrations, the diabetic intrauterine milieu, and shared environmental factors probably all contribute to this association. 相似文献

Patient 1: A 48-year-old man was admitted to Osaka Red Cross Hospital because of fever and dyspnea. Laboratory examination revealed pancytopenia, liver dysfunction and hematostatic abnormality. Chest radiographs obtained on admission revealed ground-glass opacity in both lung fields, and an analysis of arterial blood showed severe hypoxemia (PaO2:46.8 Torr). Pulse therapy with methylprednisolone was started. Although the hypoxemia subsided and radiographic findings rapidly improved, pancytopenia persisted. Examination of bone marrow aspirate revealed mature histiocytes with marked hemophagocytosis. Amplified Mycobacterium tuberculosis direct tests of bronchoalveolar lavage fluid, sputum, urine, and bone marrow were all positive, and Mycobacterium tuberculosis was cultured from sputum and urine. Although the patient was taking antituberculous agents, his pancytopenia persosted. Treatment with etoposide induced remssion. Patient 2: A 19-year-old woman was admitted to Osaka Red Cross Hospital because of prolonged cough and fever. Laboratory examination revealed leukocytosis, liver dysfunction, and hematostatic abnormality. Serologic tests provided conclusive evidence of Mycoplasma infection and a CRP test was strongly positive. Chest radiographs obtained on admission revealed infiltration shadows in the middle and lower lung fields on both sides, with left pleural effusion. An analysis of arterial blood showed hypoxemia (PaO2: 54.2 Torr). Examination of bone marrow and pleural effusion samples revealed mature histiocytes with marked hemophagocytosis. Although treatment with antibiotics and pulse therapy with methylprednisolone was started, the patients respiratory functions deteriorated. Endotracheal intubation was performed. Therapy with etoposide induced remission. Hemophagocytic syndrome associated with Mycoplasma infection and tuberculosis appears to be exceedingly rare. In these 2 cases, it was difficult to achieve remission with therapy for the underlying infections, but etoposide treatment was effective. 相似文献

Two Lactobacillus isolates, Lact. acidophilus I 26 and Lact. fermentum I 25, were selected, based on their poor aggregation with Escherichia coli and strong ability to adhere to ileal epithelial cells (IEC), to study in vitro interactions with E. coli O1:K1, O2:K1 and O78:K80 in an IEC radioactive-assay under the conditions of exclusion (lactobacilli and IEC, followed by the addition of E. coli), competition (lactobacilli, IEC and E. coli together) and displacement (E. coli and IEC, followed by the addition of lactobacilli). The results indicated that Lact. acidophilus I 26 and Lact. fermentum I 25 could not significantly reduce the attachment of E. coli O1:K1, O2:K1 and O78:K80 to IEC under the three conditions tested in vitro, except that the attachment of E. coli O1:K1 was slightly reduced by Lact. fermentum I 25 in the test for competition. 相似文献
