Vascular infections after percutaneous endovascular procedures are rare. We report a case of bacterial arteritis following PTA and stent implantation into an iliac artery. It was complicated by septic embolization, ipsilateral empyema of the knee joint and formation of an infected false aneurysm. Contamination of the stent with Staphylococcus aureus is likely to be the cause. The treatment included resection of the infected arterial segment, removal of the stent, and autologous reconstruction.  相似文献

One of the most puzzling results from the complete genome sequence of the methanogenic archaeon Methanococcus jannaschii was that the organism may have only one DNA polymerase gene. This is because no other DNA polymerase-like open reading frames (ORFs) were found besides one ORF having the typical alpha-like DNA polymerase (family B). Recently, we identified the genes of DNA polymerase II (the second DNA polymerase) from the hyperthermophilic archaeon Pyrococcus furiosus, which has also at least one alpha-like DNA polymerase (T. Uemori, Y. Sato, I. Kato, H. Doi, and Y. Ishino, Genes Cells 2:499-512, 1997). The genes in M. jannaschii encoding the proteins that are homologous to the DNA polymerase II of P. furiosus have been located and cloned. The gene products of M. jannaschii expressed in Escherichia coli had both DNA polymerizing and 3'-->5' exonuclease activities. We propose here a novel DNA polymerase family which is entirely different from other hitherto-described DNA polymerases.  相似文献

Transient neonatal diabetes mellitus occurs in growth-retarded infants, has an incidence of 1 in 400000 live births and has been associated with both paternal uniparental disomy of chromosome 6 and paternal duplications of 6q. We analysed samples from our cohort of patients with transient neonatal diabetes mellitus for uniparental disomy of chromosome 6 using polymorphic microsatellite repeat analysis. We report here the fifth case of paternal uniparental disomy of chromosome 6 associated with classic transient neonatal diabetes mellitus and estimate that uniparental disomy of chromosome 6 accounts for approximately one fifth of cases of transient neonatal diabetes mellitus.  相似文献

Emission spectra and the intensity patterns of InAsSbP/InAsSb/InAsSbP-based diode lasers with different cavity lengths and a spectral range of 3–4 μm were studied. It is ascertained experimentally that a 200-to 300-μm-long and 18-μm-wide laser cavity ensures single-mode lasing, during which the wavelengthdecreases with current by about 100 ? and the top of the intensity pattern becomes bimodal, thus indicating that there are transverse spatial oscillations of laser flux in the cavity. In a 300-to 500-μm-long cavity, several tens of modes are generated mainly on the long-wavelength side of the mode that prevailed initially at the lasing threshold and spatial oscillations of laser flux are not observed. Single-mode lasing is attained due to the fact that the transverse oscillations of laser flux flatten the dynamic dielectric phase grating, which is usually produced by the interaction between lasing modes, and prevent an increase in amplification on the long-wavelength side of the dominant mode. __________ Translated from Fizika i Tekhnika Poluprovodnikov, Vol. 36, No. 11, 2002, pp. 1388–1392. Since the Latin American cholera epidemic began in 1991, 447 isolates of Vibrio cholerae O1 from the Western Hemisphere have been assayed by multilocus enzyme electrophoresis (MEE) to determine allelic variation among 16 enzyme-encoding genes. Two electrophoretic types (ETs) were identified among toxigenic isolates from Latin America: 323 were ET 4, the ET associated with the Latin American epidemic, and 29 were ET 3. Twenty-three of these ET 3 isolates had a distinctive antimicrobial resistance pattern also seen in isolates imported into the United States from Latin America and Southeast Asia. These resistant isolates had an identical ribotype and nearly identical pulsed-field gel electrophoresis (PFGE) patterns. Most nontoxigenic isolates analyzed were not precursors or descendants of toxigenic epidemic strains. MEE provided a population genetic frame-work for the interpretation of PFGE and ribotype data from the isolates in this study. All three methods identified 2 distinct strains of toxigenic V. cholerae O1 currently epidemic in Latin America.  相似文献
