Phenolic compounds have been shown to deliver numerous health benefits. Research has also shown that starch and phenolic compounds interact. This study aimed to investigate the effects of blackcurrant and strawberry powder on the physicochemical and in vitro predicted glycaemic response of sweet potato and potato starches. Sweet potato, or potato, starches were mixed with 0%, 5%, 10% and 15% (w/w) of blackcurrant, or strawberry, powder, to form blackcurrant and strawberry-enriched starch pastes. The results showed that enrichment with 5%, 10% and 15% blackcurrant or strawberry powder for sweet potato and potato starch significantly altered the pasting viscosity and colour profiles (P < 0.05), increased the phenolic content and antioxidant activities of starch pastes (P < 0.05). Blackcurrant or strawberry powders mixed with sweet potato or potato starches reduced amount of reducing sugar released during in vitro digestion. Addition of 15% blackcurrant powder for the starch exerted stronger in vitro antioxidant and hypoglycaemic properties than that of 15% strawberry powder. Collectively, these findings suggested that addition of blackcurrant or strawberry powder into sweet potato and potato starches manipulated the hypoglycaemic property of pastes.  相似文献

Biomonitoring is an important subject within environmental sciences. Biomonitoring tests are required to be quick, relatively inexpensive, accurate, and reproducible. No genetic test currently fulfils all of these requirements. The chromosome aberration and sister chromatid exchange tests are very time consuming, the DNA adduct technique is rather expensive, and the micronucleus test has not inconclusively proven its use as a reliable monitoring tool. This work is focused on the validation of the comet assay as a candidate for monitoring marine ecosystems. For the comet assay, this work deals with the effectiveness of tissue dissociation, storage of cells in lysing buffer and in liquid nitrogen, different electrophoretic conditions, neutralisation and fixation of slides, interindividual variation between samples, and responsiveness of four tissue types to ethyl methanesulphonate (EMS). The main conclusions are: (i) dissociation of solid tissues in a phosphate buffer supplemented with 200 mM N-t-butyl-alpha-phenylnitrone provides cells with an acceptable background DNA damage; (ii) freezing of cells or tissues in liquid nitrogen generally leads to an increase in DNA breakage, especially for liver, gill and kidney tissue; (iii) storage of slides in the lysing solution for up to one week gives minor changes in comet tails; (iv) differences in protocols for neutralisation and fixation may influence the results; (v) high intra- and interindividual variations in comets (length and DNA content) may obscure the interpretation of comet results; (vi) blood, gill, liver and kidney all showed a statistically significant increase of DNA damage after exposure to 50 mg EMS/l; (vii) electrophoresis at low voltage for longer periods is to be preferred to high voltage and short electrophoresis times. The simplicity and sensitivity of the comet assay make it an adequate test system for biomonitoring of chronic low level exposure. However, protocols and experimental conditions have to be chosen carefully.  相似文献

Summary A computerized databank of IEF protein patterns for use in identifying flatfish species (in total 17 species, including 15 commercial ones) is presented. The databank includes all species regulated by the Belgian Law (22 May 1996) on the use of official names for fishes and seafood products. It was found that interspecimen similarity of the IEF patterns, as processed by digitization, was always larger than interspecies similarity, which allows for unequivocal authentication of unknown samples, as long as the authentic pattern is available in the databank. The databank was used to authenticate 17 commercial fish fillets.  相似文献

We define and use a SOS-based framework to specify the transition systems of calculi with name-passing properties. This setting uses proof-theoretic tools to take care of some of the difficulties specific to name-binding and make them easier to handle in proofs. The contribution of this paper is the presentation of a format that ensures that open bisimilarity is a congruence for calculi specified within this framework, extending the well-known tyft/tyxt format to the case of name-binding and name-passing. We apply this result to the π-calculus in both its late and early semantics.  相似文献

The cation channel TRPM3 is activated by heat and the neurosteroid pregnenolone sulfate. TRPM3 is expressed on sensory neurons innervating the skin, where together with TRPV1 and TRPA1, it functions as one of three redundant sensors of acute heat. Moreover, functional upregulation of TRPM3 during inflammation contributes to heat hyperalgesia. The role of TRPM3 in sensory neurons innervating internal organs such as the bladder is currently unclear. Here, using retrograde labeling and single-molecule fluorescent RNA in situ hybridization, we demonstrate expression of mRNA encoding TRPM3 in a large subset of dorsal root ganglion (DRG) neurons innervating the mouse bladder, and confirm TRPM3 channel functionality in these neurons using Fura-2-based calcium imaging. After induction of cystitis by injection of cyclophosphamide, we observed a robust increase of the functional responses to agonists of TRPM3, TRPV1, and TRPA1 in bladder-innervating DRG neurons. Cystometry and voided spot analysis in control and cyclophosphamide-treated animals did not reveal differences between wild type and TRPM3-deficient mice, indicating that TRPM3 is not critical for normal voiding. We conclude that TRPM3 is functionally expressed in a large proportion of sensory bladder afferent, but its role in bladder sensation remains to be established.  相似文献

Conventionally, the mechanical strength of clinched connections is determined by a single shear lap test and/or a pull-out test. However, in most practical applications a combination of shear and pull-out is exerted on the clinched joint. This paper deals with the development of an Arcan-like device which enables to introduce various shear/tensile ratios in a clinched assembly. An experimental survey of the multi-axial behaviour of a non-cutting single-stroke round clinched connection of two DC05 sheets, which is mild deep drawing steel, is conducted with this modified Arcan setup. These experimental results are used to check the validity of numerical models that predict the strength under multi-axial loading. Since the forming of a clinch is a fairly complex sheet metal operation, a good knowledge of the plastic material properties and the frictional behaviour is of the utmost importance to perform a sufficiently accurate FEA simulation. The impact of these factors on the multi-axial loading behaviour of the DC05–DC05 connection is investigated.  相似文献

Incorporation of bioactive-containing fruits and/or vegetables into the carbohydrate-rich food matrix are effective strategies to develop food products with functional health benefits. In this study, blackcurrant powder was added into pea starch and mung bean starch to form pastes to investigate the effects of blackcurrant powder on physicochemical and nutritional properties of the starch pastes. The predictive in vitro glycaemic response of the pastes was highlighted by in vitro glycaemic glucose equivalent assay and alpha-amylase inhibitory activity assay. Both assays showed that blackcurrant powder attenuated (P < 0.05) reducing sugar released, through the inhibition of α-amylase. The colour profiles and textural properties of the pastes were modified by the additions of blackcurrant berry powder at different levels. Nutritional characteristics of the pastes, including total phenolic content and antioxidant activity, were significantly changed (P < 0.05) with the addition of blackcurrant powder.  相似文献
