Magnetically modified spent coffee grounds for dyes removal   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
Large amounts of spent coffee grounds are discharged from food industries, for example, during the instant coffee manufacture. Although part of them is reused as compost and animal feed, most of the coffee grounds are burned as a waste. However, this material can be used as a biosorbent for xenobiotics removal. Spent coffee grounds were magnetically modified by contact with water-based magnetic fluid. This new type of magnetically responsive biocomposite materials can be easily separated by means of commercially available magnetic separators or strong permanent magnets. Magnetic coffee grounds can be used as an inexpensive magnetic adsorbent for the removal of water-soluble dyes. Seven dyes (crystal violet, malachite green, amido black 10B, Congo red, Bismarck brown Y, acridine orange and safranin O) were used to study the adsorption process. The dyes adsorption could be described with the Langmuir isotherm. The maximum adsorption capacities reached the value 73.4 mg of dye per g of dried magnetically modified coffee grounds for acridine orange; it corresponds to 276.6 μmol g−1. This adsorbent can also be used for magnetic solid-phase extraction of crystal violet from extremely diluted solutions. To conclude, magnetic modification of spent coffee grounds resulted in the formation of a new, promising adsorbent for selected xenobiotics removal.  相似文献

The performance of the novel “ductless” personalized ventilation in conjunction with displacement ventilation (DV) was compared with the performance of DV alone under realistic conditions involving disturbances due to walking of one or two persons. An office room with two workstations was arranged in a full-scale test room. Two thermal manikins were used as sedentary occupants at the workstations. Two pollution sources, namely exhaled air by one of the manikins and passive pollution on the table in front of the same manikin were simulated. The performance of the ventilation systems was evaluated with regard to the quality of inhaled air and thermal comfort of the seated “occupants”. The walking person(s) caused mixing of the clean and cool air near the floor with the polluted and warmer air at higher levels and disturbed the displacement principle which resulted in a decrease of the inhaled air quality. The performance of the “ductless” PV under the tested conditions was better as opposed to DV alone. Thus in practice the “ductless” PV will be superior to DV alone as regards perceived quality of inhaled air. The location of a walking person was found to be important. Person(s) walking close to the displacement diffuser will cause greater disturbance.  相似文献

The lizards of the species-rich clade Scincoidea including cordylids, gerrhosaurids, skinks, and xantusiids, show an almost cosmopolitan geographical distribution and a remarkable ecological and morphological divergence. However, previous studies revealed limited variability in cytogenetic traits. The sex determination mode was revealed only in a handful of gerrhosaurid, skink, and xantusiid species, which demonstrated either ZZ/ZW or XX/XY sex chromosomes. In this study, we explored the karyotypes of six species of skinks, two species of cordylids, and one gerrhosaurid. We applied conventional and molecular cytogenetic methods, including C-banding, fluorescence in situ hybridization with probes specific for telomeric motifs and rDNA loci, and comparative genomic hybridization. The diploid chromosome numbers are rather conserved among these species, but the chromosome morphology, the presence of interstitial telomeric sequences, and the topology of rDNA loci vary significantly. Notably, XX/XY sex chromosomes were identified only in Tiliqua scincoides, where, in contrast to the X chromosome, the Y chromosome lacks accumulations of rDNA loci. We confirm that within the lizards of the scincoidean clade, sex chromosomes remained in a generally poor stage of differentiation.  相似文献

The current work presents a pivotal study of the nanogelation of the linear poly(N5-2-hydroxypropyl-L-glutamine) polymer precursor containing tyramine (TYR) units in an inverse miniemulsion by horseradish peroxidase/H2O2-mediated crosslinking. The effects of various nH2O2/nTYR ratios on the kinetics of nanogelation in the inverse miniemulsion and on the reaction time are investigated by linear sweep voltammetry, while the formation of dityramine crosslinking is explored by fluorescence spectroscopy. The study is completed using dynamic light scattering measurements, nanoparticle tracking analysis, and cryogenic transmission electron microscopy to acquire comprehensive information about the formed nanoparticulate systems. With the optimal ratio nH2O2/nTYR = 2, the strategy yields in the high-quality ~ 130 nm poly(amino acid)-based nanogel, which is prepared in 2 h. The nanogel is colloidally stable under different temperature and pH conditions for over 168 h. Moreover, the demonstrated nanogel is noncytotoxic for HeLa cells and human primary fibroblasts and is quickly enzymatically hydrolyzed into small fragments during a biodegradation study in human blood plasma. © 2019 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Computation of trajectories for ligand binding and unbinding via protein tunnels and channels is important for predicting possible protein–ligand interactions. These highly complex processes can be simulated by several software tools, which provide biochemists with valuable information for drug design or protein engineering applications. This paper focuses on aiding this exploration process by introducing the DockVis visual analysis tool. DockVis operates with the multivariate output data from one of the latest available tools for the prediction of ligand transport, CaverDock. DockVis provides the users with several linked views, combining the 2D abstracted depictions of ligands and their surroundings and properties with the 3D view. In this way, we enable the users to perceive the spatial configurations of ligand passing through the protein tunnel. The users are initially visually directed to the most relevant parts of ligand trajectories, which can be then explored in higher detail by the follow-up analyses. DockVis was designed in tight collaboration with protein engineers developing the CaverDock tool. However, the concept of DockVis can be extended to any other tool predicting ligand pathways by the molecular docking. DockVis will be made available to the wide user community as part of the Caver Analyst 3.0 software package ( www.caver.cz ).  相似文献

