This note describes a simple technique, the Gamma (or Near Neighbour) test, which in many cases can be used to considerably simplify the design process of constructing a smooth data model such as a neural network. The Gamma test is a data analysis routine, that (in an optimal implementation) runs in time O(MlogM)as M,where Mis the number of sample data points, and which aims to estimate the best Mean Squared Error (MSError) that can be achieved by any continuous or smooth (bounded first partial derivatives) data model constructed using the data.First presented at NCAF seminar, Portsmouth, UK on 20 September 1995  相似文献

The success of clinical proteomics, per definition, is ultimately defined by the clinical implementation of proteomics findings. Extensive research activity in the field, targeting especially biomarker discovery, has been conducted in the past decades, with several studies suggesting a benefit from proteome‐based application in patient management. This viewpoint article discusses the current status in clinical proteomics with respect to implementation (as evidenced by the use of protein findings in drug labeling and patient stratification), and proposes specific action points for accelerating the biomarker validation process, placing special emphasis on the importance of data and resource sharing.  相似文献

Fiber-reinforced polymers are widely used as lightweight materials in aircraft, automobiles, wind turbine blades, and sports products. Despite the beneficial weight reduction achieved in such applications, these composites often suffer from poor recyclability and limited geometries. 3D printing of liquid crystal polymers into complex-shaped all-fiber materials is a promising approach to tackle these issues and thus increase the sustainability of current lightweight structures. Here, we report a spin-printing technology for the manufacturing of recyclable and strong all-fiber lightweight materials. All-fiber architectures are created by combining thick print lines and thin spun fibers as reinforcing elements in bespoke orientations. Through controlled extrusion experiments and theoretical analyses, we systematically study the spinning process and establish criteria for the generation of thin fibers and laminates with unprecedented mechanical properties. The potential of the technology is further illustrated by creating complex structures with unique all-fiber architectures and mechanical performance.  相似文献

Vickers and Knoop indentation tests have been used to study the fracture and deformation characteristics of 9.4-mol%-Y2O3-stabilized ZrO2 single crystals. Kc is anisotropic, with values of 1.9 and 1.1 MPa·m1/2 for radial cracks propagating along (100) and (110), respectively. The toughness for these two orientations was also determined using the single-edge notched-beam geometry, and yielded values of 1.9 and 1.5 MPa·m1/2.  相似文献

A major requirement in the application of proteins as clinical biomarkers is that they provide a highly sensitive and specific result in disease assessment. Since single biomarkers are generally of limited accuracy, a group or panel of well-characterized biomarkers appears appropriate, providing a more robust and sensitive MS-based analytical platform. CE coupled to MS has been successfully used in biomarker discovery and application, as it enables the selective detection of peptides and small proteins, combining the high separation capacity of CE with the advanced sensitivity of MS. CE-MS allows the characterization of highly complex samples (such as urine, plasma, and other biofluids) in a consistent and reproducible way. It has a range of applications, many focusing especially in studies on urinary peptide biomarkers in kidney and cardiovascular diseases. Another major field of interest has been malignancy of the genitourinary system. In the first part of this review, we cover technical aspects and performance characteristics of CE-MS, with special focus on the requirements for biomarker discovery and clinical application. In the second part, we review the potential and development of CE-MS in the management of genitourinary cancers, especially bladder cancer. CE-MS has been employed in several studies aimed at discovering biomarkers for bladder cancer that may be useful in diagnosis, monitoring for recurrence, and prediction of the risk for the muscle-invasive stage. In the last part of the review, we discuss current challenges and provide an outlook for ongoing and possible future developments.  相似文献

A lamellar hydrocalumite-type [Ca2Al(OH)6]NO3·mH2O, (HC), was synthesized and characterized by X-ray diffraction analysis (XRD), surface area, pore size measurements, CO2-Thermal Programmed Desorption, and later tested as catalysts in the double bond isomerization of 1-butene. The layered structure of HC collapses above 523 K yielding an amorphous material at 573 K which upon calcination at 873–973 K transforms into a mixture of CaO and mayenite Ca12Al14O33. The calcination temperature has a marked effect in the formation of basic sites. Thus for example, HC calcined at 1073 K shows 90% of strong basic sites (CO2 desorption at 1023 K) while they are absent in HC calcined at 573–673 K. HC calcined at 973 K shows high catalytic activity (74% conversion) in the isomerization of 1-butene without any appreciable deactivation after 4 h on stream.  相似文献
