Neurological complications are common in patients with acute or chronic renal failure, especially when there is marked reduction in the glomerular filtration rate (GFR). One such clinical syndrome, uremic encephalopathy (UE), occurs due to widespread dysfunction of central nervous system (CNS). It manifests with myriad clinical features and usually is suggested by bedside elicitation of asterixis (flapping tremor). Symptomatic involvement of the basal ganglia manifesting as choreoathetosis and clinical and radiological resolution with hemodialysis has been reported in the medical literature, but only rarely. In the present study, impulse pressure assisted diffusion bonding of low carbon steel was carried out using silver interlayer. To study the influence of input process parameters namely bonding temperature (T), maximum pulse pressure (P), and number of pulses (N), experiments of diffusion bonding were conducted according to the Taguchi L9 orthogonal array. To reveal the typical bond interface characteristics, selected samples were examined by scanning electron microscopy (FESEM) equipped with energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS). The EDS analysis revealed a diffusion affected zone at the interface due to the diffusion of silver and iron across the interface. Lap joints were developed to measure the shear strength of the diffusion bonds. The optimum level of bonding temperature, maximum pulse pressure and number of pulses (875 °C, 10 MPa and 10 pulses) were identified. The ANOVA results indicated that bonding temperature had the highest statistical effect of 66.37% on shear strength followed by number of pulses and maximum pulse pressure. The fracture surface of the lap joints was also examined by FESEM and X-ray diffraction analysis. 相似文献

Garcinia kola, (a herb grown in Nigeria; calorific value 358.54 k.cal/100 g) inhibited in vitro lipid peroxidation of rat liver homogenate in a dose dependent manner. The inhibitory activity of G.kola was not affected by heating (100 degrees C/10 min). The antioxidant component of G.kola was soluble in aqueous and ethanolic media. The active component(s) in G. kola responsible for its inhibitory activity on lipid peroxidation is tentatively identified as isoflavones. 相似文献

The effect of feeding rats with whey protein or lipoid microemulsion of n-3 rich linseed oil (LSO), and n-6 rich sunflower oil (SNO) compared to native or microemulsion forms of each oil for 60 days on fatty acid composition, Ca2+Mg2+ ATPase, Ca2+ uptake and membrane fluidity of rat cardiac sarcoplasmic reticulum (SR) were assessed. Rats consuming LSO in lipoid microemulsion showed higher levels of ALA (18:3, n-3) conversion to DHA (22:6, n-3) when compared to rats given LSO in native form. Compared to all other dietary treatments, the alterations in the n-6/n-3 PUFA composition of SR of rats given LSO in lipoid microemulsion effected the greatest changes in Ca2+Mg2+ ATPase activity and Ca2+ uptake which effectively reduced Ca2+ transport. Therefore, the LSO in lipoid microemulsion confers similar heart healthy fatty acid compositional and calcium transport changes and potentially anti-arrhythmic effects similar to fish oils. 相似文献

Our previous study demonstrated that many commercial activated carbon (AC) particles may catalyze transformation of secondary amines to yield trace levels of N-nitrosamines under ambient aerobic conditions. Because of the widespread usage of AC materials in numerous analytical and environmental applications, it is imperative to understand the reaction mechanism responsible for formation of nitrosamine on the surface of ACs to minimize their occurrence in water treatment systems and during analytical methods employing ACs. The study results show that the AC-catalyzed nitrosamine formation requires both atmospheric oxygen and nitrogen. AC's surface reactive sites react with molecular oxygen to form reactive oxygen species (ROS), which facilitate fixation of molecular nitrogen on the carbon surfaces to generate reactive nitrogen species (RNS) likely nitrous oxide and hydroxylamine that can react with adsorbed amines to form nitrosamines. AC's properties play a crucial role as more nitrosamine formation is associated with carbon surfaces with higher surface area, more surface defects, reduced surface properties, higher O(2) uptake capacity, and higher carbonyl group content. This study is a first of its kind on the nitrosamine formation mechanism involving nitrogen fixation on AC surfaces, and the information will be useful for minimization of nitrosamines in AC-based processes. 相似文献

The structure inherent to the centrosymmetric matrices is exploited to obtain factorization results leading to significant computational savings in many engineering applications. Several interesting properties of the matrices are discussed with a view toward algorithm computational complexity. It is shown that the multiplicative complexity involved in the process of principal component (eigen-value/eigenvector) extraction, and in the evaluation of the determinant and inverse of such matrices, can be reduced by nearly 75% by employing the results presented here. The theory presented hereunifies andgeneralizes previous computationally efficient results onseveral specialized generalized centrosymmetric matrices; for example, the class of symmetric centrosymmetric (or doubly symmetric) matrices is shown to be a special case of the class of centrosymmetric matrices, and since the results obtained here are applicable over the field of complex numbers, the factorization results available for centrosymmetric matrices are readilyextended to the complex field. The centrosymmetric matrices play an important role in a number of areas such as pattern recognition, antenna theory, mechanical and electrical systems, and quantum physics. Specific examples of pattern recognition feature selection, a uniform linear antenna array, vibration in structures, and the quantummechanical oscillator are discussed to demonstrate that the theory developed here has a wide range of applications. In addition, certain specialized cases of the centrosymmetric matrices have, in the past, proved their indisputable usefulness in the areas of communication theory, digital filters, linear systems, linear prediction, and speech analysis.Research supported by NSERC Grant A0912. 相似文献

Numerical Investigation of Double Diffusive Mixed Convection Laminar Flow in Two Sided Lid Driven Porous Cavity 下载免费PDF全文
This paper presents the numerical study of mixed convection in a two‐sided lid driven porous cavity due to temperature and concentration gradients. The top and bottom walls are stationary and insulated. The left and right walls are moving at an equal velocity (Vo) in the same direction. The temperature and concentration are kept high at the right wall and low at the left wall. The governing equations are discretized using finite volume method. The pressure–velocity coupling is performed by the SIMPLE algorithm. A third order differed QUICK scheme is applied at the inner nodes and a second order central difference scheme is used at the boundary nodes. The flow behavior and heat transfer are analyzed for different nondimensional numbers, such as, 1 × 10?4 ≤ Ri ≤ 10, 1 × 10?4 ≤ Da ≤ 0.1 and 0.7 < Pr < 10. The present numerical results are compared with the literature and are in good agreement. For the above selected nondimensional numbers, the heat and fluid flow behavior is investigated using local and average Nusselt (Nu) and Sherwood (Sh) numbers. Results show that the convection flow is significant up to Da = 0.1, beyond that the effect of porosity is negligible. The effect of Prandtl number (Pr) on average Nu is found to increase significantly. 相似文献
