Acenaphthylene, fluoranthene and their congeners are compounds that, in view of their chemical and physical properties, belong among benzenoid hydrocarbons. However, because of the presence of a five-membered ring, in all chemical-graph-theoretical considerations of benzenoid systems, these species have been disregarded. Continuing our recent studies of the title compounds, we report here on a peculiar characteristic of the pattern of their cyclic conjugation, named “the phenyl-cyclopentadienyl rule” (PCP rule): if a benzene ring is connected with the (unique) five-membered ring by exactly one carbon-carbon bond (which we refer to as a PCP constellation), then the cyclic conjugation in the five-membered ring significantly increases. Recently a novel view on Kekulé valence structures (or resonance structures) was reported in which their standard geometrical representation was replaced by a numerical representation obtained by assigning π-electrons associated with CC double bonds to individual benzenoid rings. In the present article, we examine in more detail the partitioning of π-electrons to benzenoid rings for cata-condensed benzenoid hydrocarbons. For special families of cata-condensed benzenoids, we offer formulas which allow one to obtain the average π-electron ring content for individual benzenoid rings of polycyclic conjugated hydrocarbons. We also show that the average π-electron ring content for individual benzenoid rings can be calculated from Pauling bond orders without a need to examine all Kekulé resonance structures of a molecule. 相似文献

Horizontally aligned long carbon nanotubes were efficiently synthesized on Si substrates by using a radio-frequency catalytic chemical vapor deposition method. The morphological as well as the growth properties of these nanotubes were systematically investigated with various analytical techniques including microscopy and Raman spectroscopy. Different reaction parameters such as temperature, type of hydrocarbon gas and catalyst amount were varied and their effects on the nanotube size, quality and alignment are reported. High-aspect ratio and horizontally oriented nanotubes were found to grow following the “tip growth” mechanism. The fast and localized heating rate produced by the RF generator helps nanotubes to separate and lift the nano-particles away from the support and hence contributes to the growth of CNTs with a very high-aspect ratio. Carbon nanotubes synthesized with methane show a better horizontal alignment compared to those synthesized with acetylene, which might be due to the flow rate of the hydrocarbon gas. 相似文献

Summary A theoretical study is presented for the stability characteristics of the laminar free convection boundary layer flow along a vertical porous (permeable) flat plate subjected to a constant heat flux. The disturbance equations are solved numerically on the basis of the linear stability theory for a wide range of values of the modified Grashof number,G, and some values of the suction or injection parameterX when the Prandtl number, Pr, is 0.73 (air). These solutions indicate the important role of the parametersG andX on the flow and heat transfer characteristics. Numerical simulations are carried out to study the simultaneous effects of thermal and concentration diffusions on a mixed convection boundary layer flow over a permeable horizontal flat plate with suction/injection in a viscous incompressible fluid. The non-linear coupled partial differential equations governing the flow, thermal and concentration fields are first transformed into a set of non-linear coupled ordinary differential equations by a set of suitable similarity transformations. The resulting system of coupled non-linear differential equations is solved using shooting method by converting into initial value problem. In this method, system of equations is converted into a set of first order system which is solved by fourth order Runge–Kutta method. Flows with both assisting and opposing buoyancy forces are considered in the present investigation. The study reveals that dual solutions of velocity, temperature and concentration profiles exist for certain values of suction/injection and buoyancy parameters. Aneurysms and vascular malformations of the brain represent an important source of intracranial hemorrhage and subsequent mortality and morbidity. We are only beginning to discern the involvement of microglia, the resident immune cell of the central nervous system, in these pathologies and their outcomes. Recent evidence suggests that activated proinflammatory microglia are implicated in the expansion of brain injury following subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) in both the acute and chronic phases, being also a main actor in vasospasm, considerably the most severe complication of SAH. On the other hand, anti-inflammatory microglia may be involved in the resolution of cerebral injury and hemorrhage. These immune cells have also been observed in high numbers in brain arteriovenous malformations (bAVM) and cerebral cavernomas (CCM), although their roles in these lesions are currently incompletely ascertained. The following review aims to shed a light on the most significant findings related to microglia and their roles in intracranial aneurysms and vascular malformations, as well as possibly establish the course for future research. 相似文献

Microspatial arrangements of sulfate-reducing microorganisms (SRM) in surface microbial mats (~1.5 mm) forming open marine stromatolites were investigated. Previous research revealed three different mat types associated with these stromatolites, each with a unique petrographic signature. Here we focused on comparing “non-lithifying” (Type-1) and “lithifying” (Type-2) mats. Our results revealed three major trends: (1) Molecular typing using the dsrA probe revealed a shift in the SRM community composition between Type-1 and Type-2 mats. Fluorescence in-situ hybridization (FISH) coupled to confocal scanning-laser microscopy (CSLM)-based image analyses, and 35SO4
2−-silver foil patterns showed that SRM were present in surfaces of both mat types, but in significantly (p < 0.05) higher abundances in Type-2 mats. Over 85% of SRM cells in the top 0.5 mm of Type-2 mats were contained in a dense 130 μm thick horizontal layer comprised of clusters of varying sizes; (2) Microspatial mapping revealed that locations of SRM and CaCO3 precipitation were significantly correlated (p < 0.05); (3) Extracts from Type-2 mats contained acylhomoserine-lactones (C4-, C6-, oxo-C6 C7-, C8-, C10-, C12-, C14-AHLs) involved in cell-cell communication. Similar AHLs were produced by SRM mat-isolates. patients with one or two metastases had similar survival (4.6 and 5.1 months, respectively) (p = 0.4). Median overall survival (OS) for patients treated with WBRT and RB, and with WBRT alone was 5.9 and 3.7 months, respectively (p = 0.03). The 6-, 12- and 24-month OS rates after WBRT and RB were 48.5%, 25% and 10.6%, respectively, while WBRT alone resulted in OS rates of 34%, 22.4% and 3.2%, respectively (p = 0.03). After WBRT and RB, the 6-, 12- and 24-month local control rates were 92%, 82% and 67%, respectively, while they were 81.2%, 75% and 37.5%, respectively, after WBRT alone (p = 0.03). The 6-, 12- and 24-month brain control rates after WBRT and RB were 88.7%, 75.8% and 62%, respectively, and after WBRT alone they were 78.5%, 59% and 37.7%, respectively (p = 0.03).Conclusion

Due to their low cost and easy deployment, small cells provide a viable and cost-effective way of improving the cellular coverage and capacity both for homes and enterprises, both in metropolitan and rural areas. Stimulated by their attractive features and advantages, the ongoing development and deployment of small cells by manufacturers and mobile network operators have seen a surge in recent years. Together with macro-cells, they form, what are called Heterogeneous Networks or HetNets. However, the successful rollout and operation of small cells are still facing significan issues. In this paper the need for, challenges and solutions of small cell deployments are analyzed. This analysis is conducted with respect to self-organizing features, interference coordination, energy efficiency and spectrum efficiency. The analysis is complemented with numerical results based on system simulations in Macro-only and HetNet scenarios and also on real measurements performed on an mobile operator network. Results show the clear improvement that a HetNet brings in term of user throughput and also the amunt of spectrum waste that is present in nowadays’ operator networks. 相似文献
