This paper presents an inverse scattering problem for recovering the shapes of multiple conducting cylinders with the immersed targets in a half‐space by genetic algorithm. Two separate perfectly conducting cylinders of unknown shapes are buried in one half‐space and illuminated by transverse magnetic (TM) plane wave from the other half‐space. Based on the boundary condition and the measured scattered field, a set of nonlinear integral equations are derived, and the electromagnetic imaging problem is reformulated into an optimization problem. The improved steady state genetic algorithm is used to find out the global extreme solution. Numerical results are given to demonstrate the performance of the inverse algorithm. Good reconstruction can be obtained even when the initial guesses are far different from the exact shapes, and then the multiple scattered fields between two conductors are serious. In addition, the effect of Gaussian noise on the reconstruction is investigated. We can find that the effect of noise is negligible for the normalized standard deviations below 0.01. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. This paper describes the mechanism of formation of bubbles of nitrogen in water containing Tween 20 as a surfactant, and of droplets of water in hexadecane containing Span 80 as a surfactant. The study of these microfluidic systems compares two or four flow-focusing generators coupled through shared inlets, supplying the continuous phase, and through a common outlet channel. The processes that form bubbles in neighboring generators interact for a wide range of flow parameters; the formation of bubbles alternates in time and space, and the bubbles assemble into complex patterns in the outlet channel. The dynamics of formation of bubbles in these systems are stable for long time (at least 10 min). For a certain range of flow parameters, the coupled flow-focusing generators exhibit two stable modes of operation for a single set of flow parameters. The dynamics of formation of droplets of water in hexadecane by the coupled flow-focusing generators are simpler--the adjacent generators produce only monodisperse droplets over the entire range of flow parameters that are explored. These observations suggest that the mechanism of interaction between coupled flow-focusing generators relies on the compressibility of the dispersed phase (e.g., the gas or liquid), and on variations in pressure at the flow-focusing orifices induced by the breakup of bubbles or droplets. 相似文献

Several photoredox pairs containing mono- and bicationic hemicyanine dyes have been evaluated as photoinitiators for free radical polymerization induced with an argon-ion laser irradiation. The tested photoredox couples are the pairs composed of the hemicyanine dye cations acting as electron acceptors and n-butyltriphenyl borate anions being the electron donors. The photoinitiating abilities of the series of monochromophoric stilbazolium borates, 4-(p-N,N-dialkylaminostyryl)quinolinium n-butyltriphenylborate, were compared to the photochemistry of structurally related, bicationic styrylquinolinium borates. The obtained results clearly documented that the dicationic photoinitiators exhibit a marked increase in the photoinitiation ability compared to the initiators consisting of a single charged hemicyanine dye.Our studies revealed also that the rate of photopolymerization depends on ΔGel of electron transfer between borate anion and styrylquinolinium cation. The relationship between the rate of polymerization and the free energy of activation shows the dependence predicted by the classical theory of electron transfer. 相似文献

BACKGROUND: Care is increasingly being recognized as a crucial input to child health and nutrition, along with food security, availability of health services, and a healthy environment. Although significant gains have been made in the fight against malnutrition in Tanzania, the nutritional status of preschool children in urban areas is not improving. OBJECTIVE: To assess child-care practices and the nutritional status of infants and young children with the aim of improvingfeeding practices and child nutritional status. METHODS: A cross-sectional study was undertaken in urban Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania. The study involved 100 randomly selected mothers of children 6 to 24 months old from households in Ilala Municipality, one of the three municipalities that constitute the Dar-es-Salaam City Council. Data were collected by a structured questionnaire, spot-check observations, and anthropometric measurements. RESULTS: The prevalence rates of stunting, underweight, wasting, and morbidity were 43%, 22%, 3%, and 80%, respectively. The prevalence of exclusive breastfeeding was very low (9%), and most stunted children (88%) were not exclusively breastfed for the first 6 months. The mean age at which complementary foods and fluids were introduced was 3.26 +/- 1.12 months (range, 1 to 5 months). The fluids given were mainly water and thin cereal-based porridge. More than half of the households practiced good hygiene. Most of the psychosocial practices (e.g., caregiver's attention, affection, and involvement in child feeding, hygiene, health care, and training) were performed by mothers, except for cooking and feeding the children and child training, which were done mostly by alternative caregivers. Nearly half of the mothers (44%) worked out of the home. The mean number of working hours per day was long (10.32 +/- 2.13), necessitating the use of alternative caregivers. A negative correlation was found between height-for-age z-scores and the number of hours mothers worked outside the home. CONCLUSIONS: The prevalence rates of chronic malnutrition and morbidity are high, and child-feeding practices are inadequate in this urban population. Maternal employment and educational characteristics constrain good child-care practices, and alternative caregivers are taking a more important role in child care as mothers join the work force. We recommend that formative research be conducted to study the actual practices of caregivers in order to form the basis for a child-care education program. There is also a need to strengthen national health system support for improved child feeding. 相似文献