In angiosperms, the mature seed consists of embryo, endosperm, and a maternal plant-derived seed coat (SC). The SC plays a role in seed filling, protects the embryo, mediates dormancy and germination, and facilitates the dispersal of seeds. SC properties have been modified during the domestication process, resulting in the removal of dormancy, mediated by SC impermeability. This study compares the SC anatomy and histochemistry of two wild (JI64 and JI1794) and two domesticated (cv. Cameor and JI92) pea genotypes. Histochemical staining of five developmental stages: 13, 21, 27, 30 days after anthesis (DAA), and mature dry seeds revealed clear differences between both pea types. SC thickness is established early in the development (13 DAA) and is primarily governed by macrosclereid cells. Polyanionic staining by Ruthenium Red indicated non homogeneity of the SC, with a strong signal in the hilum, the micropyle, and the upper parts of the macrosclereids. High peroxidase activity was detected in both wild and cultivated genotypes and increased over the development peaking prior to desiccation. The detailed knowledge of SC anatomy is important for any molecular or biochemical studies, including gene expression and proteomic analysis, especially when comparing different genotypes and treatments. Analysis is useful for other crop-to-wild-progenitor comparisons of economically important legume crops.  相似文献

This study is focused on the use of glyceryl behenate as a lipophilic excipient of matrix tablets providing controlled drug release. The aim of this study is to evaluate activation energy (EA) and changes of the thermodynamic parameters (ΔH, ΔS, ΔG) of a dissolution process. These values, which have not yet been published, can lead to better understanding of a drug release mechanism and can extend the use options of glyceryl behenate in the pharmaceutical industry. Values of ΔH, ΔS, ΔG and EA, providing an overall thermodynamic view on the studied matrix tablets, are evaluated based on the temperature-dependences of the release rate constant of a model drug (temperature range 25 - 45 °C). The studied lipophilic matrix tablets contain 10% to 50% of glyceryl behenate. Dissolution testing is carried out in an aqueous solution of HCl with addition of NaCl (pH1.2). Positive values of ΔH in the range of 3.83 to 56.13 kJ mol-1 and positive values of ΔG indicate that the dissolution of the studied glyceryl behenate matrix tablets is an endothermic process which does not proceed spontaneously (in a temperature range of 25 - 45 °C). The negative slope of the linear curves of enthalpy-entropy compensation confirms the entropy-driven dissolution. Practical Applications : A better understanding of the dissolution process is an important aspect, e.g., in the field of drug formulation strategy. In this study, it is confirmed that the influence of temperature on the model drug release rate is negligible for tablets containing more than 40% of glyceryl behenate. It is an important result for drug design due to the reduction of risk of a possible dose dumping effect induced by temperature and the prevention of in vivo therapeutic failure.  相似文献

In the year 2010, effluents from 90 European wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) were analyzed for 156 polar organic chemical contaminants. The analyses were complemented by effect-based monitoring approaches aiming at estrogenicity and dioxin-like toxicity analyzed by in vitro reporter gene bioassays, and yeast and diatom culture acute toxicity optical bioassays. Analyses of organic substances were performed by solid-phase extraction (SPE) or liquid–liquid extraction (LLE) followed by liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS-MS) or gas chromatography high-resolution mass spectrometry (GC-HRMS). Target microcontaminants were pharmaceuticals and personal care products (PPCPs), veterinary (antibiotic) drugs, perfluoroalkyl substances (PFASs), organophosphate ester flame retardants, pesticides (and some metabolites), industrial chemicals such as benzotriazoles (corrosion inhibitors), iodinated x-ray contrast agents, and gadolinium magnetic resonance imaging agents; in addition biological endpoints were measured. The obtained results show the presence of 125 substances (80% of the target compounds) in European wastewater effluents, in concentrations ranging from low nanograms to milligrams per liter. These results allow for an estimation to be made of a European median level for the chemicals investigated in WWTP effluents. The most relevant compounds in the effluent waters with the highest median concentration levels were the artificial sweeteners acesulfame and sucralose, benzotriazoles (corrosion inhibitors), several organophosphate ester flame retardants and plasticizers (e.g. tris(2-chloroisopropyl)phosphate; TCPP), pharmaceutical compounds such as carbamazepine, tramadol, telmisartan, venlafaxine, irbesartan, fluconazole, oxazepam, fexofenadine, diclofenac, citalopram, codeine, bisoprolol, eprosartan, the antibiotics trimethoprim, ciprofloxacine, sulfamethoxazole, and clindamycine, the insect repellent N,N′-diethyltoluamide (DEET), the pesticides MCPA and mecoprop, perfluoroalkyl substances (such as PFOS and PFOA), caffeine, and gadolinium.  相似文献
