The results of this study present analytical data of the mercury levels in several fish and shellfish species to create awareness among individuals of the risks associated with consuming fish contaminated with mercury. Mercury concentrations varied from a mean of 0.02 mg/kg in Indian mackerel to 0.19 mg/kg in shark in both fresh and frozen fish, from 0.02 mg/kg in sardines to 0.18 mg/kg in skipjack tuna in canned fish, and from 0.02 mg/kg in Indian mackerel to 0.79 mg/kg in shark in dried fish. Shellfish contained a slightly higher amount of mercury than fresh or frozen fish with a mean of 0.09 mg/kg. Trophic position, followed by habitat, was the most important factors for variability in mercury concentrations in fish and shellfish. The maximum safe weekly intake (MSWI) values of mercury were significantly higher for herbivores than for carnivores. The MSWI value for total mercury in the case of consuming most (72%) fish species was more than 5 kg; however, the MSWI value was never more than 5 kg in most (66%) shellfish species. Risks were identified upon consumption of 120 g of dried shark when exceeding the provisional tolerable weekly intake threshold (1.6 μg/kg) for methylmercury. Therefore, fish‐eating populations should reduce the quantity of dried shark to efficiently diminish the exposure to mercury.  相似文献

Crystallization must occur in honey in order to produce set or creamed honey; however, the process must occur in a controlled manner in order to obtain an acceptable product. As a consequence, reliable methods are needed to measure the crystal content of honey (? expressed as kg crystal per kg honey), which can also be implemented with relative ease in industrial production facilities. Unfortunately, suitable methods do not currently exist. This article reports on the development of 2 independent offline methods to measure the crystal content in honey based on differential scanning calorimetry and high‐performance liquid chromatography. The 2 methods gave highly consistent results on the basis of paired t‐test involving 143 experimental points (P > 0.05, r2 = 0.99). The crystal content also correlated with the relative viscosity, defined as the ratio of the viscosity of crystal containing honey to that of the same honey when all crystals are dissolved, giving the following correlation: . This correlation can be used to estimate the crystal content of honey in industrial production facilities. The crystal growth rate at a temperature of 14 °C—the normal crystallization temperature used in practice—was linear, and the growth rate also increased with the total glucose content in the honey.  相似文献

The miscibility of poly(vinyl chloride)/poly(methylmethacrylate) (PVC/PMMA) system was improved by introducing some pyrrolidone units into the main chains of PMMA. For that purpose, we have synthesized two copolymers of poly(methylmethacrylate‐co‐vinylpyrrolidone) (MMVP) through a radical polymerization and carried out a comparative study of PVC/MMVP blends by inverse gas chromatography (IGC) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) methods. The adequacy of seven n‐alkane probes has been tested to determine the thermodynamic parameters. The miscibility of the two systems has been proved by a single Tg for each blend. This observation was also confirmed by DSC analysis. To highlight the presence of interaction and its intensity between PVC and MMVP in the blends, the polymer–polymer interaction parameters have been evaluated by IGC trough which the influence of the solute has been resolved. The Schneider approach confirmed the miscibility of these systems as the K deviates positively from unity. We have used weight loss measurements, potentiodynamic polarization, and lectrochemical impedance spectroscopy to study the inhibiting effect of N,N–di(polyoxyethylene)–4–dodecylaniline, with different numbers of oxyethylene units, on corrosion of steel in a 1 M hydrochloric acid solution. We have determined that the studied compounds are good corrosion inhibitors. The inhibition efficiency increases with an increase in inhibitor concentration, an increase in the number of oxyethylene units in the chain of the inhibitor, and a decrease in temperature. The inhibiting effect of the studied compounds is due to blocking of the metal surface as a result of adsorption of the oxyethylene units of the inhibitor. The adsorption process is described by the Freundlich isotherm. The indicated compounds act as mixed (mostly anodic) corrosion inhibitors. We calculate some thermodynamic corrosion parameters.  相似文献

Cerium incorporated KIT-6 mesoporous materials were synthesized through direct hydrothermal method and characterized by using X-ray diffraction (XRD), nitrogen sorption isotherm (BET), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), inductively coupled plasma -atomic emission spectroscopy (ICP-AES), diffuse reflectance ultraviolet visible spectroscopy (DRS-UV-Vis), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) methods. It appeared that stable cerium ions were inserted into the silica framework of KIT-6, thus generating acid properties in their host materials. The catalytic activity of Ce-KIT-6 materials was evaluated in the vapor phase dehydration of cyclohexanol to cyclohexene and dicyclohexyl ether at different temperatures with various Si/Ce molar ratios. Ce-KIT-6 (25) showed higher activity with 54% cyclohexanol conversion and 64% selectivity to cyclohexene. The catalytic results indicated that Ce-KIT-6 mesoporous materials could be used as versatile and stable acid catalysts.  相似文献

Traffic‐aware routing protocols have recently received considerable attention. This has been motivated by the role that it could play in extending the network's lifetime (or operational time) as it target the reservation of node's power and better utilisation of channel bandwidth, which could lead to performance improvement in terms of important performance metrics including throughput and end‐to‐end delay. Traffic‐aware techniques can be classified into two categories, namely end‐to‐end and on‐the‐spot, based on the way of establishing and maintaining routes between any source and destination. Although there has been much work on both categories, there has been no comparative performance study of the two approaches. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first work that carries out such a performance comparison. To this end, we have adapted our traffic‐aware technique namely load density to suggest a new ‘on‐the‐spot’ traffic‐aware technique. The main reason for doing this adaptation is to ensure that the comparison between the two approaches is fair and realistic.
