Focused electron beam transport through a long narrow metal tube at elevated pressures in the forevacuum range

We present here our investigations of the features of focused electron beam transport in free space at elevated pressures of a few pascals.We have explored the effect of the beam accelerating voltage,operating gas pressure,and magnetic focusing upon the trajectory of beam electrons in the crossover region,in particular on the beam convergence and divergence angles.It is shown that for the forevacuum pressure range of 2-5 Pa explored,a distinctive feature of the propagation of a focused electron ...     

Cyclic degradation of material in vehicle components

A nonstandard approach to the fatigue strength of materials and structures is proposed, within the framework of the complete-diagram method. The use of the cyclic-degradation model in calculating the life of vehicle components is illustrated. In supercritical cycling, linear summation of the damage is possible in some situations.     

Effect of boundary conditions on the heat transfer law for a turbulent boundary layer

The heat transfer at an impermeable plate has been experimentally investigated under various boundary conditions. The conservativeness of the heat transfer law St₀=f(Re _T ^** ) is demonstrated for a monotonic increase of temperature and heat flux along the surface.     

Irreversibility of degradation of polymer solutions

The degradation of polymer solutions of different concentration was investigated. Monitoring the statistics of turbulence: Fried parameter estimation from the wavefront sensor measurements

Near-the-ground laser communication systems must operate in the presence of strong atmospheric turbulence. The effects of atmospheric turbulence on the laser beam that are relevant to optical communications are a broadening of the laser footprint, random jitter of the laser beam, and high spatial frequency intensity fluctuations referred to as scintillation. The overall goal of our program is to improve the performance and extend the range of optical communications systems by exploring the use of adaptive optics and channel coding. Knowledge of the turbulence conditions and the ability to describe its properties are the key aspects to make these improvements effective. The developed multiphase approach is directed to statistically describe atmospheric turbulence based on results derived from experimentally collected data. Statistics of Fried parameter r(0) is derived from 6 TB of data collected over 50 days, and under various day and night atmospheric conditions. Significant fluctuations of r(0) are found with the values ranging from 2 mm and up to 15 cm, corresponding to the significant structure function Cn2 fluctuations from 7.4×10(-14) to 8.1×10(-16).