The paper presents new criteria for calculation of heat transfer coefficients and flow resistance during boiling inside vertical tubes with spring inserts, developed on the basis of own experimental research. Calculations of the geometric parameters of the spring insert were carried out using the Nelder-Mead optimization method for various optimization criteria (maximizing the increase ratios for heat transfer coefficient and flow resistance, minimizing entropy, own optimization criterion). The effect of onion and garlic on the formation of two cholesterol oxidation products (COPs): 7-ketocholesterol and 7-hydroxycholesterol was evaluated by comparing their concentrations in meat and gravy samples obtained from three pork dishes prepared in the presence and absence of these flavourings. The concentration of these compounds in meat samples was between 82.4 and 1331.6 ng/g of cooked meat. Gravies contained lower amounts: from 18.3 to 45.6 ng/g of cooked meat. The addition of onion (30 g/100 g of meat) caused a decrease in 7-ketocholesterol and 7-hydroxycholesterol concentrations in all of the investigated pork dishes by 9.5–79%, whilst the addition of 15 g of garlic to 100 g of meat lowered the concentration by 17 to 88%. The greatest decrease was found in grilled minced chops. The quantitative assessment of 7-ketocholesterol and 7-hydroxycholesterol was carried out by thin-layer chromatography with densitometric detection. 相似文献

The aim of this study was to determine the nutritional value of organic milk in Poland, investigate the influence of diet on antioxidant capacity and degree of antioxidant protection (DAP), and to examine the effect of season on the bioactive properties of milk from organic farms. From 2014 to 2015, 820 milk samples were collected from 6 organic farms during indoor feeding season (IDS) and pasture feeding season (PS). Pasture feeding season + corn grain (PSCG) cows’ daily ration during pasture feeding season was enriched with 4 kg a day of corn to improve dietary energy balance. Milk obtained during PS was found to have a higher fat content, slight but significantly lower protein content compared with milk from IDS. The study showed that the content of monounsaturated fatty acids (MUFA) in milk fat was strongly linked to the concentration of polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) and, to a lesser extent, on the supply of MUFA. The IDS data (concentration of vitamin E, A, and β‐carotene) showed the lowest values compared with the PS and PSCG groups. Total antioxidant status (TAS) and DAP showed an increasing trend in organic milk. PSCG was associated with highest level of DAP (9% higher than PS and 79% higher than IDS) and TAS (37% higher than PS and 79% higher than IDS). The results obtained show that supplementation of the basic ration with corn grain improved both TAS and DAP. The higher DAP and TAS value is responsible for product stability, considering the risk factor related to levels of cholesterol‐oxide intake in humans. 相似文献

Meat, fish, and seafood are animal products that can be found in various forms in the human diet. In Western culture, there are trends to reduce meat consumption. This work was created to assess how various factors influence the fact that we like to eat meat, fish, and seafood. Exploring these relationships will contribute to our understanding of why dietary interventions for the above foods may be so difficult to implement in some groups of people. Two hundred eighty-three people living in Poland took part in the study. An interview and olfactory tests were conducted together with assessments of food preferences from 25 types of food products. The extent to which sex, age, body mass index, tobacco addiction, and sense of smell influence ‘meat, fish and seafood’ consumption was assessed. Using the factor analysis, a coherent group of ‘meat, fish and seafood’ products was selected: beef, pork, veal, cured meats, poultry, fish dishes, and seafood. ‘Meat, fish and seafood’ was liked more by men, compared to women (B = .85; CI = .60, 1.10; t = 6.66, η2 = .14; p < .001), whereas other factors did not affect the preference of dishes from this group as a whole. A detailed analysis of each type of food separately showed, however, that not only is gender important, but fish is liked more by older people, and cured meats by people who identify odors more efficiently. When planning a diet change, including the products mentioned above, we should consider the sex and age of the person to whom the diet is addressed, because men declare a higher derived pleasure from eating various types of meat, fish, and seafood than women, while older people like fish more. 相似文献

Robust and versatile strategies for the development of functional nanostructured materials often focus on assemblies of metallic nanoparticles. Research interest in such assemblies arises due to their potential applications in the fields of photonics and sensing. Metallic nanoparticles have received considerable recent attention due to their connection to the widely studied phenomenon of localized surface plasmon resonance. For instance, plasmonic hot spots can be observed within their assemblies. A useful form of spectroscopy is based on surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS). This phenomenon is a commonly used in sensing techniques, and it works using the principle that scattered inelastic light can be greatly enhanced at a surface. However, further research is required to enable improvements to the SERS techniques. For example, one question that remains open is how to design uniform, highly reproducible, and efficiently enhancing substrates of metallic nanoparticles with high structural precision. In this review, a general overview on nanoparticle functionalization and the impact on nanoparticle assembly is provided, alongside an examination of their applications in surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy. 相似文献
