Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is a global pandemic that affects one-quarter of the world’s population. NAFLD includes a spectrum of progressive liver disease from steatosis to nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH), fibrosis, and cirrhosis and can be complicated by hepatocellular carcinoma. It is strongly associated with metabolic syndromes, obesity, and type 2 diabetes, and it has been shown that metabolic dysregulation is central to its pathogenesis. Recently, it has been suggested that metabolic- (dysfunction) associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD) is a more appropriate term to describe the disease than NAFLD, which puts increased emphasis on the important role of metabolic dysfunction in its pathogenesis. There is strong evidence that mitochondrial dysfunction plays a significant role in the development and progression of NAFLD. Impaired mitochondrial fatty acid oxidation and, more recently, a reduction in mitochondrial quality, have been suggested to play a major role in NAFLD development and progression. In this review, we provide an overview of our current understanding of NAFLD and highlight how mitochondrial dysfunction contributes to its pathogenesis in both animal models and human subjects. Further we discuss evidence that the modification of mitochondrial function modulates NAFLD and that targeting mitochondria is a promising new avenue for drug development to treat NAFLD/NASH.  相似文献

Local heat-transfer coefficients along a flat plate in natural convection in air were measured using Boelter-Schmidt type heat flux meters. Experiments were carried out for different temperature differences in heating and cooling, and with inclinations varying from the horizontal “facing upwards” position, through the vertical position, to the horizontal “facing downwards” position.

The results are presented in terms of local Nusselt number as a function of the local Grashof number “tangential component”. All runs were in the range accepted as that of laminar boundary layer flow. However, under certain conditions when the normal velocity component of the air is directed away from the surface, separated flow is indicated along the trailing part of the surface, well before turbulence sets in in the boundary layer. Separation starts at a certain point along the surface. This point is nearer to the leading edge the higher the temperature difference, and the larger the inclination of the surface to the vertical.

In a separation region, the flux density is uniform. In all other regions the results agreed closely with established theories of laminar boundary layer flow.

A leading adiabatic section, used in some of the experiments, did not affect the results. An appendix gives relations recommended for engineering calculations.  相似文献

High-gain observers have been used in non-linear control to estimate derivatives of the output. In this paper, we study discrete-time implementation of high-gain observers and their use as numerical differentiators, in noise-free as well as noisy measurements. We show that discretization using the bilinear transformation method gives better results than other discretization methods. We also show that many of the available numerical differentiators are special cases of the bilinear discrete-time equivalents of full-order or reduced-order high-gain observers.  相似文献

Keystream reuse, also known as the two time pad problem, is a well known weakness in stream ciphers. The implementers of the cryptographic algorithms are still underestimating this threat. The keystream reuse exploitation techniques presented so far assume the underlying plaintext to be textual data and all the heuristics presented previously are based on the language characteristics of the underlying text based data, which fail when compression is applied on the plaintext before encryption. This paper presents exploitation techniques for two time pads in case of stream ciphered digitized and compressed speech signals. In this paper we show that how an adversary can automatically recover the digitized speech signals encrypted under the same keystream provided the language (e.g. English) and digital encoding/compression scheme details of the underlying speech signals are known. Our technique of cryptanalysis is based on the modeling of the speech parameters by exploiting the inter frame correlations between each components of the speech vectors in different frames and then using these models to decode the two speech signals in the keystream reuse scenario. The technique is flexible enough to incorporate all modern speech coding schemes based on parameter or hybrid encoding and compression techniques. The simulation experiments have showed promising results for most of the present day speech digitization and compression techniques.  相似文献

This paper introduces a new algorithm for solving the localization problem of moving multiple disjoint sources using time difference of arrival and frequency difference of arrival. The localization of moving sources can be considered as a least-square problem. There are many algorithms used to solve this problem such as, two-step weighted least squares, constrained total least-square and practical constrained least-square. However, most of these algorithms suffer from either slow convergence or numerical instability and don’t attain Cramer–Rao lower bound. We introduce a free-gradient algorithm called cuckoo search which avoids the slow convergence problem. The cuckoo search provides a combined global and local search method. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm achieves better performance than other algorithms and attains Cramer–Rao lower bound.  相似文献

