In Quebec, Canada, industrial bark wastelands cover several hundred hectares of land. Bark residue that has piled up for decades tends to remain free of vegetation for years. To assess the revegetation potential of such sites, we sought to determine those factors responsible for poor plant growth. Phenolic compounds from fresh to 20-year-old bark residues were extracted with four solvents and quantified by high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). We simulated solutions (mixtures of standard phenolic compounds) to evaluate the potential toxic effects of phenolic compounds on the rhizobial growth, germination index, plant growth, nodule number, and nitrogen fixation activity of two legume species under laboratory conditions. The concentration of individual phenolic compounds varied from none detected to 350 μg/g bark residue. The extracted phenolic compounds differed among solvents and bark residues. The highest concentration of total phenolic compounds was from fresh bark; most of these were soluble in water or 0.1 M NaOH. For older bark residues, the total phenolic content depended on solvent strength, generally in the order of 2.0 M NaOH > 0.1 M NaOH = hot water > cold water. The biological activity of the simulated bark extracts was not established with the rhizobial growth inhibition test but with the germination index and rhizobium–legume symbiosis tests. With these, the toxicity of the simulated phenolic extracts decreased from fresh to the older bark residues. Plant dry weight, nodule number, and nitrogen fixation activity of vetch (Vicia sativa L.) were less negatively affected by high concentrations of phenolics than birdsfoot trefoil (Lotus corniculatus L.), although birdsfoot trefoil grew at lower concentrations. The rhizobium–legume symbiosis has potential for revegetating bark wastelands with less than 1 year old and older bark residues.  相似文献

There is a mass of detailed data concerning technical risk assessment methods and practices for underground work. But there is very little advice or guidance on the broad apportionment of the total risk between the various phases of an underground project or general advice on how risk might be managed. The Working Group has produced a generic Risk Budget covering five typical phases of an underground works project, which illustrates the heavy bias of risk towards the early phases. Entrepreneurial orientation (EO) is a strategic posture of an organization, and it is related to basic policies and practices for the development of entrepreneurial actions looking for creating competitive advantages. This study develops and tests a model of the relationship between entrepreneurial orientation and project success in Brazilian context. As quantitative research, a survey was used to collect data. A sample of 100 valid answers from project practitioners was treated through the structural equation modeling method. As research implications, the main result points out the positive correlation between the entrepreneurial orientation and the project success, contributing to the development of this research subject and helping to minimize the gap in the literature that addresses the relationship between project success and EO. In practical terms, understanding that innovativeness, risk taking, proactiveness, autonomy and competitive aggressiveness (the dimensions of the EO) can contribute to project success and can also indirectly impact on organizational performance, could help organizations get competitive advantage when developing correlate factors. Finally, the results suggest that practices of project management can be aligned to the firm's entrepreneurial orientation to enable firms to attain better results in their projects and generate a competitive advantage. On other hand, given the proportion of the impact of EO on project success (20.3%) identified in this study, it is critical that project management professionals expand their horizon to recognize other factors that affect project success.  相似文献

We describe a momentum resolving time-of-flight ion mass spectrometer that combines a high mass resolution, a velocity focusing condition for improved momentum resolution, and field-free conditions in the source region for high resolution electron detection. It is used in electron-ion coincidence experiments to record multiple ionic fragments produced in breakup reactions of small to medium sized molecules, such as F(3)SiCH(2)CH(2)Si(CH(3))(3). These breakup reactions are caused by soft x rays or intense laser fields. The ion spectrometer uses pulsed extraction fields, an electrostatic lens, and a delay line detector to resolve the position. Additionally, we describe a simple analytical method for calculating the momentum from the measured hit position and the time of flight of the ions.  相似文献

The potential benefits of using a static mixer for ozone dissolution was evaluated through comprehensive pilot- and full-scale studies under a variety of operating conditions and source waters. The static mixer pilot unit was operated side-by-side to a full-scale plant which also employed static mixers for ozonation. Based on the results obtained from this pilot study (and at other sites), it appears that an optimal ozone dose (≤0.5mgO3/mgC) applied through a static mixer dissolution system integrated with a well-designed downstream contactor can result in enhanced microbial inactivation while keeping bromate formation below 10μg/L.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to evaluate by scanning electron microscope (SEM) photomicrographs the influence of application of halogen light‐curing for fastening the set reaction of high‐viscosity glass ionomer cements (GIC) by assessing the material/dentin interface. Twelve human primary canines were assigned in four groups (n = 3) according to the GIC (Fuji IX, GC or Maxxion R, FGM) and application of halogen light‐curing (60 sec or control—no external energy). Blocks with approximately 6 mm of height were buildup on previously pre‐treated dentin surface in according to the experimental group. After storage at 37 °C, 100% humidity for 48 h, the specimens were then sectioned in slices with 1‐mm thick. The slices were qualitative analyzed using SEM to evaluate possible structural changes. Two examiners independently evaluated the images in order to observe the spherical hollow spaces of each tooth. The photomicrographs revealed the presence of spherical hollow spaces in all experimental groups. However, in both groups that received halogen light‐curing application, it was possible to observe that the presence of these hollow spaces decreased in size and quantity. It can be concluded that the halogen light‐curing application positively decreases in size and quantity in the presence of spherical hollow spaces in GIC.  相似文献

In order to better evaluate the consequences of an accidental release of heavy gas, such as uranium hexafluoride (UF(6)), in some installations in the nuclear fuel cycle, an experimental and numerical study was conducted by IRSN on heavy gas dispersion in a ventilated room. This study was based on about 20 injection configurations of a large quantity of a heavy tracer gas, sulphur hexafluoride (SF(6)), inside two ventilated rooms of different sizes. Stratification of the tracer gas was detected in all the configurations studied, even at low concentrations. Numerical simulations performed with the multidimensional CFX code enabled the stratification and the concentration levels reached in the rooms to be predicted overall, and the higher the air flow rate, the more satisfactory the comparison between simulation and experiment.  相似文献

Despite much progress over the past decade, current single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) genotyping technologies still offer an insufficient degree of multiplexing when required to handle user selected sets of SNPs. In this paper we propose a new genotyping assay architecture combining multiplexed solution-phase single-base extension (SBE) reactions with sequencing by hybridization (SBH) using universal DNA arrays such as all k-mer arrays. Simulation results on datasets both randomly generated and extracted from the NCBI dbSNP database suggest that the SBE/SBH architecture provides a flexible and cost-effective alternative to genotyping assays currently used in the industry, enabling genotyping of up to hundreds of thousands of SNPs per assay  相似文献
