Liquefied wood (LW) is a naturally based product which has the potential to be used as an adhesive. It can be used as a part of a polymer formulation, as a part of an adhesive mixture with commercial adhesives, or as an independent material for wood bonding. In this study, wood was liquefied at 180?°C using ethylene glycol as the solvent and sulphuric acid as a catalyst. In the first part of research, LW with different pH values was used for the bonding of solid wood at 200?°C for 15?min. In the second part, LW with an optimal pH value was used for bonding at different press temperatures for 15?min. In the third part, the minimum pressing time at the optimal pH value and at the optimal press temperature was determined. Unmodified LW with a negative pH value, a press temperature of 180?°C, and a pressing time of 12?min was determined to be optimal (based on highest shear strength) for the bonding of 5?mm thick wood lamellas with the LW used in this study. At these conditions bonds exhibited shear strength of around 7?N/mm2 which was too low to attain standard requirements. Despite this, high wood failure (100%) was observed as a consequence of low pH value and high press temperature which caused damage of the part of beech lamellas where LW was applied.  相似文献

The Netherlands is the most densely populated country of the European Union, which makes space very expensive. This leads to increasing complexity of the cities’ layout and other public spaces, together with a large number of people involved. Authorities would like to know whether new and innovative building designs ensure an appropriate level of safety of people in case of fire, before the accident happens, and to be prepared for the so-called “low probability–high consequences” accidents. Therefore, they need a tool to help them estimate the extent of a fire in a building, given any combination of possible conditions and any unexpected course of events during an emergency. This paper discusses the possibility of using Bayesian belief nets for this task. Using this approach, the people in charge can take decisions at different stages of the design process of a building regarding the location, the structure, the loading of the building, the types of fire protection systems inside the building, as well as the characteristics of the fire brigade that fights the possible fire. In the current study, usefulness of the approach is investigated using a small example. This will show the feasibility of the approach for the Netherlands situation and give authorities involved confidence that building a large comprehensive model would fulfil their needs for a support tool in the planning process. The effort to gather real data therefore was restricted as demonstration of fitness for purpose was the primary objective.  相似文献

Samples of chromium stainless steel were loaded to investigate fatigue crack growth in roots of steam turbine blades. Images of the material microstructure and fracture surfaces were subjected to textural image analysis. The main steps were normalization, enhancement of fiber structures and 2D Fourier transforms. By means of analysis of spectra in the space of periods, characteristic dimensions of both image sets were investigated. The locations of three peaks of spectral functions are very close in both image sets. It may be concluded that the material microstructure is projected onto the morphology of fracture surfaces much more than was expected.  相似文献

In the Netherlands, the individual risk and the societal risk are used in efforts to reduce the number of people exposed to the effects of an accident. In principle, the societal risk for each new land-use plan should be recalculated. Since this is proving increasingly cumbersome for planning agencies, several methods have been developed for SEVESO establishments and establishments for which in the Netherlands a generic zoning policy is used to determine the effects of new land-use plans on the societal risk. The methods give the uniform population density from a certain distance around the establishment at which the indicative limit for the societal risk is not exceeded. Correction factors are determined for non-uniform population distributions around the establishment, non-continuous residence times and deviating societal risk limits. Using these methods allows decision-making without the necessity of repeating quantified risk analyses for each alternative proposal.  相似文献

Materials with controllable multifunctional abilities for optical imaging (OI) and magnetic resonant imaging (MRI) that also can be used in photodynamic therapy are very interesting for future applications. Mesoporous TiO2 sub‐micrometer particles are doped with gadolinium to improve photoluminescence functionality and spin relaxation for MRI, with the added benefit of enhanced generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS). The Gd‐doped TiO2 exhibits red emission at 637 nm that is beneficial for OI and significantly improves MRI relaxation times, with a beneficial decrease in spin–lattice and spin–spin relaxation times. Density functional theory calculations show that Gd3+ ions introduce impurity energy levels inside the bandgap of anatase TiO2, and also create dipoles that are beneficial for charge separation and decreased electron–hole recombination in the doped lattice. The Gd‐doped TiO2 nanobeads (NBs) show enhanced ability for ROS monitored via ?OH radical photogeneration, in comparison with undoped TiO2 nanobeads and TiO2 P25, for Gd‐doping up to 10%. Cellular internalization and biocompatibility of TiO2@x Gd NBs are tested in vitro on MG‐63 human osteosarcoma cells, showing full biocompatibility. After photoactivation of the particles, anticancer trace by means of ROS photogeneration is observed just after 3 min irradiation.  相似文献

High-performance membrane chromatography (HPMC) proved to be a very efficient method for fast protein separations. Recently, it was shown to be applicable also for the isocratic chromatography of plasmid DNA conformations. However, no study about the separation of small molecules has been performed until now. In this work, we investigated the possibility of gradient and isocratic HPMC of small molecules with Convective Interaction Media disks of different chemistries and tried to explain the mechanism that enables their separation. We demonstrated that it is possible to achieve efficient separations of oligonucleotides and peptides in the ion-exchange mode as well as the separation of small hydrophobic molecules in the reversed-phase mode. It was shown that similar peak resolution can be provided in both gradient and isocratic modes.  相似文献

As part of an ongoing effort by the Ministry of Social Affairs and Employment of the Netherlands, a research project is being undertaken to construct a causal model for occupational risk. This model should provide quantitative insight into the causes and consequences of occupational accidents. One of the components of the model is a tool to systematically classify and analyse reports of past accidents. This tool ‘Storybuilder’ was described in earlier papers. In this paper, Storybuilder is used to analyse the causes of accidents reported in the database of the Dutch Labour Inspectorate involving people working in the construction industry. Conclusions are drawn on measures to reduce the accident probability. Some of these conclusions are contrary to common beliefs in the industry.  相似文献

Public authorities started to be really involved in risk management of hazardous materials some 30 years ago. Recent developments have led to fresh attention for this matter and many further developments are underway. The history of risk management and safety regulation is one of strongly variable interest, forgotten lessons and rude awakenings. The impetus exerted by accidents is short lived. Safety cases become documents to satisfy regulation rather than instruments to reduce risk. Deregulation, privatisation, and outsourcing pose new challenges to safety and risk management. Some of the unfortunate side effects have already become apparent. This invariably leads to the next disaster, which will have a striking resemblance to the previous one when abstracted from the immediate technological context. Lessons can be learned if we really want. The question remains: ‘Do we?’.  相似文献

Many writers, using both experimental tests and complex numerical models, have examined the effect of vehicle velocity on a highway bridge’s dynamic amplification. Although these tests and models give valuable quantitative information on dynamic amplification, they give little insight into how amplification is affected by individual vehicle/bridge parameters. This paper uses relatively simple numerical models to investigate the effect of vehicle velocity on a bridge’s dynamic amplification. A single vehicle crossing a simply supported bridge is modeled as a constant point force. A set of critical velocities are determined associated with peaks of dynamic amplification for all beams. The reasons for these large amplifications are discussed. A more complex finite element model, validated with field tests, is used to test the applicability of the conclusions obtained from the simple models to a realistic bridge/vehicle system.  相似文献
