The design of a hot air solar generator for different uses has been simulated while investigating the flow induced by a hot disc placed at the entrance of the open ended vertical cylinder. Ambient air (Pr = 0.7) enters the bottom of the cylinder with constant velocity and temperature, and flows up through the cylinder as a result of natural convection. The cylindrical wall is heated by thermal radiation emitted by the disc. The pressure drop due to acceleration of the flow to the cylinder-inlet causes the appearance of thermosyphon effect around the thermal plume. At the top part of the cylinder, the flow exploration shows the full development of the turbulence and the uniformity of thermal and hydrodynamic fields. The study of the thermal spectral density indicates that the turbulent structures seem to be sufficiently small not to be sensitive to viscosity, but large enough to be sensitive to Archimedes effects.  相似文献

Both glucagon and glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) play an important role in the regulation of nutrient homeostasis. In this study, the tissue distributions of the expression of receptor genes for glucagon and GLP-1 were examined. Expression of glucagon receptor gene was detected in liver, kidney, ileum and pancreatic islets but not in brain. In contrast, expression of GLP-1 receptor gene was detected in brain, pancreas and pancreatic islets but not in liver, kidney, or ileum. To investigate the existence and characteristics of glucagon and GLP-1 receptors on pancreatic beta cells, expression of the receptor genes and translational regulation of the expression of the receptor genes by glucose were analyzed in a mouse pancreatic beta cell line, MIN6 cells. In the cDNA pool of MIN6 cells, both glucagon and GLP-1 receptor genes were identified and showed higher expression level in MIN6 cells cultured under high glucose condition than in those cultured under low glucose condition. These results suggest that glucagon and GLP-1 receptor genes are expressed in pancreatic beta cells and their expression is upregulated by glucose.  相似文献

OBJECTIVES: To determine whether blurred vision caused by exposure to triethylamine (TEA) can be detected by the measurement of contrast sensitivity. METHODS: 41 cold box core makers of three foundries and 82 control workers were examined. A detailed ocular and medical history was obtained from the subjects. The contrast sensitivity of the core makers was measured on Monday and Friday of the same week both before and immediately after work and also on a third day, when air samples of TEA were collected. Contrast sensitivity and visual acuity were measured by optotype figures at full contrast, 2.5% contrast, and 0.6% contrast. The changes in contrast sensitivity were used for the analysis. The results of binocular vision and the results of the dominant eye were analysed. Urine specimens for the analysis of TEA were collected on every occasion when contrast sensitivity was measured. RESULTS: 78% of the core makers had had symptoms of blurred vision, and 31% had had trouble driving or working. The breathing zone eight hour time weighted average TEA concentrations were 0.3-60 mg/m3. The mean urinary TEA concentration after the shift was 35 mmol/mol creatinine. Continuous monitoring showed high peaks of TEA leakage at a core making machine. Changes in binocular visual acuity did not differ between the exposed and unexposed workers. The contrast sensitivity decreased in 49% of the core makers and 21% of the controls (P = 0.002). CONCLUSIONS: The blurred vision caused by exposure to TEA can be documented by measuring contrast sensitivity. The mechanism by which TEA produces symptoms remains an issue of further study.  相似文献

True presbyopia correction still remains one of the main challenges amongst eye professionals. Many corrective techniques exist including bifocal spectacle correction, monovision techniques both with corrective lenses and surgery, multifocal corneal excimer laser and refractive lens exchange with either accommodating or multifocal lenses. Refractive lens exchange was first described more than 10 years ago and has become more accepted in recent years with advancements in lens technology and improvements in surgical techniques. This article reviews developments in this field and current available lens options in the treatment of presbyopia.  相似文献

Boza is a fermented beverage made from millet, maize, wheat or rice. Biogenic amine contents of 10 boza samples from different manufacturers in Turkey were analysed for the first time, using HPLC after derivatisation with benzoyl chloride. Of the 11 biogenic amines under study, putrescine, spermidine and tyramine were detected in all boza samples. Tyramine was the prevailing biogenic amine. Tyramine concentrations of boza samples were between 13 and 65 mg/kg. Total biogenic amine contents of boza samples were between 25 and 69 mg/kg. Consequently, consumption of boza might represent a health risk for patients being treated with drugs containing monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI). The pH values of boza samples were in the range from 3.16 to 4.02; total dry matters were from 15.3% to 31.1% (w/w); protein contents were from 0.50% to 0.99% (w/w). No significant correlations were detected between biogenic amine concentrations and pH, protein content and total dry matter content.  相似文献

Amphiphilic block copolymers are macromolecular compounds of great importance from both fundamental scientific and many technological point of views for a large variety of applications. Amphiphilic diblock copolymer containing segments of monomethoxypoly(ethylene glycol) and polystyrene (MPEG-b-PS) was synthesised by a convenient method for preparation of macroinitiator MPEG-TEMPO for ‘living’ free radical polymerization (NMRP technique). Initially, derivative of MPEG with chlorine function has been prepared in an one-step reaction with thionyl chloride. 1-hydroxy-2,2,6,6-tetramethyl-piperidine (TEMPO-OH) obtained by reduction of 2,2,6,6-tetramethyl-piperidinyl-1-oxy (TEMPO) with sodium ascorbate was coupled with chlorinated MPEG to yield the macroinitiator MPEG terminated with a TEMPO unit (MPEG-TEMPO), which was further used to prepare the diblock copolymer MPEG-b-PS of styrene. The product was purified and identified by 1H NMR, GPC and, FT-IR.  相似文献

The present work is aimed at studying the effect of solidification rate on reinforcement clustering in particle reinforced metal matrix composites (PMMCs) through numerical simulations and experimental studies. A macrotransport-solidification kinetics (MTSK) model was used to simulate the solidification kinetics of the PMMCs. The experimental validation of the numerical model was achieved through the Newtonian and Fourier thermal analysis methods. Results reveal that the MTSK model can be successfully used to predict the local microstructural scales and to evaluate the risk of cluster formation in cast particle reinforced composites.  相似文献

BACKGROUND: A large number of bacterial, fungal and microalgal species are able to bio‐transform steroid compounds. Among them, fungi from the Mucor genus have been shown to mediate hydroxylation, oxidation, and desaturation by the double bond formation and epoxidation of various steroid substances. Mucor racemocus has not been studied for its ability to modify androst‐1,4‐dien‐3,17‐dione, a pharmaceutically important steroid precursor. RESULTS: The filamentous fungus M. racemosus was applied for bioconversion of androst‐1,4‐dien‐3,17‐dione (ADD, I ) in a 5‐day fermentation. Microbial metabolites were purified chromatographically and identified on the basis of their spectral data as 17β‐hydroxyandrost‐1,4‐dien‐3‐one ( II ), 14α‐hydroxyandrost‐1,4‐dien‐3,17‐dione ( III ), 15α‐hydroxyandrost‐1,4‐dien‐3,17‐dione ( IV ), 15α,17β‐dihydroxyandrost‐1,4‐dien‐3‐one ( V ), 14α,17β‐dihydroxyandrost‐1,4‐dien‐3‐one ( VI ), and 6β,17β‐dihydroxyandrost‐1,4‐dien‐3‐one ( VII ). CONCLUSION: Observed modifications included hydroxylation at C‐6β, C‐14α, C‐15α positions and 17‐carbonyl reduction. The best fermentation conditions for production of hydroxysteroid‐1,4‐dien‐3‐one derivatives were found to be 25 °C at 150 rpm for 5 days with a substrate concentration of 0.5 g L?1.
