This paper presents novel opportunities for management of fly ash by synthesizing the material into cordierite ceramics and using it as a reinforcing phase for light metal alloys. Metal matrix composites (based on magnesium alloy and aluminum alloy) were produced by squeeze casting. The magnesium matrix composites with a suitably selected reinforcing phase content (2 wt.%) exhibited much better strength properties than the unmodified alloy (AM60). It was also demonstrated that the wettability (or the lack thereof) in the metal-ceramic system is critical to successful production of the composites based on the AK7 alloy with cordierite. Light alloy matrix composites reinforced with cordierite ceramics particles are innovative materials that combine high strength with low weight, which may be a key factor of merit for numerous applications of the composite in various branches of industries. 相似文献
Estimation of the cooling efficiency of an accelerated air for the needs of cooling of die forgings is presented. Temperature dependence of heat transfer coefficient (HTC) was calculated for different cooling conditions varied by airflow velocity, covering the range from 18 to 48?m/s. Time–temperature measurements performed on a full-scale semi-industrial cooling line provided similarity to conditions typical of industrial conveyor, which gives the results utilitarian significance in design of controlled processing (of steel forged products). Acquired HTC values, ranging from 164.7 to 298?W/m2?·?K, were validated in numerical simulation of cooling complex-shape forgings and subject to experimental verification, indicating perfect agreement with physical measurements. 相似文献
This work proposes an analytic method for resolving planar multi-point indeterminate impact problems for rigid-body systems. An event-based approach is used to detect impact events, and constraints consistent with the rigid-body assumption are used to resolve the indeterminacy associated with multi-point impact analysis. The work-energy relation is utilized to determine post-impact velocities based on an energetic coefficient of restitution to model energy dissipation, thereby yielding an energetically consistent set of post-impact velocities based on Stronge’s energetic coefficient of restitution for the treatment of rigid impacts. The effect of stick–slip transition is analyzed based on Coulomb friction. This paper also discusses the transition from impact to contact. This analysis is essential for considering the rocking block problem that is used as an example herein. The predictions of the model for the rocking block problem are compared to experimental results published in the literature. An example of a planar ball undergoing two-point impact is also presented. 相似文献
Romanian policy makers have to perceive that human intervention on river basins land cover is influencing rainfall-runoff relation and the used methodology cannot accurately estimate watershed surface flow transformations. Global water cycles and energy fluxes understanding is leading to better predictions of land atmosphere interaction and local hydro-climates evolution. The water transfer time determination from rainfall to runoff needs accurate measurements of river basins hydrological parameters. Here, we analyzed and compared the lag time value results of two different methodologies (curve number and rational methodology) used for 54 Romanian small catchment areas study. The focus of this paper is the lag time evaluation and interpretation for an effective implementation of the best methodology approach in the Romanian geographical space. Our research in small river basins was developed using remote sensing technology maps, GIS and environmental datasets in combination with field work on every drainage basin in order to assess the specific morphological features and validate the land cover typology. We found that Soil Conservation Service - Curve Number (SCS-CN) method is widely used according to USA landscape features classification, but not necessarily applicable to Romanian river basins characteristics. Our results show how the official Romanian rational methodology national standard (RNS) can be improved and the limits of SCS-CN method.
The effect of surface roughness on the polarization of the scattered field is studied by combining the standard Kirchhoff method for rough surface scattering with the radiative transfer method for volume scattering using the Rayleigh phase function. Corresponding cases of pure surface scattering from a homogeneous layer and volume scattering from a plane inhomogeneous layer are also computed to serve as points of reference. In each case the degree of polarization DP, polarization ratio PR, locations on the Poincaré sphere of copolarization nulls CN, and cross-polarization nulls XN are computed. It is found that for pure surface scattering PR between 0-20° incidence angles is quite sensitive to change in surface roughness. However, when both surface and volume scattering are present, CN by colatitude or DP between 0-15° incidence angles and CN or XN by longitude at large incidence angles (>60°) are better indicators of change in surface roughness. Since XN changes insignificantly in pure surface scattering, it appears that a significant change in it can serve as an indicator for the presence of volume scattering. Also, in pure surface or volume scattering, the variations of DP and CN by colatitude are monotone with the incidence angle, while in the combined surface and volume scattering DP has a minimum and CN by colatitude has a maximum. This character offers the possibility of separating combined surface and volume scattering from pure surface or volume scattering. 相似文献
Hexabromocyclododecanes (HBCDs) are brominated aliphatic cyclic hydrocarbons used as flame retardants in thermal insulation building materials, upholstery textiles, and electronics. As a result of their widespread use and their physical and chemical properties, HBCDs are now ubiquitous contaminants in the environment and humans. This review summarizes HBCD concentrations in several environmental compartments and analyzes these data in terms of point sources versus diffuse sources, biomagnification potential, stereoisomer profiles, time trends, and global distribution. Generally, higher concentrations were measured in samples (air, sediment, and fish) collected near point sources (plants producing or processing HBCDs), while lower concentrations were recorded in samples from locations with no obvious sources of HBCDs. High concentrations were measured in top predators, such as marine mammals and birds of prey (up to 9600 and 19 200 ng/g lipid weight, respectively), suggesting a biomagnification potential for HBCDs. Relatively low HBCD concentrations were reported in the few human studies conducted to date (median values varied between 0.35 and 1.1 ng/g lipid weight). HBCD levels in biota are increasing slowly and seem to reflect the local market demand. One important observation is the shiftfrom the high percentage of the gamma-HBCD stereoisomer in the technical products to a dominance of the alpha-HBCD stereoisomer in biological samples. A combination of factors such as variations in solubility, partitioning behavior, uptake, and, possibly, selective metabolism of individual isomers may explain the observed changes in stereoisomer patterns. Recommendations for further work include research on how HBCDs are transferred from products into the environment upon production, use, and disposal. Time trends need to be analyzed more in detail, including HBCD stereoisomers, and more data on terrestrial organisms are needed, especially for humans. Whenever possible, HBCDs should be analyzed as individual stereoisomers in order to address their fate and effects. 相似文献
Using semantic dementia (SD) as a reference point, the authors assessed semantic memory in four other neurodegenerative disorders: progressive nonfluent aphasia (PNFA), frontal variant frontotemporal dementia (fvFTD), Alzheimer's disease (AD), and posterior cortical atrophy (PCA). Individuals with SD were more impaired than other groups on semantic measures and showed a characteristic pattern across tasks: category fluency (CF) worse than letter fluency (LF), naming worse than comprehension, and visual and verbal comprehension equally affected, suggesting disruption to an amodal semantic system. Individuals with AD demonstrated a similar pattern to a milder degree. Although PNFA, fvFTD, and PCA groups had abnormal scores (relative to controls) on most semantic measures, their differing patterns across measures indicate that the apparent semantic impairment in these conditions is largely secondary to other factors.
