Despite signing a bilateral water treaty in 1973, water utilization in the Hirmand River Basin (HRB) has been a source of dispute between Iran and Afghanistan for many decades. While Iran accuses Afghanistan of depriving it of the Hirmand water due to dam construction in the upper basin, Afghanistan assures that it enforces the treaty. An evident reduction of the Hirmand River flow to Iran in recent years is fully attributed by Afghanistan to a reduction in precipitation in the basin. Although Iran disagrees and remains unconvinced by this line of reasoning. A fundamental lack of trust in collected and shared hydrological data has hindered dialog between the two neighbors. To address this issue, this study investigates the use of remote sensing information, as an independent source of data, for fact-finding in a highly disputed transboundary river basin. For this purpose, historical data (34 years) from two satellite precipitation products, PERSIANN-CDR and CHIRPS, were used to understand if precipitation characteristics and, subsequently, rainfall-runoff regimes have changed in the HRB. Results reveal that the frequency and amount of heavy precipitation have been increasing over the mountainous areas. The total amount of precipitation has been increasing significantly. The intensity of heavy precipitation, however, has been decreasing over the basin. In the upper basin, the duration of the wet period has increased, although the share of wet months in annual precipitation has been decreasing. In the lower basin, trends in seasonal and annual precipitation and most of the indices are insignificant, indicating water availability issues cannot be attributed to the changes in precipitation in the downstream area itself. These results can be used as an integral part of mutual fact-finding and trust-building exercise that supports water diplomacy to promote environmental cooperation between Iran and Afghanistan.

Photodynamic therapy (PDT) is an effective treatment method for various types of invasive tumors. The efficiency of PDT treatment depends, to a great extent, on optimal dosimetry of light, the photosensitizer used, and on tissue oxygenation. Fluorescence spectroscopy can be employed for measurement of drug concentration in target tissue and can provide a basis for in vivo evaluation of treatment efficiency. We have developed an integrated system that can be used to determine photosensitizer concentration in vivo based on fluorescence measurements. In our study, we performed fluorescence measurements on colon tumors of Balb/c mice in which CT26 cells were injected subcutaneously in the right flank. 5-Aminolevulinic acid (ALA)-induced protoporphyrin IX (PpIX) was used as the photosensitizer. ALA was administered intraperitoneally at a dose of 200 mg/kg and PpIX fluorescence profiles were followed up to 34 h after ALA administration. Maximum fluorescence intensity was found 8 h after ALA administration. Also, we determined the relationship between PpIX concentration in colon tumor tissue of Balb/c mice and its fluorescence intensity at the peak of the spectrum (635 nm). This was used to determine the PpIX content in the target tissue as a function of time after ALA administration.  相似文献

Insulin resistance (IR) and inflammatory mediators are correlated with hepatic fibrosis. Quercetin is a bioflavonoid with well‐known antidiabetic and antifibrotic properties. Bile duct ligation (BDL) is a surgical model performed on animals to produce a murine model in which increased oxidative stress occurs, which results in liver fibrosis. Our study aimed to determine whether quercetin improves hepatic IR as well as hepatic fibrosis in rats experiencing BDL. Male Wistar rats were allocated to four groups according to a random pattern, including a sham group, a sham and quercetin group (30 mg/kg/day), a BDL alone group, and a BDL and quercetin group (30 mg/kg/day). Evaluation of STAT3, SOCS3, IRS1, Rac1, Rac1‐GTP, Sp1, NOX1, HIF‐1α, and ERK1 expression was performed by RT‐PCR along with the western blot analytical technique in liver tissue. The antidiabetic impact of quercetin was associated with reduction in mRNA and expression of protein in STAT3 and SOCS3, along with an increase in IRS1. The antifibrotic effect of quercetin was also determined by downregulation of mRNA or the levels of protein expression of Rac1‐GTP, Rac1, HIF‐1α, NOX1, and Sp1, along with ERK1. Our study indicates that quercetin may improve hepatic fibrosis via inhibiting ROS‐associated inflammation as well as ameliorating hepatic IR by beneficial regulation of the STAT3/SOCS3/IRS1 signaling pathway.  相似文献

