This work describes the preparation and characterization of composite materials obtained by the combination of natural rubber (NR) and carbon black (CB) in different percentages, aiming to improve their mechanical properties, processability, and electrical conductivity, aiming future applications as transducer in pressure sensors. The composites NR/CB were characterized through optical microscopy (OM), DC conductivity, thermal analysis using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), dynamic mechanical thermal analysis (DMA), thermogravimetry (TGA), and stress–strain test. The electrical conductivity varied between 10?9 and 10 S m?1, depending on the percentage of CB in the composite. Furthermore, a linear (and reversible) dependence of the conductivity on the applied pressure between 0 and 1.6 MPa was observed for the sample with containing 80 wt % of NR and 20% of CB. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The initiation of matrix microcracking was investigated in unidirectional glass matrix composites having controlled fiber spacing. Observations were taken from composites consisting of regular arrays of TiB2 -coated SIGMA 1240 and carbon-coated SCS-6 monofilament SiC fibers in a series of borosilicate glasses. The thermal expansion mismatch between the fibers and glass matrix was varied such that the resulting radial stresses after processing ranged from tensile to compressive. The glass strongly bonds to the TiB2 -coated SIGMA 1240 fiber but weakly bonds to the carbon coating of the SCS-6 fiber, allowing the investigation of the effects of bonding at the fiber/matrix interface. The observed crack initiation stresses of the various composites are compared to predictions based on a previously developed semiempirical model and used to study the influence of the volume fraction of fibers, residual stress state and interface strength. 相似文献

Infinite medium flux weighted cross-sections used in nodal calculations enable equivalence with the corresponding fine configuration if the following condition is satisfied: the flux shape inside the assembly in the core is close to the infinite medium flux shape (computed in lattice calculations). In presence of big flux gradients this condition is not satisfied and the absence of information about cross-sections distributions inside a node does not permit to predict the reaction rates with the same accuracy attained in ordinary situations. This tendency is amplified in case of high heterogeneous regions where tilting the flux causes big changes in reaction rates. The method presented here uses information coming from the lattice calculations that produced the homogenized cross-sections, in order to predict the right reaction rate even in presence of high tilted flux shapes. This is done in evaluating a variation of the cross-sections equivalent to the variation in reaction rate, but no variation is applied to the discontinuity factors. The accuracy of the method and its limitations are shown in several significant configurations. Its implementation in the Areva NP reactor core simulation system SCIENCE has shown better evaluation of control rod worth in comparisons with experimental results. 相似文献

Objectives of this study were to determine the prevalence of microalbuminuria and the level of glycaemic control obtained in a young Italian population-based cohort of subjects with short duration of insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (IDDM). Out of 298 subjects with onset of IDDM in the period 1984-88, 211 were examined (71%) in 1991-92 (duration of disease 3-9 years). Microalbuminuria was defined as albumin excretion rate (AER) 20-200 micrograms min-1 in an overnight urine collection or alb/creat > 2.5 mg mmol-1 in men and > 4.5 mg mmol-1 in women in one first morning urine sample. Twelve subjects had AER 20-200 micrograms min-1 and 4 had elevated alb/creat ratio. Prevalence of microalbuminuria was 7% (95% Cl 4.0-11.1) in subjects with duration of IDDM 3-9 years and 4% (0.3-7.7) in subjects with duration 3-5 years. Only 1 microalbuminuric subject was found out of 52 aged < or = 14 years. Duration of IDDM was significantly higher (6.9 +/- 1.9 years vs 5.7 +/- 1.6, p = 0.007) and HDL-cholesterol lower (1.22 +/- 0.21 mM vs 1.42 +/- 0.34, p = 0.025) in micro- than in normoalbuminuric subjects, even after adjustment for age, systolic and diastolic blood pressure, BMI, and HbA1c. In almost 50% of the cohort, HbA1c levels were over 9%, whereas only in 10.9% HbA1c levels were lower than 6.6% (mean +3 SD). In conclusion, this Italian population-based study showed low prevalence of microalbuminuria in young subjects with short duration of IDDM, even if the glycaemic control obtained was far from ideal. 相似文献

When an object is held and wielded, a time-invariant quantity of the wielding dynamics is the inertia tensor Iij. Examination of Iij as a function of different locations at which a cylindrical object is grasped revealed that the off-diagonal components of Iij, the products of inertia, related most systematically to grip position. In 3 experiments, Ss wielded an occluded rod held at an intermediate point along its length and reproduced, with the other hand, the felt grip position on a visible rod. In Exp 1, the wielded rods were homogeneous; in Exps 2 and 3, weights were added on either side of the grasp, with different manners of grasp contrasted in Exp 3. In all 3 experiments, perceived hand position was predicted by Iij. Discussion is focused on the role of Iij's eigenvalues in perceiving the magnitudes of objects and Iij's eigenvectors in perceiving hand–object relations (e.g., position of grasp).
