The zebrafish pineal gland plays a fundamental role in the regulation of the circadian rhythm through the melatonin secretion. The pinealocytes, also called photoreceptive cells, are considered the morphofunctional unit of pineal gland. In literature, the anatomical features, the cellular characteristics, and the pinealocytes morphology of zebrafish pineal gland have not been previously described in detail. Therefore, this study was undertaken to analyze the structure and ultrastructure, as well as the immunohistochemical profile of the zebrafish pineal gland with particular reference to the pinealocytes. Here, we demonstrated, using RT-PCR, immunohistochemistry and transmission electron microscopy, the expression of the mRNA for rhodopsin in the pineal gland of zebrafish, as well as its cellular localization exclusively in the pinealocytes of adult zebrafish. Moreover, the ultrastructural observations demonstrated that the pinealocytes were constituted by an outer segment with numerous lamellar membranes, an inner segment with many mitochondria, and a basal pole with the synapses. Our results taken together demonstrated a central role of zebrafish pinealocytes in the control of pineal gland functions.  相似文献

Compact pressure causes a martensitic transformation of partially stabilized tetragonal bismuth-doped ZrO2 powders to the monoclinic phase. A similar effect is not observed when pelletization, followed by firing, of amorphous bismuth/ZrO2 is performed. The stress-induced transition has been monitored via X-ray diffractometry, Raman spectroscopy, and Fourier transform infrared reflectivity. Surface bismuth segregation, which involves few ionic planes, has been probed by angle-resolved X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The bismuth segregation enthalpy has been evaluated.  相似文献

Polymer blends can undergo, during processing, degradation phenomena because of the presence of both temperature and mechanical stresses. With respect to pure homogeneous polymers, the degradation of polymer blends shows distinct features because of the possible interaction between the different chemical species. These interaction can give rise to both a faster degradation or to the formation of copolymers which act as stabilizing agents. The thymus undergoes an age-dependent degenerative process which is mainly characterized by a progressive loss of lymphoid tissue. Thymic involution is particularly important in relation to immunosenescence and its various associated diseases; this fact has prompted many studies aimed at understanding the causes and mechanisms of thymic degeneration which may, ultimately, lead to the possibility of manipulating it. In this sense, one of the aspects which has deserved most attention is the thymic microenvironment, and more precisely, the many growth factors to which the cells present in the organ are exposed. Thus, the levels of several of such factors have been reported to undergo age-dependent changes in the thymus, which may point at an influence on the regression of the organ. In this article we consider which growth factors and growth factor receptors occur in the vertebrate thymus. Then, focusing on those whose influences are better documented, i.e., neurotrophins, cytokines and IGFs, we discuss their potential role in the organ and the possibility of their being involved in thymic involution.  相似文献

In this paper, the influence of several parameters on the mechanical behaviour and failure modes of hybrid bonded joints aluminium/composite was investigated. Particularly, the effects of metallic surface condition, adhesive properties and thickness on single-lap joint resistance were analysed. To these aims, two adhesives were used and, for each adhesive, two different adhesive thicknesses (0.5 and 1.5?mm) have been investigated. Furthermore, two sets of joints for each adhesive kind and thickness were investigated: the former was obtained using aluminium blanks which were previously mechanically treated with sandpaper (P60) and the latter using aluminium treated with sandpaper and with presence of fillets in the ends of the overlap area. In order to improve the adhesion strength between polymeric adhesive and aluminium, two metal surface treatments have also been performed using a silane coupling agent, ??-glycidoxypropyltrimethoxysilane (??-GPS). The mechanical performances and failure modes were found to be significantly increased using the chemical pre-treatments with ??-GPS silane coupling agent unlike other parameters investigated. As regard the thickness of the adhesive layer, the better value is found to be equal to 0.5?mm, for both adhesives investigated.  相似文献

This paper compares conventional and cryogenic cooling in the deep hole drilling of carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP)/Ti stacks. Various parameters are taken into account to find if the use of cryogenic coolant is justified by the improvement of the final results. Both the thrust and the torque were acquired continuously during the machining operations and compared both in average and distribution. The use of a cryogenic coolant brings a reduction in thrust force and torque without any sensible drawback. Overall the results prove that cryogenic drilling is a suitable technology for CFRP/Ti stack drill.  相似文献

Four experiments were conducted to investigate the relationship between the binding of visual features (as measured by their aftereffects on subsequent binding) and the learning of feature-conjunction probabilities. Both binding and learning effects were obtained, but they did not interact. Interestingly, (shape-color) binding effects disappeared with increasing practice, presumably because of the fact that only 1 of the features involved was relevant to the task. However, this instability was only observed for arbitrary, not highly overlearned combinations of simple geometric features and not for real objects (colored pictures of a banana and strawberry), where binding effects were strong and resistant to practice. These findings suggest that learning has no direct impact on the strength or resistance of bindings or on speed with which features are bound; however, learning does affect the amount of attention particular feature dimensions attract, which again can influence which features are considered in binding. Composite materials are widely employed in sailing sports, a possible application is for the mast pole or other sail poles. In the paper the attention is focused on the spinnaker poles mechanical performances; in particular the focus is on axial and ring compressive properties of three different carbon fibre/epoxy resin spinnaker poles, to investigate both the diameter and stacking sequence effect on the mechanical performance of the structure. Starting from the stacking sequence used in the production of a particular spinnaker pole, the effect of a lamina at 0° in the middle of wall thickness is investigated with the purpose to obtain a more stiff structure. Moreover to test the proposed stacking sequence on different size products, a prototype with lower diameter is realized. To properly evaluate axial and ring stiffness, axial compression test and ring stiffness one are performed. Then a numerical model is developed to support the design of the finished product: A simple and versatile numerical analysis (FEA with software ANSYS), by simulating ring stiffness and pull-direction compression tests, is carried out in elastic regime. Such model should be suitable for designing and/or verifying the mechanical performance of pole structures, even though differing from those above described, for materials, geometry and stacking sequence.  相似文献
