Experimental confirmation of various grain scattering theories exist but there are still outstanding questions concerning the characterization of microstructure using ultrasound. In this study, high purity niobium serves as a model material devoid of extrinsic scattering centers (e.g., voids, precipitates, second phase particles etc.) A range of microstructures were obtained by annealing in ultrahigh vacuum at different temperatures (600–800°C) after routine cold-rolling and recrystallization heat treatment. Ultrasonic attenuation is measured as a function of a frequency for each sample. For the samples with an intermediate grain size (typically ∼50 μm), attenuation follows a power law dependence on frequency with an exponent of n∼1.6, which is close to the prediction, n=2, of classical Stochastic scattering theory. However, quantitative comparison shows that the observed attenuation is higher than predicted by the classical theory. The Stanke-Kino unified grain scattering theory may provide an explanation for the lower frequency dependence than traditional theories predict, though it still under predicts the magnitude of the attenuation. In any event, the resulting empirical relations provide a useful approach for practical grain size measurement with an acceptable level of uncertainty. The effect of a layered microstructure typical of some sheets/plates is discussed. 相似文献

In this study, poly(l ‐lactide) (PLA) is melt‐blended with thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) to modify the brittleness of PLA. An aliphatic ester‐based TPU was selected in order to have an ester sensitivity for degradation and an inherent biocompatibility. Using this compatible TPU, there was no need to apply problematic compatibilizers, so the main positive properties of PLA such as biocompatibility and degradability were not challenged. The detected microstructure of PLA/TPU blends showed that when the TPU content was lower than 25 wt %, the structure appeared as sea‐islands, but when the TPU content was increased, the morphology was converted to a cocontinuous microstructure. A higher interfacial surface area in the blend with 25 wt % TPU (PLA25) resulted in a higher toughness and abrasion resistance. The various analyses confirmed interactions and successful coupling of two phases and confirmed that melt‐blending of PLA with the aliphatic ester‐based TPU is a convenient, cost‐effective, and efficient method to conquer the brittleness of PLA. The prepared blends are general‐purpose plastics, but PLA25 showed an optimum mechanical strength, toughness, and biocompatibility suitable for a wide range of applications. © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Two types of chromium catalysts bearing pyridine and amine based SNS ligands under the title of (pyridine-SNS-alkyl/CrCl3) and (amine-SNS-alkyl/CrCl3) were synthesized. Different thiolates such as octyl, pentyl, butyl, cyclohexyl and cyclopentyl thiolates were reacted with 2,6-pyridine-dimethylene-ditosylate (PMT)/THF solution at room temperature. Then, the purified pyridine-based SNS ligands (1–5) were reacted with CrCl3 (THF)3 to obtain the pyridine-SNS-alkyl/CrCl3 catalysts (6–10) in 50–70% yields. MMAO-activated pyridine-SNS-alkyl/CrCl3 catalysts were capable of oligomerizing ethylene. Statistical experimental design was conducted using the central composite design method and surface methodology to study of the effect of important parameters such as ethylene pressure, Al/Cr ratio, catalyst concentration and the reaction temperature on 1-C6 productivity of catalyst (7). A quadratic polynomial equation was developed to predict the 1-C6 productivity. Ethylene oligomerization using the catalyst (7) was lead to a optimized reaction conditions, including the ethylene pressure of 19.5 bar, the temperature of 58.2 °C, the MMAO co-catalyst, Al/Cr?=?841 and the catalyst concentration of 8.7 µmol. The catalytic properties for ethylene oligomerization are strongly affected by reaction temperature. The experimental results indicated the reasonable agreement with the predicted values. The transformation from ethylene trimerization to ethylenev polymerization of catalyst system (7) was occurred by exchanging the reaction pressure. Influence of ligand structure with different substitutions on sulphur atom on productivity and selectivity was investigated. 1-C6 with the high selectivity and productivity 4318 (g 1-C6/g Cr h) was obtained for catalyst (7). In the second part, 1-C6 was obtained with high selectivity and productivity around 141?×?103 (g 1-C6/g Cr h) for amine-based catalyst. All amine-based catalysts (14–16) showed considerably higher catalytic activities compared to pyridine-based catalysts. According to the TGA analysis the thermal stability of pyridine-based catalysts was found to be higher than the amine-based catalysts. 相似文献

In both developing and industrialized/developed countries, various hazardous/toxic environmental pollutants are entering water bodies from organic and inorganic compounds (heavy metals and specifically dyes). The global population is growing whereas the accessibility of clean, potable and safe drinking water is decreasing, leading to world deterioration in human health and limitation of agricultural and/or economic development. Treatment of water/wastewater (mainly industrial water) via catalytic reduction/degradation of environmental pollutants is extremely critical and is a major concern/issue for public health. Light and/or laser ablation induced photocatalytic processes have attracted much attention during recent years for water treatment due to their good (photo)catalytic efficiencies in the reduction/degradation of organic/inorganic pollutants. Pulsed laser ablation (PLA) is a rather novel catalyst fabrication approach for the generation of nanostructures with special morphologies (nanoparticles (NPs), nanocrystals, nanocomposites, nanowires, etc.) and different compositions (metals, alloys, oxides, core-shell, etc.). Laser ablation in liquid (LAL) is generally considered a quickly growing approach for the synthesis and modification of nanomaterials for practical applications in diverse fields. LAL-synthesized nanomaterials have been identified as attractive nanocatalysts or valuable photocatalysts in (photo)catalytic reduction/degradation reactions. In this review, the laser ablation/irradiation strategies based on LAL are systematically described and the applications of LAL synthesized metal/metal oxide nanocatalysts with highly controlled nanostructures in the degradation/reduction of organic/inorganic water pollutants are highlighted along with their degradation/reduction mechanisms. 相似文献

