The significance of this article lies in explaining the influence of Soret and Dufour numbers on an unsteady MHD free convection of flow of heat and mass transfer through porous media. The substances and radiation along the viscous, incompressible, and conductive compounds respond to the unstable convection of the liquid. Using physical quantities, the dimensional governing equations are converted to non-dimensional equations. Finite element Galerkin method is applied to numerically solve the resulting partial differential equations. Flow parameters on velocity, temperature, and concentration are studied and explained graphically to reflect their effects. Similarly, the skin friction number and Nusselt number are also observed and recorded in tables.  相似文献

Polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHAs) accumulating bacteria were isolated from activated sludge samples collected from municipal wastewater treatment plants in Quebec. Twelve bacterial strains were screened for PHA production with acetate as sole carbon source. PHA granules exhibited a strong orange fluorescence when stained with Nile blue A observed under microscope (X100x). PHA was also analyzed by Gas Chromatography Linked to Mass Spectroscopy (GCMS) to further confirm the presence and the concentration of PHA. To compare the abilities of these PHA accumulating bacterial strains, synthetic media with acetate as carbon source was prepared to accumulate PHA in 500 mL Erlenmeyer flask containing 150 of the medium. These flasks were then inoculated with the isolated bacterial strains, incubated at 25 degrees C for 48 hours in a rotary shaker at 220 rpm. The results showed that the bacterial strains isolated from sludge possess different abilities for accumulating PHA. The maximum PHA content of 27.50% was obtained by strain PHA-SB3. The PHB/PHV ratio of the copolymer produced in the study changed in accordance with operating time and strains.  相似文献

The recently developed transient plane source (TPS) technique has been applied for the simultaneous measurement of thermal conductivity and thermal diffusivity of two composite materials namely, marble and magnesium oxychloride cement in the range of temperatures from 30 to 150°C. The experimental results of these samples show that there is very slight variation in thermal conductivity and thermal diffusivity of these materials in this range of temperature. An effort has been made to express this variation of thermal conductivity and diffusivity with temperature by a linear relation, in these materials.  相似文献

PURPOSE: Studies suggest that alteration in steroid hormone levels may be one of the factors causing nonbacterial prostatitis (NBP) in rats. We hypothesized that hormonally induced prostatitis in the rat may be an autoimmune disease. Studies were carried out to prove this hypothesis. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We injected 17 beta-estradiol (E2; 250 micrograms/kg. subcutaneously) or vehicle into 1-year-old male rats for 30 days, and isolated and cultured the splenocytes in the presence of con-A (Experiment 1). Approximately 10(7) splenocytes were adoptively transferred into young naive syngeneic rats. To find out whether or not the inflammation is mediated by T-lymphocytes, a pure population of T-lymphocytes from E2-treated 3-month-old rats was injected into young naive syngeneic rats (Experiment 2). To rule out the possibility that the inflammation was due to con-A itself, we cross-linked some T-cells with anti-CD3 antibody before adoptive transfer (Experiment 2). RESULTS: The recipients of splenocytes from E2-treated animals presented evidence of inflammation in terms of lymphocytic infiltration and presence of degranulated mast cells. Furthermore, we observed in these animals an increase in histamine-releasing peptide (HRP) levels, an indication of plasma extravasation. The T-cells stimulated by anti-CD3 antibody produced a similar degree of inflammation, thereby ruling out the possibility that the inflammation was due to con-A. The results also indicated that the immune response to antigen(s) is not dependent on the age of the animal but is dependent on a population of CD3+ T-cells. CONCLUSION: Our results demonstrate that hormonal imbalance and autoimmunity in male rats produce the symptoms of nonbacterial prostatitis.  相似文献

Poly(p-phenylene) (PPP) was prepared by polymerization of benzene and was exactly purified from oligomers and the catalyst. IR spectra of the resulting material indicated only para substitution and a DP about 20. PPP is a polycrystalline substance with a small degree of crystallinity and is thermally resistant up to 798 K. The annealing of pristine polymer produced a material with higher crystallinity and crystallite size. In our investigations we examined the electrical properties of doped (AlCl3) and undoped PPP at different temperatures. The mechanism of conductivity is explained assuming the existence of the Schottky barriers between polycrystalline grains and intergrain regions. The WAXS and ESR data are compared with the electrical results.  相似文献

A collective communication library for parallel computers includes frequently used operations such as broadcast, reduce, scatter, gather, concatenate, synchronize, and shift. Such a library provides users with a convenient programming interface, efficient communication operations, and the advantage of portability. A library of this nature, the Collective Communication Library (CCL), intended for the line of scalable parallel computer products by IBM, has been designed. CCL is part of the parallel application programming interface of the recently announced IBM 9076 Scalable POWERparallel System 1 (SP1). In this paper, we examine several issues related to the functionality, correctness, and performance of a portable collective communication library while focusing on three novel aspects in the design and implementation of CCL: 1) the introduction of process groups, 2) the definition of semantics that ensures correctness, and 3) the design of new and tunable algorithms based on a realistic point-to-point communication model  相似文献
