A novel method for the extraction of (−)epigallocatechin gallate of high purity from green tea leaves is proposed in this study. The method comprised a two-stage water-based extraction followed by successive use of microfiltration and ultrafiltration. Microfiltration was used as a pretreatment to ultrafiltration. The best process conditions of each unit operation were estimated by performing well-planned experimentations. The clarified liquor was dried to powder by freeze drying. Chemical analyses revealed that the tea powder contained about 90% of polyphenols. The purity of (−)epigallocatechin gallate was found to be about 80%, while its average yield was 1.22 g/l. The method outlined in this study may have remarkable importance for the bulk production of high-purity (−)epigallocatechin gallate with potential application in pharmaceutical, cosmetic, and food-processing industries. Besides being a green process, this method can be easily scaled up for the commercial production of (−)epigallocatechin gallate.  相似文献

In this paper, a framework of real-time video processing for fog removal using uncalibrated single camera system is proposed. Intelligent use of temporal redundancy present in video frames paves the way for real-time implementation. Any fog removal algorithm for images acquired with uncalibrated single camera system can be extended to video using the proposed framework. For the purpose of real-time implementation, several fog removal algorithms for images are investigated and few top ranking algorithms in speed and quality are chosen. Simulation results confirm that proposed framework reduces the computation per frame significantly. Proposed fog removal framework has a wide application in navigation, transportation, and other industries.  相似文献

Crosslinked guar gum‐g‐polyacrylate (cl‐GG‐g‐PA) superabsorbent hydrogels were prepared to explore their potential as soil conditioners and carriers. The hydrogels were prepared by in situ grafting polymerization and crosslinking of acrylamide onto a natural GG followed by hydrolysis. Microwave‐initiated synthesis under the chosen experimental conditions did not exhibit any significant improvement over the conventional technique. The optimization studies of various synthesis parameters, namely, monomer concentration, crosslinker concentration, initiator concentration, quantity of water per unit reaction mass, particle size of backbone, and concentration of alkali were performed. The hydrogels were characterized by wide‐angle X‐ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, and solid‐state 13C‐NMR spectroscopy. Swelling behavior of a candidate hydrogel [GG‐superabsorbent polymer (SAP)] in response to external stimuli, namely, salt solutions, fertilizer solutions, temperature, and pH, was studied. The GG‐SAP exhibited significant swelling in various environments. The effect of GG‐SAP on water absorption and the retention characteristics of sandy loam soil and soil‐less medium were also studied as a function of temperature and moisture tensions. The addition of GG‐SAP significantly improved the moisture characteristics of plant growth media (both soil and soil‐less), showing that it has tremendous potential for diverse applications in moisture stress agriculture. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations of the hydrodynamic behavior of rotating fluidized beds in static geometry (RFB-SG) are carried out for gas–solid flows. The rotating motion of the reactor bed is induced by the tangential injection of the gas along the circumference of the fluidization chamber. Steep gradients in the gas velocity fields both in radial and tangential direction generate turbulence. The radial and tangential drag forces fluidize the particle bed in both radial and tangential direction.An Eulerian two-fluid model is used. Gas phase turbulence is accounted for by a k–ε model adapted for rotational flows. The RFB-SG simulations provide guidelines for a design and operation with a high efficiency in gas–solid momentum transfer, excellent gas–solid separation and limited solids losses. Hydrodynamic variables like the centrifugal force, the injection pressure, the radial and tangential slip velocities, solids hold-up are calculated for both polymer particles (300 μm, 950 kg/m3, Geldart Group B) and glass beads (70 μm, 2500 kg/m3, Geldart Group A) to allow for a comparison among different fluidization chamber designs. Unstable bed behavior, like slugging and channeling, is also numerically predicted.  相似文献

Multiwalled-carbon-nanotube (MWCNT)-reinforced silicon nitride coatings were grown to evaluate the toughness contribution of nanotubes in a ceramic coating. An MWCNT array was first grown using catalytic chemical vapor deposition of acetylene on a silicon substrate. This aligned MWCNT preform was then infiltrated with an amorphous silicon nitride matrix by low-pressure chemical vapor deposition of dichlorosilane (DCS) and ammonia (NH3). The fracture toughness of this material was determined by generating cracks using nanoindentation and then employing finite-element analysis to estimate the bridging toughness contribution of the MWCNTs. The MWCNT bridging toughness of the composites is determined to be ~5.6 MPa m1/2, which is seven times higher than that of the matrix. The interfacial frictional stress is also estimated and ranges from 7 to 20 MPa.  相似文献

