An efficient and low-cost effluent adsorbent has been developed by grafting an ionizable monomer onto polyolefin surface and its efficacy was tested for dyes and metal ion uptake from aqueous medium. The grafted matrix was synthesized by optimizing various experimental parameters such as irradiation dose, dose rate, monomer concentration, inhibitor concentration, surfactant concentration, and backbone thickness. Grafting yield decreased with dose rate and thickness and increased with the concentration of methacrylic acid and inhibitor. Grafting kinetics studies indicated that grafting rate is comparatively much affected by dose rate that monomer concentration. Surface energy of the grafted surface was accessed from dynamic contact angle measurements. Uptake study of Basic Red 29, Methylene Blue showed high correlation with grafting yield and polar component of the surface energy; however, metal ion uptake was exceptionally high at ~25 grafting (%), highlighting anomalous behavior of MAA-g-LDPE with respect to surface energy and total ion uptake capacity.  相似文献

Biocathode application in microbial fuel cell has been developed as a sustainable technology for heavy metal reduction. However, most biocathodes require pretreatment with acclimatization inversion. Here, a biocathode MFC based on strain Corynebacterium vitaeruminis LZU47-1 without acclimatization inversion was constructed for hexavalent chromium reduction. The maximum power generation by the biocathode MFC with C. vitaeruminis LZU47-1 increased by 24.5% and 53.4% in inversion and abiotic cathode groups, respectively. Compared with the inversion (72.52%) and abiotic cathode groups (64.75%), the biocathode group achieved a Cr(VI) removal efficiency of 98.63%. Furthermore, electrochemical analysis such as SEM-EDS, XPS and CV test were conducted to elucidate the adsorption-reduction mechanism for Cr(VI) reduction. MiSeq sequencing revealed that Geobacter (51.28%) was enriched on the anode biofilm in the biocathode group than inversion (38.52%) and abiotic cathode groups (31.74%). Therefore, this study provides a convenient and highly effective method for enhancing power output and Cr(VI) reduction in biocathode MFCs.  相似文献

In the present study, natural convection in a two-dimensional porous right-angled triangular enclosure with one wavy wall is studied numerically. Three cases with one, two, and three undulations on the left wall are studied in this analysis. The stream function-vorticity equations are solved using finite-difference technique and a structured nonorthogonal body-fitted mesh is used for computations. The effect of Rayleigh number (Ra = 103–106), Darcy number (Da = 10?4–10?2) and undulations on the heat transfer, fluid flow, and entropy generation is investigated. It is found that average Nusselt number increases with Darcy number and number of undulations present on the left wall at fixed Darcy number.  相似文献

Composites of polypropylene—CaCO3 coated with isopropoxy triisostearoyl titanate have been prepared on Buss Ko-Kneader. These composites have been evaluated for mechanical properties, melt index, dispersion, and adhesion of polymer to filler using the scanning electron microscope. Calcium carbonate being a platelike substance with low aspect ratio results in composites having inferior tensile properties but superior impact characteristics. Uniform dispersion of filler in the composite and long alkyl chains of the coupling agent provide additional advantages such as improved melt index, higher tensile elongation, and better optical properties.  相似文献

Dietary fibres and high fibre-containing foods have been a huge attraction among researchers and nutraceutical industries due to their health-promoting benefits. From Greek and Roman times, edible mushrooms are considered the ‘elixir of life’ and are often stated as a new source of dietary fibre. Containing rich sources of essential amino acids and polysaccharides, mushrooms are viewed as an advantage over protein sources of both animal and plant origin. Additionally, the ability of mushrooms to grow under controlled conditions and attain high yield in a short span has made this added-value food of extreme interest. Nowadays, mushrooms and their by-products have been used to fortify various food products as well as for use in animal feed owing to their bioactive, therapeutic and nutritional value. Hence, this review intends to highlight the current knowledge on edible mushrooms and their waste for food and feed enrichment and nutritional purposes, along with their role in human and animal diet.  相似文献
