Introduces the Special Section "Ethnicity and psychoanalysis." The authors address how psychoanalytic formulations focus in the main on the study of the individual's internal structure, the study of the mind as a theater of conflict without much concern with the possible influence of ethnic components in psychic structure. Their interest is to extend the study of the mind as a theater of conflict to include the issue of ethnicity and ethnic tension. The authors further discuss providing a psychoanalytic perspective on ethnic tension, the ethnic unconscious, cultural background factors, and the psychological mechanism of ethnic tension in relation to the articles of the special section. Experimental comparison of two methods for the measurement of long gauge blocks

A comparison of two methods of measurement of long gauge blocks is performed. It is shown that the relative divergence of the measurement results obtained by a method involving counting of the interference bands between the centers of gravity of the achromatic bands and a method involving matching fractional parts of the orders of interference amounts to less than 10⁻⁸. __________ Translated from Izmeritel’naya Tekhnika, No. 7, pp. 20–23, July, 2007.     

Comprehensive characterization of engine deposits from fuel containing MMT

Combustion chamber deposits from a 1996 GM3800 engine operating on a base fuel or the base fuel containing the organometallic antiknock additive methylcyclopentadienyl manganese tricarbonyl were examined. Scanning Electron Microscopy and Energy Dispersive X-ray spectroscopic analysis were performed to identify the morphology and the bulk chemical composition. Glow-Discharge Mass Spectrometry and X-ray Diffraction analyses were also used to characterize the bulk chemical composition and crystalline structure of the deposits. In addition, X-ray photoemission and X-ray photoabsorption spectra for the deposits were compared to a series of Mn compounds to model and aid quantification of the constituents. Results reveal a mixture of Ca-sulfate, Mn-phosphate and Mn-oxide in the bulk of the deposits and a mixture of Mn-sulfate, Mn-phosphate and Mn-oxide on the surface of the deposits.

芦蒿化学成分的分析

用极性溶剂提取干芦蒿的活性物质,并运用气相色谱-质谱联用法对芦蒿化学成分进行分析,同时用气相色谱面积归一化法测定各成分的相对百分含量。结果测得49种物质,有石竹烯、冰片、桉叶醇、o-薄荷-1(7)、8-二烯-3-醇、植醇,含量分别为13.946%、1.105%、1.948%、1.697%、2.132%。

Evolution of juice anthocyanins during ripening of new selected pomegranate (Punica granatum) clones

 For five new clones of pomegranate, cultivated under homogeneous conditions, changes in juice anthocyanin contents during ripening were studied. Six anthocyanin pigments were found to be responsible for the red color of pomegranate juice. These were quantitatively and qualitatively analyzed by high-performance liquid chromatography and identified as delphinidin 3-glucoside and 3,5-diglucoside, cyanidin 3-glucoside and 3,5-diglucoside and pelargonidin 3-glucoside and 3,5-diglucoside. Generally, there was an increase in juice pigmentation during fruit ripening. In the early fruit-ripening stages, delphinidin 3,5-diglucoside was the main pigment, followed by cyanidin 3,5-diglucoside, while in the later stages, the monoglucoside derivatives cyanidin 3-glucoside and delphinidin 3-glucoside increased considerably. The pelargonidin derivatives were always present in small amounts. Received: 1 March 1999     

Airway response of horses with COPD to dry powder inhalation of ipratropium bromide

At some stages of development, it is impossible to identify the porcine nodular worms Oesophagostomum dentatum and O. quadrispinulatum to the species level using morphological parameters. A molecular approach utilizing genetic markers in the second internal transcribed spacer (ITS-2) of ribosomal (r) DNA was developed to overcome this limitation. The ITS-2 sequence of each species was determined, and specific oligonucleotide primers were designed to regions of greatest sequence difference between the species. Utilizing these primers, rapid PCR procedures were developed for the specific amplification of DNA of O. dentatum or O. quadrispinulatum, which are now used routinely to monitor the purity of larval cultures and to confirm the identity of larvae derived from the intestine or faeces. The application of specific PCR has major implications for studying the population biology of nodular worms in the pig model.

Discusses repression in bilingual analyses, including repressed memories, transference, and dreams, as well as the whole associative process. As certain memories are more accessible in one language than the other, repression for bilingual individuals may be partly a function of linguistic accessibility.
