Clustering-based order-picking sequence algorithm for an automated warehouse

This paper addresses the order picking sequence problem in an automated warehouse where parts of an order picker's travelling tour are fixed, the length of the layout is significantly longer than the width, and the picker can hold only one item at a given time. The problem is to find an optimal sequence with given vertical paths and so it is a special type of travelling salesman problem. A simple sorting-based heuristic and an efficient clustering-based algorithm are developed for this problem. In order to use the gantry robots more efficiently, a flexible drop buffer assignment is considered and the proposed algorithms are modified for the new operating condition. Experimental results indicate the efficiency of the proposed algorithms.     

A Functional Smoothie from Carrots with Induced Enhanced Phenolic Content

Carrots are worldwide highly consumed due to their sensory characteristics and health-promoting properties. However, their low phenolic/antioxidant levels may be highly increased with abiotic stresses. Accordingly, phenolic/antioxidant enhancements and related phenylalanine ammonia-lyase (PAL) activity of carrot shreds under different treatments (UV-C radiation and hyperoxia conditions) were studied after a pre-enrichment incubation of 72 h at 15 °C. Subsequently, a carrot smoothie prepared from enriched carrot shreds was heat-treated (90 °C for 30 s) and stored at 5 °C up to 14 days. Heat-treated smoothies showed a good physicochemical and microbiological quality (<6 log CFU g^?1) after 14 days at 5 °C, although those non-irradiated samples registered lower psychrophilic and yeast and mold levels. Heat-treated smoothie from non-irradiated shreds stored under hyperoxia conditions showed the highest total phenolic content of 13.82 mg chlorogenic acid equivalent (ChAE) kg^?1 fw (87 % chlorogenic acid) after 14 days at 5 °C. Total phenolic content was in accordance with PAL and total antioxidant capacity. Conclusively, a pre-enrichment incubation of carrot shreds under hyperoxia conditions allowed to obtain a functional smoothie with high phenolic levels and good microbiological and physicochemical quality up to 14 days at 5 °C.     

生物组织中强度调制的连续激光激发的光声信号影响因素研究

分析了强度调制的连续激光激发的光声信号形成过程以及调制脉宽对光声信号强度的影响,发现随着调制方波脉宽的增加,生物组织吸收的光功率增加,光声信号幅值增加。研究了调制脉宽对光声成像技术轴向分辨率的影响,发现随着调制方波脉宽宽度的增加,光声信号的脉宽增加,其轴向分辨率变差。在理论研究的基础上进行了实验验证,通过方波调制的激光二极管的出射激光激发生物组织获取声信号。在激光二极管出射光功率提高受限的条件下,通过增加作用在生物组织上的光功率密度获取高分辨率、高信噪比的光声图像。对强度调制连续激光激发的光声成像技术的研究能够为光声成像技术提供一种低成本、便携式的设备,为进一步研究提供参考。     

Case Study of Indirect Adiabatic Cooling System in Historical Building

The objective of the present study is to investigate the efficiency of indirect adiabatic chiller-based cooling system efficiency dependence of outdoor air humidity. The system is located in historical building, in temperate climate of Latvia. The data about electricity consumption, water consumption, chiller operation stages, cooling average temperatures and outdoor air parameters have been acquired for the period of 2.5 month, during the cooling season. Using data collected by BACnet based BMS controllers and adiabatic chiller control system, we have analyzed operation efficiency of the chiller and its dependence of outdoor air humidity. Data range for the period from August 1st till October 13th, 2011 was taken for deeper analysis, which showed that in temperature range 22.0 ± 0.5 ℃ for the studied period of time chiller＇s COP is slightly dependent on the outdoor air moisture.     

Improving the keeping quality of pomegranate fruit by intermittent warming

 Mollar pomegranates (Punica granatum, Punicaceae) were stored at 0  °C or 5  °C and 95% relative humidity (RH) for 80 days. Intermittent warming (IW) cycles of 1 day at 20  °C every 6 days, during which time the fruit had been stored at 0  °C or 5  °C, followed by a shelf-life period of 7 days at 15  °C and 70% RH were applied. IW during storage at 0  °C was the best treatment for maintaining the red skin colour as at harvest. However the red colour of the arils (hue angle) was kept better under warming at 5  °C. Although significant changes in the individual anthocyanins were observed in all treatments, particularly after the shelf-life period, the total anthocyanin content of the juice at harvest was maintained. While storage at 0  °C avoided decay although increased the risk of chilling injuries such us pitting and husk scald, 5  °C-storage reduced these injuries but fungal attacks were not inhibited. After the shelf-life period, IW alleviated chilling injuries without any incidence of decay. Warming treatments gave very good results with respect to storage and the keeping quality of pomegranates, particularly when applied during storage at 0  °C.