Escherichia coli are remarkably versatile microorganisms and important members of the normal intestinal microbiota of humans and animals. This harmless commensal organism can acquire a mixture of comprehensive mobile genetic elements that contain genes encoding virulence factors, becoming an emerging human pathogen capable of causing a broad spectrum of intestinal and extraintestinal diseases. Nine definite enteric E. coli pathotypes have been well characterized, causing diseases ranging from various gastrointestinal disorders to urinary tract infections. These pathotypes employ many virulence factors and effectors subverting the functions of host cells to mediate their virulence and pathogenesis. This review summarizes new developments in our understanding of diverse virulence factors associated with encoding genes used by different pathotypes of enteric pathogenic E. coli to cause intestinal and extraintestinal diseases in humans. 相似文献

In this study, nickel oxide was prepared through the calcination of extrusion dripped chitosan/nickel nitrate beads. The morphology and structural properties of the products were studied using various characterization techniques. Uniformly distributed nickel oxide was formed as observed from the studies of surface morphology where the processing parameters play a huge role on the resulting morphology. TEM results have shown that nickel oxide with crystallite sizes of 10–30 nm was obtained. The Fourier‐transform infrared spectra studies show an intense peak at 525 cm?1, which is attributed to the vibration of Ni–O bond. Furthermore, the XRD results show NiO diffraction peaks correspond to (111), (200), (220), (311), and (222) which indicates that a bunsenite structure with a face‐centered cubic phase was produced in this study. The usage of 500°C as the lower limit in this study is justified due to the complete removal of the templating material as seen in the thermalgravimetric analysis studies. Furthermore, it was obtained that the largest surface area of nickel oxide synthesized using this technique is 48.024 m2/g with pore sizes of 19.843 nm. The usage of chitosan as a green template for the synthesis of nanoparticles has shown promising results which allows a more economical and sustainable approach for the fabrication of nanomaterials. 相似文献

This research presents the influence of Al addition on microstructure and mechanical behavior of ZrB2–SiC ultra-high temperature ceramic matrix composite (UHTCMC) fabricated by spark plasma sintering (SPS). A 2.5?wt% Al-doped ZrB2–20?vol% SiC UHTCMC was produced by SPS method at 1900?°C under a pressure of 40?MPa for 7?min. The microstructural and phase analysis of the composite showed that aluminum-containing compounds were formed in-situ during the SPS as a result of chemical reactions between Al and surface oxide films of the raw materials (i.e. ZrO2 and SiO2 on the surfaces of ZrB2 and SiC particles, respectively). The Al dopant was completely consumed and converted to the intermetallic Al3Zr and Al4Si compounds as well as Al2O3 and Al2SiO5. A relative density of 99.8%, a hardness (HV5) of 21.5?GPa and a fracture toughness (indentation method) of 6.3?MPa?m1/2 were estimated for the Al-doped ZrB2–SiC composite. In this work, the parameters of cobalt oxide suspension such as conductivity, zeta potential, particle size, stability, and finally the electrophoretic behavior of particles in the absence and presence of polyethylenimine (PEI) in acetone medium were investigated. Also, the effects of washing on the stability and electrophoretic deposition of Co3O4 were studied. Characterization of the obtained layer by optical microscopy revealed that there was no deposition in the suspension without PEI, while a uniform layer was formed in the presence of PEI additive. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) results confirmed the uniformity of layer obtained in acetone using PEI additive. Moreover, SEM results demonstrated that more porous microstructures were obtained at longer deposition durations. The difference in the porosity of the layers, as indicated by the SEM micrographs, is attributed to increase in the deposition time. 相似文献

This paper presents a novel learning approach for Face Recognition by introducing Optimal Local Basis. Optimal local bases
are a set of basis derived by reinforcement learning to represent the face space locally. The reinforcement signal is designed
to be correlated to the recognition accuracy. The optimal local bases are derived then by finding the most discriminant features
for different parts of the face space, which represents either different individuals or different expressions, orientations,
poses, illuminations, and other variants of the same individual. Therefore, unlike most of the existing approaches that solve
the recognition problem by using a single basis for all individuals, our proposed method benefits from local information by
incorporating different bases for its decision. We also introduce a novel classification scheme that uses reinforcement signal
to build a similarity measure in a non-metric space.
Experiments on AR, PIE, ORL and YALE databases indicate that the proposed method facilitates robust face recognition under
pose, illumination and expression variations. The performance of our method is compared with that of Eigenface, Fisherface,
Subclass Discriminant Analysis, and Random Subspace LDA methods as well. 相似文献