Under the influence of acoustic radiation force, particles can be trapped and deformed at the pressure node in a microfluidic channel. Based on this principle, the elastic modulus of biological cells can be estimated. In this study, a numerical framework, consisting of a boundary element model for acoustic field and an axisymmetric shell model, is developed to simulate the cell deformation under acoustic radiation force. The boundary element model is used to calculate the radiation traction exerted on the cell surface. The cell membrane deformation due to this traction is simulated by using the axisymmetric shell model. The Young’s moduli of algae and red blood cell membranes are then estimated by comparing the experimental observation with the simulated membrane deformation. It is found that the value of Young’s modulus of the red blood cell membrane is lower than that of algae cell membrane. Furthermore, for both cells, the estimated Young’s moduli are negligible compared to the bulk moduli of the cells reported in the previous studies.  相似文献

In the present work, first, the reference catalyst super acidic nanostructured sulfated zirconia (SZ) and super acidic nanostructured aluminum chloride impregnated sulfated zirconium oxides in mole ratios of Zr4+:Al3+ as 2:1 (ACSZ-1), 1:1 (ACSZ-2), and 1:2 (ACSZ-3) were synthesized by a simple precipitation method. The catalytic performance of these four catalysts were evaluated during the isomerization of n-hexane, n-heptane, and n-octane to their corresponding branched chain isomers at low temperature and pressure conditions. ACSZ-2 shows high activity toward isomerization of n-hexane, n-heptane, and n-octane into their corresponding branched chain isomers. The reference catalyst SZ was proved to be less effective compare to the other three synthesized ACSZ catalysts. Ammonia-temperature-programmed desorption of these two materials ensures that the super acidity of ACSZ-2 is higher than that of SZ. Atomic force microscopic and scanning electron microscopic pictures predict the nature of the surface of the catalysts. Transmission electron micrographic analysis indicates the presence of particle-bulks having average size 12–20?nm, presenting an amorphous nature and having no definite surface morphology of ACSZ-2. Fourier transform infrared provides an outline regarding different linkages and bond connectivities between atoms and groups in ACSZ-2 and SZ. After catalyst evaluation and characterization a probable reaction mechanism has been proposed theoretically. The reactivity and selectivity of ACSZ-2 and SZ as well as the order and activation energy of the isomerization reactions in presence of ACSZ-2 have been calculated. The use of ACSZ-2 is beneficial from the point of cost efficiency as well as its use is energy saving.  相似文献

This paper presents an integrated energy performance modeling approach that considers heat and mass transfer through building envelope, HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning) and refrigeration systems of a retail store building with limited measured data. The internal heat gains/losses were estimated based on an Extended Kalman Filter. The simulation coupling strategy among room top units (RTUs), refrigeration display cases and zones is based on the ping-pong coupling strategy. The integrated model was validated against measured data from June to August, 2011. The results show that temperature prediction is within the ±1.5°C error band and the RTU electricity energy use prediction is within the ±10% error band. The difference between measured and simulated annual electricity consumption from the refrigeration system is 3%. Based on further analysis and diagnostics, deviations of model predictions from measured data were found to be partially due to the faults in the RTUs. Such deviation accounts for a 4% saving of the total building electrical energy consumption.  相似文献

The study consisted of three objectives: (a) to test the relative prominence and conspicuousness of a warning required by US law to be conspicuous; (b) to explore whether or not the conspicuousness of the said warning can be enhanced graphically; and (c) to develop preliminary data for power analysis that would guide decisions related to sample size in future studies. Seventeen subjects viewed four over‐the‐counter drug packages (each with a different style of warning) along with five other products while wearing an eye tracking device. Four styles of warning were used on the over‐the‐counter drug packages: no outline and no fill, outline and no fill, no outline and fill, and outline and fill. The surface area and the placement of the warnings were held constant across all four designs and were consistent with those on commercially available products. Collected data were broken into five zones: warning, brand name, strength, product benefit and net weight. Despite the fact that US law requires it to be conspicuous, the tested warning was significantly less noticeable than the brand name (objective one) for all dependent variables analyzed (α = 0.05). No significant difference was indicated for the varied warning designs (objective two). This could be because not much can be done to enhance prominence when constrained to the limited space that is typically used for such warnings or because of the limited sample size. Power calculations suggest that a sample size of nearly 200 subjects would be required to detect a 2.5 s mean difference at 80% confidence (objective three).
