Results of a computer aided thermal analysis of microwave p-i-n diodes are presented in this paper. The nonlinear heat flow equations in one dimension are solved using the central finite difference method of Leibman's formulation taking into account the temperature dependence of thermal conductivity and specific heat. Results are presented showing the temperature profile inside the device as a function of microwave pulsewidth and power dissipation. The effect of a heat sink on the temperature rise is also shown. The main conclusion arrived at is that the nonlinear thermal properties lead to higher temperature rise in the device and larger thermal time constants than could be expected otherwise. The method used for calculation is applicable for other solid state devices like the TRAPATT, the fast recovery thyristor, and power transistors where similar orders of power levels are involved. 相似文献

A conceptual study of magnetic flux compression inside a cylindrical coil by an expanding inertial fusion plasma sphere across the magnetic field produced by the coil itself have been performed numerically using a two-dimensional magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) simulations. The concept may find application in inertial fusion energy (IFE) system as a direct energy conversion scheme to convert a part of fusion plasma kinetic energy into pulsed electrical energy. Important theoretical and technical issues that has to be addressed are discussed. Preliminary theoretical analysis are given for the analysis of MHD interchange instabilities of expanding plasma across magnetic field. Overall efficiency of the system is determined numerically for a typical set of initial plasma and system parameters. Ultrahigh coil inter-turn voltages are predicted. Therefore, the application of magnetic self-insulation to avoid coil inter-turn break-down is considered. Also, we have analysed the system performance with different load conditions. 相似文献

A brittle coating stress analysis technique applicable to orthotropic materials has been developed. The technique has been applied to a unidirectional glass fibre reinforced epoxy. Its behaviour has been studied under uniaxial and biaxial stress fields using cantilever beam specimens and circular disc specimens under diametral compression. Fibre orientation in the specimens has been varied. In each case it has been observed that the cracks represent the direction of principal strains in the specimen material and not the direction of principal stresses. Application of brittle coating techniques has been suggested to establish the direction and magnitude of principal stresses and strains at every point in a problem with unknown stresses and strains. 相似文献

This research addresses the implementation of lean philosophy in a forging company with a focus on radial forging production flow lines. Here, the prime motive is to evolve and test several strategies to eliminate waste on the shop floor. In this research, a systematic approach is suggested for the implementation of lean principles. This paper describes an application of value stream mapping (VSM). Consequently, the present and future states of value stream maps are constructed to improve the production process by identifying waste and its sources. Furthermore, Taguchi’s method of design of experiments is pursued here to minimize the forging defects produced due to imperfect operating conditions. A noticeable reduction in set-up time and work-in-process (WIP) inventory level is substantiated. Two processes, namely shrinkage and primary fragmentation are known to be the major causes of size reduction of wood during its devolatilization in a fluidized bed combustor. A simple phenomenological model incorporating these effects to compute the average char size at the end of devolatilization is proposed. Experiments are conducted in a bubbling fluidized bed combustor using wood having three different shapes namely, cylinder, cuboid and sphere, to measure the average char size at the end of devolatilization. The model prediction of average char size agrees with the measured values within a deviation of 15%. A two-dimensional model is developed for the determination of devolatilization time and char yield of cylindrical wood particles in a bubbling fluidized bed combustor. By using the concept of shape factor, the model is extended to particles of cuboid shape. The model prediction of the devolatilization time agrees with the measured data (present and those reported in the literature) for cylindrical and cuboidal shaped particles within ±20% while the char yield is predicted within ±17%. Influence of some important parameters namely, thermal diffusivity, external heat transfer coefficient and shrinkage, on the devolatilization time and char yield are studied. Thermal diffusivity shows noticeable influence on devolatilization time. The external heat transfer coefficient shows little influence beyond a value of 300 W/(m2 K). However particle shrinkage shows negligible effect on the devolatilization time but has a significant influence on the char yield. 相似文献

The milling by‐product of rice, rice husk, constitutes a major waste of the agricultural industry. It is mainly used as a fuel additive for various purposes, leaving behind residual ash which is rich in silica (Biogenic silica). In the present project, rice husk silica was impregnated with Fe3+, Sb3+, Bi3+ and Al3+ from both their aqueous and organic solutions.
