This paper deals with the potential of coal fly ash as a heterogeneous catalyst in peroxidative decolorization of aqueous solution of several reactive drimarene dyes using hydrogen peroxide (H2O2). The effects of various parameters (source of fly ash, fly ash loading, temperature, pH, initial concentration of dye and hydrogen peroxide, and deactivation of catalytic effect of fly ash) were studied. The rate of decolorization is zero order with respect to concentration of dye in the range of 50–200 mg∕L and first order with respect to concentration of H2O2 in the range of 375–2,500 mg∕L. It was found that at 333 K and pH 2.0, only 2% (weight/volume) fly ash loading can completely decolorize 100 mg∕L dye solution within 180–1,770 s for an initial H2O2 concentration of 1,500 mg∕L, depending on the source of fly ash and dye used. But maximum 25% decolorization was noticed after 3 h duration of reaction without fly ash. The negligible homogeneous catalytic action of trace amount of metals like Fe, Mn, and Cu leached from the fly matrix confirmed the sole heterogeneous catalytic nature of fly ash particles in decolorization reactions. The deactivation of fly ash was found to be <30% in nine repeated uses. Adsorption dynamics and mechanism of dyes onto fly ash also were studied in the absence of H2O2.  相似文献

Irregular buildings behave differently as compared with regular buildings. Seismic design codes have quantified the irregularities in terms of magnitude only ignoring the effect of irregularity location. In the present study, a single parameter to quantify mass, stiffness and strength irregularity in terms of both magnitude and location is proposed on the basis of the dynamic characteristics of the building. Furthermore, building models with different types of irregularity with variation in magnitude and location of irregularity are analyzed by subjecting them to an ensemble of 27 ground motions to create a seismic response databank. In the analysis, the torsional effects generated due to irregularities in the building systems (as per EC 8:2004 provisions) are included. On the basis of regression analysis conducted on this seismic response databank, equations to estimate seismic response parameters such as fundamental period, maximum roof displacement and maximum inter‐story drift ratio etc. are proposed for the irregular buildings in terms of the proposed irregularity index. Finally, applicability of the proposed equations is discussed in brief, and these equations are validated for 2D and 3D building models. Copyright © 2012 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

The demand for new telecommunication services requiring higher capacities, data rates and different operating modes have motivated the development of new generation multi-standard wireless transceivers. In multi-standard design, sigma-delta based ADC is one of the most popular choices. To this end, in this paper we present cascaded 2-2-2 reconfigurable sigma-delta modulator that can handle GSM, WCDMA and WLAN standards. The modulator makes use of a low-distortion swing suppression topology which is highly suitable for wide band applications. In GSM mode, only the first stage (2nd order ∑-Δ ADC) is used to achieve a peak SNDR of 88dB with over-sampling ratio of 160 for a bandwidth of 200KHz and for WCDMA mode a 2-2 cascaded structure (4th order) is turned on with 1-bit in the first stage and 2-bit in the second stage to achieve 74 dB peak SNDR with over-sampling ratio of 16 for a bandwidth of 2MHz. Finally, a 2-2-2 cascaded MASH architecture with 4-bit in the last stage is proposed to achieve a peak SNDR of 58dB for WLAN for a bandwidth of 20MHz. The novelty lies in the fact that unused blocks of second and third stages can be made inactive to achieve low power consumption. The modulator is designed in TSMC 0.18um CMOS technology and operates at 1.8 supply voltage.  相似文献

The effect of Al doping on the J-V characteristics sol-gel derived of ZnO/p-Si photodiodes was investigated.The resistivity of Si was 0.1Ω·cm.ZnO films annealed at 500℃ were of the best quality.To investigate the spectral response of the photodiodes,the J-V characteristics were measured under different monochromatic lights at wavelength 420,530,570 and 630 nm.The diodes exhibit strong responsivity in the blue region at 420 nm.The responsivity is 0.22 A/W for Al doped (0.8 wt pct) photodiode,whereas for the undoped photodiode,it was much lower.An estimate of the responsivity as a function of wavelength has been made in terms of the width of depletion region of photodiodes.  相似文献

This paper introduces two robust forecasting models for efficient prediction of different exchange rates for future months ahead. These models employ Wilcoxon artificial neural network (WANN) and Wilcoxon functional link artificial neural network (WFLANN). The learning algorithms required to train the weights of these models are derived by minimizing a robust norm called Wilcoxon norm. These models offer robust exchange rate predictions in the sense that the training of weight parameters of these models are not influenced by outliers present in the training samples. The Wilcoxon norm considers the rank or position of an error value rather than its amplitude. Simulation based experiments have been conducted using real life data and the results indicate that both models, unlike conventional models, demonstrate consistently superior prediction performance under different densities of outliers present in the training samples. Further, comparison of performance between the two proposed models reveals that both provide almost identical performance but the later involved low computational complexity and hence is preferable over the WANN model.  相似文献

Bending-type microactuators less than 1 mm in length and comprising of two polypyrrole (PPy) layers separated by polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) membrane have previously been fabricated and was shown to operate both in air and aqueous media. The main limiting factor to increase the bending angle and to further miniaturise these actuators was the thickness of the commercially-available PVDF membrane used (~110 μm). In this study, we have synthesised a porous PVDF thin film with a thickness of 32 μm using a spin coating technique, and electrochemically deposited PPy layers on both sides of this thin film to make ultra thin film polymer actuators. The electromechanical and electrochemical properties are investigated and compared with those of the thicker actuator system using the commercially-available PVDF and under identical conditions. The thin film shows very promising performance compared to its thicker counterpart.  相似文献

Inspired by the structural similarity of gelatin (and collagen) linked to a mineral phase based on Ca-phosphates compounds with natural bone and increasing application of magnetic iron oxides in hyperthermia, gelatin coated iron oxide (GIO) was synthesized and hydroxyapatite (HAp) crystal nucleation and growth in the nanoparticles was explored. A series of GIO/HAp nanocomposites with various amount of GIO were synthesized by co-precipitation technique using calcium hydroxide and phosphoric acid as precursor. Various physico-chemical analysis showed that the HAp crystal nucleation and growth occurred at acidic group of gelatin, while magnetic iron oxide nanoparticles (< 8nm) were bound to the amide groups of the gelatin chain. Moreover, the growth of HAp nanocrystals in aq. GIO solution was highly influenced by the GIO contents in the solution. The mineralized composite with magnetic properties could have great scope in biomedical field as a thermoseed to kill the cancerous cell in bone side by side for the bone reinforcement.  相似文献
