Medical hydrogels based on bioactive compounds. Synthesis,properties, and possible application for preparing bactericidal materials

Several physicochemical analytical methods were used to study aqueous solutions and hydrogels based on L-cysteine and silver nitrate. It was found that anions played a decisive role in forming the threedimensional gel-network in dilute silver-cysteine solutions. The ability to use silver-cysteine solutions and hydrogels to prepare bactericidal fibers and fabrics was examined.     

Effect of thermal aging on the defectiveness of thermostable aromatic arimid and togilen fibres

The effect of thermal aging in air on the defectiveness of thermostable heteroaromatic Arimid-T and Togilen fibres was investigated based on the change in the scale dependences and coefficients of variation of the breaking characteristics: strength, elongation at break, and arbitrary deformation energy to break. The change in the scale dependences and scale coefficients of the deformation characteristics (elongation and deformation energy to break) more significantly and objectively reflect the increase in the defectiveness of thermostable fibres during thermal aging than the change in the scale dependences and scale coefficients of the strength and the coefficients of variation of the breaking characteristics. In thermal aging, the change in the defectiveness of Arimid-T fibres is smaller than for Togilen fibres. The data obtained indicate the elevated workability of thermostable heteroaromatic fibres at temperatures of 300°C: 300 h and more for Arimid-T fibres and up to 100 h for Togilen fibres.St. Petersburg State University of Design and Technology. Statistical Dispersion Model to Describe the Processes in a Homogenizer of the “Liquid–Liquid”-Type

A physicomathematical model of dispersion and homogenization in a liquid–liquid medium which is based on the system of equations for the probability density of the size of disperse particles has been developed. The proposed model takes into account the processes of turbulent atomization and cavitation reduction in size and the process of coalescence of the dispersed-phase drops.     

Sintering and some properties of compositions in the Al2O3-Al2TiO5 system with additions of amorphous silica

Conclusions We studied the effect of addtions of amorphous silica in amounts of 6–11% on the properties of compositions in the Al₂O₃-Al₂TiO₅ system.The presence of SiO₂ enables us to obtain, at reduced firing temperatures (1580°C), adequately dense (P_open=3–4%) compositions while preserving the high thermal-shock resistance and compressive strength at 1050°C (360–420 MPa).Translated from Ogneupory, No. 8, pp. 19–20, August, 1986.
