Although automation is playing an increasing role on the ship's bridge, empirical research on the effectiveness of alternative bridge designs is limited. In this paper, we describe an experimental study of the benefits of integrated information display, using a computerized simulation of a highly automated ship's bridge. The study compared three types of interface design, which presented radar and electronic chart information to the operator in different ways: (a) integrated display, (b) functionally-separate display, and (c) spatially-separate display. Effects were examined in relation to time on watch and scenario complexity. Following extensive training on the task, 39 participants were tested over a 4-h experimental session, during which they encountered a sequence of collision scenarios of varying complexity. Using a dual-task methodology, a range of measures of primary and secondary task performance were taken, together with assessment of information sampling behaviour and subjective operator state (workload, fatigue, anxiety and situation awareness). The results indicated slight navigational advantages of the integrated display over the two alternative display types, although it also incurred higher levels of operator cost, particularly fatigue. There were no marked effects of time on watch, but more complex scenarios were associated with impaired performance, increased workload and reduced situation awareness. Overall, the findings have suggested some benefits of integrating primary information sources in a ship's bridge environment. The study further confirms the value of experimental simulations as tools for investigating design issues for ship's bridge automation.  相似文献

The commercial software used for predicting fatigue strength for load‐carrying spot welds in sheet structures, like car bodies, is mainly developed for two‐sheet joints. The purpose of this work was to study the fatigue properties of three‐sheet spot welded joints with a dimensioning method used in the automotive industry and to compare such computational results to those obtained from a more accurate method and to experimental data. Eleven three‐sheet, single spot welded specimens were studied using a structural stress approach, followed by shell element simulations, similar to those used in commercial software. These results were compared to calculations based on fine meshed solid element models. Fracture mechanics was used to evaluate the loading conditions at the spot welds. Comparison between the results from the different methods and experimental results for three shear loaded specimens, consisting of triple sheets, found in literature showed good correlation. The shell element method in shear loaded cases gives stress intensities within +35% to ‐5% of the solid element method results. In peel loaded cases the results differ up to ‐60%, an under‐estimation that leads to an increase of estimated fatigue life up to 65 times.  相似文献

The bandwidth minimization problem has a long history and a number of practical applications. In this paper we introduce a natural extension of bandwidth to partially ordered layouts. We consider this extension from three main viewpoints: graph searching, tree decompositions, and elimination orderings. The three graph parameters pathwidth, profile, and bandwidth related to linear layouts can be defined by variants of graph searching using a standard fugitive. Switching to an inert fugitive, the two former parameters are extended to treewidth and fill-in, and our first viewpoint considers the analogous tree-like extension that arises from the bandwidth variant. Bandwidth also has a definition in terms of ordered path decompositions, and our second viewpoint extends this in a natural way to ordered tree decompositions. In showing that both extensions are equivalent we employ the third viewpoint of elimination trees, as used in the field of sparse matrix computations. We call the resulting parameter the treespan of a graph and prove some of its combinatorial and algorithmic properties.  相似文献

A method has been developed for highly sensitive detection of specific DNA sequences in a homogeneous assay using labeled oligonucleotide molecules in combination with single-molecule photon burst counting and identification. The fluorescently labeled oligonucleotides are called smart probes because they report the presence of complementary target sequences by a strong increase in fluorescence intensity. The smart probes consist of a fluorescent dye attached at the terminus of a hairpin oligonucleotide. The presented technique takes advantage of the fact that the used oxazine dye JA242 is efficiently quenched by complementary guanosine residues. Upon specific hybridization to the target DNA, the smart probe undergoes a conformational change that forces the fluorescent dye and the guanosine residues apart, thereby increasing the fluorescence intensity about six fold in ensemble measurements. To increase the detection sensitivity below the nanomolar range, a confocal fluorescence microscope was used to observe the fluorescence bursts from individual smart probes in the presence and absence of target DNA as they passed through the focused laser beam. Smart probes were excited by a pulsed diode laser emitting at 635 nm with a repetition rate of 64 MHz. Each fluorescence burst was identified by three independent parameters: (a) the burst size, (b) the burst duration, and (c) the fluorescence lifetime. Through the use of this multiparameter analysis, higher discrimination accuracies between smart probes and hybridized probe-target duplexes were achieved. The presented multiparameter detection technique permits the identification of picomolar target DNA concentrations in a homogeneous assay, i.e., the detection of specific DNA sequences in a 200-fold excess of labeled probe molecules.  相似文献

