Abstract

The success of the testing of volatile organic compounds emitted by animals is dependent on the creation of appropriate conditions for air sampling subsequently used to assay and identify the compounds. These conditions play a particularly important role in the investigation of pheromones, which are secreted in extremely low concentrations. The authors have not come across any previous work which offers constructional solutions, which would allow avoidance of contamination of the air samples containing volatile substances secreted by animals.

A constructional solution was developed, which provides optimal conditions for their sampling and isolation. Its main advantages are as follows: the exposure chamber (the chamber in which the animal is studied) is filled with synthetic air; the exposure chamber is separated from the atmospheric air with a synthetic air “jacket”; the exposure chamber has been constructed using materials which do not release chemicals and absorb them in trace quantities.  相似文献

This paper considers methods for knowledge exploitation in security policies for Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) environments, discovering the modality conflicts in particular. Two algorithms for discovering SOA-specific modality conflicts are proposed. First, a trivial (ad-hoc) approach is presented and further extended by the improved algorithm which offers lower time complexity. The formal verification of the proposal is followed by experimental results confirming the expected supremacy of the improved algorithm.  相似文献

The paper is concerned with systematic studies on the formation of overlay coatings on nickel and iron base superalloys to improve their resistance against high temperature oxidation and hot corrosion. In contrast to the simpler case of aluminizing nickel base alloys, the problems arising in aluminizing iron base superalloys and in siliconizing nickel base alloys have not yet been solved.A new and economical coating procedure is presented, which involves a reaction sintering process of unalloyed powder mixtures to obtain overlay coatings. The influence of the compositions of the layer and the substrate on the chemical compatibility of the whole layer composite is described in detail. It is shown that overlay coatings containing high concentrations of silicon can only be applied on nickel base superalloys if elements that are able spontaneously to form reaction barriers are present within the substrate alloy (e.g. aluminium) or in the as-preformed interlayer. Refractory metals have proved to be the most advantageous.To obtain a ductile coating, silicon-rich donor phases in the form of isolated precipitates were incorporated into a matrix containing low concentrations of silicon. These coating systems can also be applied to improve the aluminization of iron base alloys. The high temperature oxidation and corrosion behaviours of the coated samples were tested in burner gas or air at 1000°C and in molten salts at 900°C.  相似文献

This paper describes a new multi-heterojunction n +pp photovoltaic infrared photodetector. The device has been developed specifically for operation at temperatures of 200–300K in the long wavelength (8–14 μm) range of the infrared spectrum. The new structure solves the perennial problems of poor quantum efficiency and low dynamic resistance found in conventional long wavelength infrared photovoltaic detectors when operated near room temperature. Computer simulations show that devices with properly optimized multiple heterojunctions are capable of achieving the performance limits imposed by the statistical nature of thermal generation-recombination processes. In order to demonstrate the technology, multiple heterojunction devices have been fabricated on epilayers grown by isothermal vapor phase epitaxy of HgCdTe and in situ As p-type doping. The detector structures were formed using a combination of conventional dry etching, angled ion milling, and angled thermal evaporation for contact metal deposition. These multi-junction n +pp HgCdTe heterostructure devices exhibit performances which make them useful for many applications. D* of optically immersed multiple heterostructure photovoltaic detectors exceeding 108cmHz1/2/W were measured at λ=10.6 μm and T=300K.  相似文献

The functionally important NF-κB1 promoter polymorphism (−94ins/delATTG) significantly shapes inflammation and impacts the outcome of sepsis. However, exploratory studies elucidating the molecular link of this genotype-dependent pattern are lacking. Accordingly, we analyzed lipopolysaccharide-stimulated peripheral blood mononuclear cells from both healthy volunteers (n = 20) and septic patients (n = 10). All individuals were genotyped for the −94ins/delATTG NF-κB1 promoter polymorphism. We found a diminished nuclear activity of the NF-κB subunit p50 in ID/DD genotypes after 48 h of lipopolysaccharide stimulation compared to II genotypes (p = 0.025). This was associated with higher TNF-α (p = 0.005) and interleukin 6 concentrations (p = 0.014) and an increased production of mitochondrial radical oxygen species in ID/DD genotypes (p = 0.001). Although ID/DD genotypes showed enhanced activation of mitochondrial biogenesis, they still had a significantly diminished cellular ATP content (p = 0.046) and lower mtDNA copy numbers (p = 0.010) compared to II genotypes. Strikingly, these findings were mirrored in peripheral blood mononuclear cells taken from septic patients. Our results emphasize the crucial aspect of considering NF-κB subunits in sepsis. We showed here that the deletion allele of the NF-κB1 (−94ins/delATTG) polymorphism was associated with the lower nuclear activity of subunit p50, which, in turn, was associated with aggravated inflammation and mitochondrial dysfunction.  相似文献
