Gaze-control enables people to control a computer by using eye-gaze to select items on screen. Gaze-control is a necessity
for people who have lost all motor control of their body and only have control over eye movements. In addition, gaze-control
can be the quickest and least tiring option for a far broader group of people with varying disabilities. This paper reports
findings from gaze-control user trials involving users from both groups: people who are totally paralyzed, as well as people
with a wide range of complex disabilities. The trials conducted involved four different centres supporting people with disabilities
in three different European countries. Several gaze-control systems were trialled by a large number of users with varying
needs and abilities. The perceived benefits of gaze-control are described, and recommendations for successful assessment and

In this article, we describe a hybrid recommender system (RS) in the artistic and cultural heritage area, which takes into account the activities on social media performed by the target user and her friends, and takes advantage of linked open data (LOD) sources. Concretely, the proposed RS (1) extracts information from Facebook by analyzing content generated by users and their friends; (2) performs disambiguation tasks through LOD tools; (3) profiles the active user as a social graph; (4) provides her with personalized suggestions of artistic and cultural resources in the surroundings of the user’s current location. The last point is performed by integrating collaborative filtering algorithms with semantic technologies in order to leverage LOD sources such as DBpedia and Europeana. Based on the recommended points of cultural interest, the proposed system is also able to suggest to the active user itineraries among them, which meet her preferences and needs and are sensitive to her physical and social contexts as well. Experimental results on real users showed the effectiveness of the different modules of the proposed recommender.

The need for adapting Hospital Information Systems (HISs) to new applications (aimed at clinical data management) and to the ever growing population requires an evolution from both the representation and the usability points of view. The goal of this paper is to discuss the interdependencies of the advanced data representation models necessary to the new HISs and the interaction requirements. In particular, we present the technical taken in the MILORD (Multimedia Interaction with Large Object-oriented Radiological and clinical Databases) project to implement a departmental environment which integrates different kinds of clinical data in a user-friendly and homogeneous way. The implementation platform of the MILORD system is based on results obtained in the KIWIS project, which produced an advanced knowledge-base environment for large database systems. The interaction with a HIS is analyzed identifying the HIS-specific interaction tasks, the typical phases of the interaction with an information system, and the necessary interaction paradigms. In particular we describe the approach adopted in KIWIS for overcoming the problem of querying object-oriented databases and we discuss the new requirements that multimediality poses on the interaction paradigms. 相似文献
The paper deals with the global stabilization of both the attitude and the angular velocities of an underactuated rigid body. First a stability theorem is proven for a class of systems; subsequently, the equations describing the physics of the rigid body are presented, showing that the rigid body belongs to the considered class of systems, and a sufficient condition for the application of the theorem to the stability of the rigid body equilibrium is pointed out. In order to enable interoperability between ontology-based systems, ontology matching techniques have been proposed. However, when the generated mappings lead to undesired logical consequences, their usefulness may be diminished. In this paper, we present an approach to detect and minimize the violations of the so-called conservativity principle where novel subsumption entailments between named concepts in one of the input ontologies are considered as unwanted. The notion of environment is receiving an increasing attention in the development of multiagent applications. This is witnessed by the emergence of a number of infrastructures providing agent designers with useful means to develop the agent environment, and thus to structure an effective multiagent application. In this paper we analyse the role and features of such infrastructures, and survey some relevant examples. We endorse a general viewpoint where the environment of a multiagent system is seen as a set of basic bricks we call environment abstractions, which (i) provide agents with services useful for achieving individual and social goals, and (ii) are supported by some underlying software infrastructure managing their creation and exploitation. This article studies the exponential stabilization problem for discrete-time switched linear systems based on a control-Lyapunov function approach. It is proved that a switched linear system is exponentially stabilizable if and only if there exists a piecewise quadratic control-Lyapunov function. Such a converse control-Lyapunov function theorem justifies many of the earlier synthesis methods that have adopted piecewise quadratic Lyapunov functions for convenience or heuristic reasons. In addition, it is also proved that if a switched linear system is exponentially stabilizable, then it must be stabilizable by a stationary suboptimal policy of a related switched linear-quadratic regulator (LQR) problem. Motivated by some recent results of the switched LQR problem, an efficient algorithm is proposed, which is guaranteed to yield a control-Lyapunov function and a stabilizing policy whenever the system is exponentially stabilizable. 相似文献