This paper addresses the long object problem in helical cone-beam computed tomography. We present the PHI-method, a new algorithm for the exact reconstruction of a region-of-interest (ROI) of a long object from axially truncated data extending only slightly beyond the ROI. The PHI-method is an extension of the Radon-method, published by Kudo, Noo, and Defrise in issue 43 of journal Physics in Medicine and Biology. The key novelty of the PHI-method is the introduction of a virtual object fpsi(x) for each value of the azimuthal angle psi in the image space, with each virtual object having the property of being equal to the true object f(x) in some ROI omegam. We show that, for each psi, one can calculate exact Radon data corresponding to the two-dimensional (2-D) parallel-beam projection of fpsi(x) onto the meridian plane of angle psi. Given an angular range of length pi of such parallel-beam projections, the ROI omegam can be exactly reconstructed because f(x) is identical to fpsi(x) in Omegam. Simulation results are given for both the Radon-method and the PHI-method indicating that 1) for the case of short objects, the Radon- and PHI-methods produce comparable image quality, 2) for the case of long objects, the PHI-method delivers the same image quality as in the short object case, while the Radon-method fails, and 3) the image quality produced by the PHI-method is similar for a large range of pitch values.  相似文献

在某些废煤钢熔炼过程中,当炉料中含碳及碳氢物质且燃烧不充分时,会带来烟气中一氧化碳的燃爆、油污库发时造成的烟雾、臭味等问题。通过实施室装置研究同废钢在加热过程中烟气成分随时间的改变以及二次燃烧率的变化,试验结果表明,反应过程的限制性环节是油分的热分解;在较低的温度下φ(CO)φ(CO2)比例影响转化率和二次燃烧率;而在任意比例下保证充分反应的温度为900℃以上。  相似文献

Selective as well as waste forming active centers were defined for MoVNbTeO and MoVTaTeO catalysts in the ammoxidation of propane to acrylonitrile and all catalytic functionalities were assigned to specific elements at the respective active centers. Symbiosis between M1 and M2 phases of these catalysts was observed, with phase cooperation being more extensive in the Nb than Ta containing compositions. The difference in catalytic effectiveness arises most likely because contact and surface area exposure of the two respective, cooperating phase pairs are not equal. The M1 phase of the catalysts is reducible by propane and ammonia in the absence of dioxygen and is regenerable to its original, fully oxidized state by dioxygen (air). No structural collapse is observed even after 120 C3H8 + NH3 reduction pulses. The so induced reduction of the catalyst extends up to 70 layers deep. The product distribution over the first few pulses is very similar to that under catalytic conditions, supporting the concept that lattice oxygen is involved in the catalytic ammoxidation process. Therefore, the ammoxidation of paraffins is a redox process, as is of course the well-known olefin ammoxidation process.  相似文献

Partial condensation and non-adiabatic rectification of binary mixtures in packed columns. Vertical tube assemblies are preferred for partial condensation of vapour mixtures. The mixture of vapours is fed through the tubes in countercurrent flow to the falling condensate, while coolant flows through the jacket. Only with very large ratios of length L to diameter d of the tubes, i.e. L/d 200, does the separatory effect of partial condensation, owing to rectification mass transfer between the phases, exceed the enrichment effect of partial condensation. Use of ring-shaped packings drastically reduces the characteristic diameter, so that the additional separatory effect occurs at relatively short tube lengths. In the present paper, experimental results concerning the separation efficiency of tubes packed with Raschig rings for non-adiabatic rectification and partial condensation of the “negative” binary mixture n-heptane/benzene are reported and evaluated with the aid of the extended two-film theory. It is found that the resistance to mass transfer averaged over the length of the tube lies entirely on the liquid side on non-adiabatic rectification. Correlation of the Sherwood number of the condensate taken over the length of the tube and the condensate loading clearly shows that the usual calculation of partial condensation with average total mass transfer coefficients does not give physically meaningful results in the case of liquid-side resistance to transport. Calculating procedures which account for the variation of the partial mass transfer coefficients along the tube should lead to improved evaluation or prediction of separation efficiency.  相似文献
