The effects of liquid flow rate, packing size, surface tension and viscosity of irrigation liquid on the liquid spread factor are studied, and the values of the liquid spread factor are correlated for a wide range of packing size.The distribution of the liquid in a packed column is predicted by using a diffusional model with a new boundary condition. The boundary condition at the wall is based on the assumption that the penetration of the liquid into the wall takes place by the similar mechanism to the transport phenomena considering the dependence of the equilibrium wall flow rate on the liquid flow rate. The experimental results agree well with the theoretical ones for pure water and the surfactant solution. 相似文献

We developed a new method for a wind tunnel experiment to predict a visible plume region from a wet cooling tower. The diffusion of water vapor and heat emitted from a cooling tower in a wind tunnel is estimated using a tracer gas. The instantaneous concentration of the tracer gas is measured using high-response flame ionization detectors. A moist plume-induced fog is assumed to be generated whenever the instantaneous specific humidity predicted from the concentration of the tracer gas at measured points is larger than the inferred saturation specific humidity. To confirm the validity of the present method, the results in the wind tunnel experiments are roughly compared with the observations obtained at the mechanical-draft cooling tower of the Benning Road plant. The results show that the visible plume length and height are nearly in agreement with observations and the present method has the capability to predict the visible plume region from the cooling tower. 相似文献

SiC whiskers have been incorporated into Zn4Sb3 compound as reinforcements to overcome its extremely brittle nature. The bulk samples were prepared by either hot-extrusion or hot-pressing techniques. The obtained products containing 1 vol.% to 5 vol.% SiC whiskers were confirmed to exhibit sound appearance, high density, and fine-grained microstructure. Mechanical properties such as the hardness and fracture resistance were improved by the addition of SiC whiskers, as a result of dispersion strengthening and microstructural refinement induced by a pinning effect. Furthermore, crack deflection and/or bridging/pullout mechanisms are invoked by the whiskers. Regarding the thermoelectric properties, the Seebeck coefficient and electrical resistivity values comparable to those of the pure compound are retained over the entire range of added whisker amount. However, the thermal conductivity becomes large with increasing amount of SiC whiskers because of the much higher conductivity of SiC relative to the Zn4Sb3 matrix. This results in a remarkable degradation of the dimensionless figure of merit in the samples with addition of SiC whiskers. Therefore, the optimum amount of SiC whiskers in the Zn4Sb3 matrix should be determined by balancing the mechanical properties and thermoelectric performance. 相似文献

We investigated the effects of adipose-derived extract (AE) on cultured chondrocytes and in vivo cartilage destruction. AE was prepared from human adipose tissues using a nonenzymatic approach. Cultured human chondrocytes were stimulated with interleukin-1 beta (IL-1β) with or without different concentrations of AE. The effects of co-treatment with AE on intracellular signaling pathways and their downstream gene and protein expressions were examined using real-time PCR, Western blotting, and immunofluorescence staining. Rat AE prepared from inguinal adipose tissues was intra-articularly delivered to the knee joints of rats with experimental osteoarthritis (OA), and the effect of AE on cartilage destruction was evaluated histologically. In vitro, co-treatment with IL-1β combined with AE reduced activation of the p38 and ERK mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) pathway and nuclear translocation of the p65 subunit of nuclear factor-kappa B (NF-κB), and subsequently downregulated the expressions of matrix metalloproteinase (MMP)-1, MMP-3, MMP-13, a disintegrin and metalloproteinase with thrombospondin motifs (ADAMTS)-4, IL-6, and IL-8, whereas it markedly upregulated the expression of IL-1 receptor type 2 (IL-1R2) in chondrocytes. Intra-articular injection of homologous AE significantly ameliorated cartilage destruction six weeks postoperatively in the rat OA model. These results suggested that AE may exert a chondroprotective effect, at least in part, through modulation of the IL-1β-induced inflammatory signaling pathway by upregulation of IL-1R2 expression. 相似文献

In injection molding, the ejection forces decrease when the surface roughness of mold decreases. However, the ejection forces increase contrary in the area of surface roughness is less than 0.2 μmRa. A major factor in global warming is CO2 emission from thermal power plants, which burn fossil fuels. One technology proposed to prevent global warming is CO2 recovery from combustion flue gas and the sequestration of CO2 underground or near the ocean bed. Solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) can produce highly concentrated CO2, because the reformed fuel gas reacts with oxygen electrochemically without being mixed with air in the SOFC. We therefore propose to operate multi-staged SOFCs with high utilization of reformed fuel to obtain highly concentrated CO2. In this study, we estimated the performance of multi-staged SOFCs considering H2 diffusion and the combined cycle efficiency of a multi-staged SOFC/gas turbine/CO2 recovery power plant. The power generation efficiency of our CO2 recovery combined cycle is 68.5%, whereas the efficiency of a conventional SOFC/GT cycle with the CO2 recovery amine process is 57.8%. 相似文献

The ischemia–reperfusion injury (IRI) of rat kidneys is used as a model of acute kidney injury. Salt-sensitive hypertension occurs in rats after IRI, and the distal nephrons play important roles in the development of this condition. We investigated the role of the mineralocorticoid receptor (MR) in the progression of IRI-induced salt-sensitive hypertension in rats. Fourteen days after right-side nephrectomy, IRI was induced by clamping the left renal artery, with sham surgery performed as a control. IRI rats were provided with normal water or water with 1.0% NaCl (IRI/NaCl), or they were implanted with an osmotic mini-pump to infuse vehicle or aldosterone (IRI/Aldo). Esaxerenone, a non-steroidal MR blocker (MRB), was administered to IRI/NaCl and IRI/Aldo rats for 6 weeks. MR expression increased by day 7 post-IRI. Blood pressure and urinary protein excretion increased in IRI/NaCl and IRI/Aldo rats over the 6-week period, but these effects were negated by MRB administration. The MRB attenuated the expression of the gamma-epithelial sodium channel (ENaC) and renal damage. The ENaC inhibitor, amiloride, ameliorated hypertension and renal damage in IRI/NaCl and IRI/Aldo rats. Our findings thus showed that MR upregulation may play a pivotal role in ENaC-mediated sodium uptake in rats after IRI, resulting in the development of salt-sensitive hypertension in response to salt overload or the activation of the renin–angiotensin–aldosterone system. 相似文献

Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) are a potential therapeutic tool for preventing the progression of acute kidney injury (AKI) to chronic kidney disease (CKD). Herein, we investigated the localization and maintenance of engrafted human bone marrow-derived MSCs in rats subjected to a renal ischemia-reperfusion injury (IRI) and compared the effectiveness of two intravascular injection routes via the renal artery or inferior vena cava. Renal artery injection of MSCs was more effective than intravenous injection at reducing IRI-induced renal fibrosis. Additionally, MSCs injected through the renal artery persisted in injured kidneys for over 21 days, whereas MSCs injected through the inferior vena cava survived for less than 7 days. This difference may be attributed to the antifibrotic effects of MSCs. Interestingly, MSCs injected through the renal artery were localized primarily in glomeruli until day 3 post-IRI, and they decreased in number thereafter. In contrast, the number of MSCs localized in tubular walls, and the interstitium increased gradually until day 21 post-IRI. This localization change may be related to areas of damage caused by IRI because ischemia-induced AKI leads to tubular cell damage. Taken together, these findings suggest renal artery injection of MSCs may be useful for preventing the progression of AKI to CKD. 相似文献
