Virtual professional communities are supported by network information systems composed from standard Internet tools. To satisfy the interests of all community members, a user-driven approach to requirements engineering is proposed that produces not only meaningful but also acceptable specifications. This approach is especially suited for workflow systems that support partially structured, evolving work processes. To ensure the acceptability, social norms must guide the specification process. The RENISYS specification method is introduced, which facilitates this process using composition norms as formal representations of social norms. Conceptual graph theory is used to represent four categories of knowledge definitions: type definitions, state definitions, action norms and composition norms. It is shown how the composition norms guide the legitimate user-driven specification process by analysing a case on the development of an electronic law journal.  相似文献

Abstract— As digital display systems replace film traditionally used for reading radiographic images, resource‐intensive acceptance testing must be performed to ensure that quality meets and maintains desired specifications. If machine observers can replace human readers, whose performances are highly variable, the results will be more consistent and less costly. To be effective, however, the automated observers must track human performance. An approach for a model observer, validated with human readers, for the evaluation of the visibility of low‐contrast small targets in high‐resolution and mobile displays under different ambient illumination, will be described. The displays were tested using CDMAM‐like digital phantoms containing disks of varying diameters and contrasts on a flat background. For this task, we find the best indicator of display performance to be the display's ability to represent small luminance contrast, not resolution or pixel size. The results confirm that high‐resolution systems perform better under low illumination while illuminance has a minor impact on the mobile‐display performance. Finally, the results show that the machine observer tracks the performance of human readers. Machine observers with proper validation can replace humans in the acceptance testing procedures, saving the testers both time and money.  相似文献

Virtual professional communities require a strong co-evolution of their social and information systems. To ensure that the evolutionary process of their socio-technical systems is viable, a legitimate user-driven specification process is required. Such a process helps to ensure the meaningfulness and acceptability of specification changes. A specification method supporting this process should be grounded in the neo-humanist paradigm so that subjectivist and conflict aspects receive proper attention. Two related subfields of information science that have roots in this paradigm are the Language/Action Perspective (LAP) and organisational semiotics (OS). The RENISYS method for specification of the socio-technical systems of virtual professional communities is presented. It combines aspects from both LAP and OS, by building on work done in the DEMO (LAP) and MEASUR (OS) methodologies. It thus provides an operationalization of neo-humanist ideals that can help to extend theoretical and empirical research.  相似文献

MALDI‐TOF protein profiling analysis permits the detection of peptides and small proteins in complex protein mixtures with great accuracy. We applied this analysis to cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) from 15 patients affected by Creutzfeldt‐Jakob disease (CJD). We compared the levels of the normalized ion signals of 11 sporadic and 4 genetic CJD forms with those from ten healthy control subjects and eight non‐CJD relapsing‐remitting multiple sclerosis patients. In so doing, we detected 61 differentially expressed ion signals in CJD samples compared to controls. Among the 61 signals, 3 signals had significantly increased levels with high statistical significance (p <0.0001) and were located at 3238.3 m/z, 4963.7 m/z, and 8565.3 m/z. We characterized the 5.0 and 8.6 kDa proteins as thymosin β4 N‐acetylated and free ubiquitin, respectively, while the 3.2‐kDa peptide remained uncharacterized. Although elevated ubiquitin levels have previously been described in CJD, we have demonstrated for the first time the involvement of thymosin β4 in a neurodegenerative disease. To support the validity of thymosin β4 levels obtained by MALDI‐TOF analysis, an independent enzyme immunoassay analysis was performed. Moreover, a validation cohort consisting of CSF from three CJD patients, five healthy subjects, and six non‐CJD relapsing‐remitting multiple sclerosis patients was analyzed in a similar way, yielding superimposable results. We propose that thymosin β4 is a potential new candidate marker for the ante mortem diagnosis of CJD disease.  相似文献

Stereoscopic displays are becoming popular in entertainment and industrial applications. We characterize the spatial resolution and noise properties of a stereoscopic display with a half‐mirror and passive polarizing glasses. The upper display images reflected off the mirror have slightly degraded sharpness and reduced high spatial‐frequency noise resulting in modulation transfer functions (MTFs) of 0.59 and 0.50 at the Nyquist frequency with corresponding noise power spectra (NPS) values of 4.79 × 10?6 and 5.17 × 10?6 mm2 at 10 mm?1 in the horizontal and vertical directions. These results are compared to the characteristics of the individual displays with MTF values of 0.64 and 0.53 and NPS values of 6.24 × 10?6 and 5.87 × 10?6 mm2. The polarizing glasses cause minimal reduction in sharpness and high‐frequency noise. The MTFs in the upper images observed with glasses are decreased to 0.54 and 0.47, while the NPS are decreased to 2.86 × 10?6 and 2.01 × 10?6 mm2. When both displays are turned on and using the mirror and glasses, the observed luminance for each eye is increased from the luminance of the individual displays owing to crosstalk. We find that sharpness and noise are not affected by the interaction between the displays at the particular geometry tested in this study.  相似文献

Accurate detection of mediated haptic information in minimally invasive surgery (MIS) is critical for applying appropriate force magnitudes onto soft tissue with the aim of minimising tissue trauma. Force perception in MIS is a dynamic process, with surgeons’ administration of force into tissue revealing information about the remote surgical site which further informs the surgeons’ haptic interactions. The relationship between applied force and material deformation rate provides biomechanical information specifying the deformation distance remaining until a tissue will fail: which is termed distance-to-break (DTB). The current study demonstrates that observers can detect DTB while deforming simulated tissues and stop before reaching the tissues’ failure points. The design of training simulators, control devices and automated robotic systems for applications outside of MIS is discussed.

Practitioner Summary: In MIS, haptic information is critical for applying appropriate forces onto soft tissue to minimise tissue trauma. Observers used force information to detect how far they could deform a virtual tissue before it would break. Compounds of the system (AgI)x(Ag2B4O7)1?x can be thought of as a network made by an equal number of BO3 and BO4 groups containing silver iodide polyhedra. Partially crystalline compounds are obtained when the AgI molar fraction, x, is more than two times the Ag2B4O7 fraction. For the same iodine concentration, the ionic conductivities of the AgI : Ag2B4O7 glasses are comparable with those of other AgI : Ag-oxysalt glasses. However, their glass transition temperatures are substantially higher. With increasing silver iodine content, the physical properties which have been investigated approach smoothly the corresponding values expected for α-AgI. However, it is shown that Ag+ within the iodide polyhedra is not the unique current carrier and that a wide distribution of barrier heights exists in these glasses.  相似文献

We introduce the notion of periodic-like word. It is a word whose longest repeated prefix is not right special. Some different characterizations of this concept are given. In particular, we show that a word w is periodic-like if and only if it has a period not larger than , where is the least non-negative integer such that any prefix of w of length $\geq R'_{w}$ is not right special. We derive that if a word w has two periods , then also the greatest common divisor of p andq is a period ofw. This result is, in fact, an improvement of the theorem of Fine and Wilf. We also prove that the minimal period of a word w is equal to the sum of the minimal periods of its components in a suitable canonical decomposition in periodic-like subwords. Moreover, we characterize periodic-like words having the same set of proper boxes, in terms of the important notion of root-conjugacy. Shifts at the international gas market indicate that the transaction cost perspective provides better underpinnings for European gas regulation than the current neoclassical perspective. Three implications are that policymakers should: (1) allow alternative coordination measures to complement market exchange; (2) recognize that less than perfect competition outcomes may be optimal and (3) be more reticent in prescribing interventionist measures. Finally, the analysis provides the foundations for the empirical research required to complement this paper's theoretical approach.  相似文献