The concept of usage of heterogeneous networks (HetNets) is about improving the LTE system performance by increasing the capacity and coverage of the Macro cell. In this paper, a performance comparison of various packet scheduling algorithms such as Proportional Fair, Maximum Largest Weighted Delay First and Exponential/Proportional Fair is studied in detail in the HetNets environment. The key performance indicators such as throughput, packet loss ratio, delay and fairness are considered to judge the performance of the scheduling algorithms. Various strategies such as increasing the number of Pico cells in the cell edge were used in the simulation for the performance evaluation study. The results achieved through various simulations show that adding Pico cells to the existing Macros enhances the overall system performance in addition to the various scheduling algorithms implemented in Macros. For reader’s convenience, various types of graphs have been used to represent the simulation results to better understand the performance metrics of various scheduling algorithms. Simulation results shows that overall system gain has increased because of adding Picos and thereby providing better coverage in the cell edge areas and thereby increasing the capacity of the network to provide better quality of service.  相似文献

In this article, we will present a new set of hybrid polynomials and their corresponding moments, with a view to using them for the localization, compression and reconstruction of 2D and 3D images. These polynomials are formed from the Hahn and Krawtchouk polynomials. The process of calculating these is successfully stabilized using the modified recurrence relations with respect to the n order, the variable x and the symmetry property. The hybrid polynomial generation process is carried out in two forms: the first form contains the separable discrete orthogonal polynomials of Krawtchouk–Hahn (DKHP) and Hahn–Krawtchouk (DHKP). The latter are generated as the product of the discrete orthogonal Hahn and Krawtchouk polynomials, while the second form is the square equivalent of the first form, it consists of discrete squared Krawtchouk–Hahn polynomials (SKHP) and discrete polynomials of Hahn–Krawtchouk squared (SHKP). The experimental results clearly show the efficiency of hybrid moments based on hybrid polynomials in terms of localization property and computation time of 2D and 3D images compared to other types of moments; on the other hand, encouraging results have also been shown in terms of reconstruction quality and compression despite the superiority of classical polynomials.

CdS is one of the highly photosensitive candidate of II–VI group semiconductor material. Therefore CdS has variety of applications in optoelectronic devices. In this paper, we have fabricated CdS nanocrystalline thin film on ultrasonically cleaned glass substrates using the sol–gel spin coating method. The structural and surface morphologies of the CdS thin film were investigated by X-ray Diffraction (XRD) and Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscopy (FESEM) respectively. The surface morphology of thin films showed that the well covered substrate is without cracks, voids and hole. The round shape particle has been observed in SEM micrographs. The particles sizes of CdS nanocrystals from SEM were estimated to be~10–12 nm. Spectroscopic properties of thin films were investigated using the UV–vis spectroscopy, Photoluminescence and Raman spectroscopy. The optical band gap of the CdS thin film was estimated by UV–vis spectroscopy. The average transmittance of CdS thin film in the visible region of solar spectrum found to be~85%. Optical band gap of CdS thin film was calculated from transmittance spectrum ~2.71 eV which is higher than bulk CdS (2.40 eV) material. This confirms the blue shifting in band edge of CdS nanocrystalline thin films. PL spectrum of thin films showed that the fundamental band edge emission peak centred at 459 nm also recall as green band emission.  相似文献

First principles calculations have been performed within the framework of density functional theory to investigate the structural, electronic and thermodynamic properties of SrxCd1?xO ternary alloys. The exchange-correlation potential for structural properties was calculated by the standard local density approximation (LDA) and GGA (PBE), a more accurate nonempirical density functional generalized gradient approximation (GGA), as proposed by Wu and Cohen [Physical Review B 73 (2006) 235116], while for electronic properties, the Engel and Vosko GGA (EVGGA) and the modified Becke–Johnson (MBJ) of the exchange-correlation energy and potential, respectively, are used. Deviation of the lattice constants from Vegard's law and bulk modulus from linear concentration dependence (LCD) were observed for the ternary alloys. The MBJ band gaps values agree well with the available experimental results. In addition the thermodynamic stability of the alloys was investigated by calculating the critical temperatures of alloys.  相似文献