To obtain fractions enriched with biodegradable dissolved organic carbon (BDOC) or with organic compounds responsible for the chlorine demand (CID) and for trihalomethane formation potential (THMFP), Seine river water samples were percolated on various macroporous resins (anionic, cationic and non-ionic) and compared with granulated activated carbon (GAC). In addition, measurement of UV absorbance at 254 nm and the fluorescence index (λexcitation 320 nm) had allowed to follow up the retention of dissolved organic matter by the different adsorbants. In contrast to cationic and non-ionic resins, anionic resins confirm their excellent retention capacity of organic compounds responsible for UV 254 absorbance and fluorescence index. The relative values of BDOC/DOC ratio (mg-C/mg-C) are slightly increased in the effluents of anionic resins, indicating that they retain a little preferentially the refractory fraction instead of the biodegradable fraction. There is no significant difference between the ratio of CID/DOC (mg-Cl2/mg-C) in influent and effluent of anionic resins. Cationic resin has a low capacity for retention of DOC, but they seem to retain significantly the organic compounds responsible for CID. The capability of anionic resins to retain THMFP is similar to that of GAC.  相似文献

The objective of this study was to develop a prototype multispectral imaging system for online quality assessment on pomegranate fruit. At first, a visible/near infrared spectroscopy (400–1100 nm) was tested for non-destructive determination of total soluble solids, titratable acidity, and pH. The spectral data were analyzed using the partial least square analysis. Then to establish consistent multispectral imaging system, the highest absolute values of β-coeffcients correspond to wavelengths from the best partial least square calibration model were selected and used for identifying the optimal wavelengths. Consequently, a multispectral imaging system was developed based on the effective wavelengths 700, 800, 900, and 1000 nm. The performance of the developed multispectral imaging system was evaluated by multiple linear regression models. The multiple linear regression model predict total soluble solids with r = 0.97, root mean square error of calibration = 0.21°Brix, and ratio performance deviation = 6.7 °Brix. Also, the results showed that the models had good predictive ability for pH and titratable acidity. Results showed that the developed multispectral imaging system based on the optimal wavelengths could be used for online quality assessment of pomegranate fruit.  相似文献

Nanostructured manganese dioxide has been successfully prepared by a sonochemical method from an aqueous solution of potassium bromate and manganese sulfate. Changing the proportions of reagents leads either to γ- or layered structures of MnO2. The capacitive characteristics of the samples were systematically investigated in aqueous electrolytes through means of cyclic voltammetry and chronopotentiometry methods. The electrochemical properties of MnO2 were strongly affected by the pH of electrolyte employed and this material exhibited ideally capacitive behavior in 0.5 M aqueous Na2SO4 solution. A maximum specific capacitance of 344 F g−1 was obtained for the layered structure determined via cyclic voltammetry at a scan rate of 5 mV s−1 in 0.5 M aqueous Na2SO4 solution at pH 3.3. Excellent electrochemical reversibility of the materials was also demonstrated.Layered structure MnO2 showed higher energy density at high power density than the γ-structure material.Impedance spectroscopy studies revealed that charge transfer resistance of the γ-structure oxide has higher value than that of the layered structure.  相似文献

The collision of solitary waves is an important problem in both physics and applied mathematics. In this paper, we study the solution of coupled nonlinear Schrödinger equations based on pseudospectral collocation method with domain decomposition algorithm for approximating the spatial variable. The problem is converted to a system of nonlinear ordinary differential equations which will be integrated in time by explicit Runge–Kutta method of order four. The multidomain scheme has much better stability properties than the single domain. Thus this permits using much larger step size for the time integration which fulfills stability restrictions. The proposed scheme reduces the effects of round-of-error for the Chebyshev collocation and also uses less memory without sacrificing the accuracy. The numerical experiments are presented which show the multidomain pseudospectral method has excellent long-time numerical behavior and preserves energy conservation property.  相似文献

TiO2 nanocomposite films with different concentrations of TiO2 MT-150A nanoparticles were immobilized on glass substrates using a dip coating process. The crystalline structure and surface chemical state of nanocomposite film properties were examined by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), respectively. The specific surface area and morphology of TiO2 MT-150A nanoparticles were evaluated by the BET method and Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscopy (FE-SEM). The photocatalytic activities of films were evaluated by the methyl orange decoloring rate. XPS measurements showed that the oxygen amount (%) was related to the film composition. The composite film with 10 g/L MT-150A loading yielded the highest amount of surface oxygen (26.82%) and TiO2 rutile showed the lowest amount of surface oxygen (13.67%) in the form of surface hydroxyl groups. The remaining oxygen was identified as lattice oxygen. In addition, the nanocomposite film with 10 g/L MT-150A loading yielded the highest photocatalytic activity.  相似文献
