In this review a new approach to the food aroma analysis using various instrumental techniques is described. In the last decade extensive studies have been performed concerning aroma profiles (called in this article ‘aromagrams’) of food products and beverages. Aromagram is characteristic or even individual fingerprint of the odour, obtained usually by chromatographic methods or electronic nose. Basing on the fact that each product has its own unique pattern of volatile components, it is possible to get desired information about organoleptic quality and health safety of the product by qualitative and quantitative comparison of aromagrams of different foodstuffs. Appearance of aromagrams and their usefulness depend on the assay method, particularly on the extraction step. The paper reviews the methods developed to analyse volatiles in food products basing upon their aroma profiles.  相似文献

Due to strong antimicrobial properties, silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) are used in a wide range of medical and consumer products, including those dedicated for infants and children. While AgNPs are known to exert neurotoxic effects, current knowledge concerning their impact on the developing brain is scarce. During investigations of mechanisms of neurotoxicity in immature rats, we studied the influence of AgNPs on glutamate transporter systems which are involved in regulation of extracellular concentration of glutamate, an excitotoxic amino acid, and compared it with positive control—Ag citrate. We identified significant deposition of AgNPs in brain tissue of exposed rats over the post-exposure time. Ultrastructural alterations in endoplasmic reticulum (ER) and Golgi complexes were observed in neurons of AgNP-exposed rats, which are characteristics of ER stress. These changes presumably underlie substantial long-lasting downregulation of neuronal glutamate transporter EAAC1, which was noted in AgNP-exposed rats. Conversely, the expression of astroglial glutamate transporters GLT-1 and GLAST was not affected by exposure to AgNPs, but the activity of the transporters was diminished. These results indicate that even low doses of AgNPs administered during an early stage of life create a substantial risk for health of immature organisms. Hence, the safety of AgNP-containing products for infants and children should be carefully considered.  相似文献

Lithium‐ion battery is a mature technology that is used in various electronic devices. Nowadays, this technology is a good candidate as energy storage for electric vehicles. Therefore, much research is focused on the development of high‐density power lithium‐ion batteries. Government regulations force manufacturers to recycle the batteries for safety and health reasons but recycling could also be interesting from an economic viewpoint since cathodes in lithium‐ion batteries contain valuable metals. The electrodes in lithium‐ion batteries will evolve to provide more energy and the recycling processes will have to fit with this evolution. Leaching, bioleaching and solvent extraction are at the centre of these processes. In this paper, recent leaching and solvent extraction strategies for recovering valuable metals from spent lithium‐ion batteries are reviewed and the evolution of these processes is discussed. © 2013 Society of Chemical Industry  相似文献

Adrenal chromaffin cells reportedly produce analgesic effects when implanted in the periaqueductal gray and the intrathecal space near the spinal cord. Chromaffin cells implanted in the cerebral ventricles may also produce analgesic effects, and the availability of the cerebral ventricles as a potential implant site could be advantageous for some patients. In fact, some of the first patients were implanted in the intraventricular site, even though the analgesic potential of that site had never been demonstrated. The present study was conducted to assess the analgesic potential of intraventricular, polymer-encapsulated calf adrenal chromaffin cells in the Bennett model. Sciatic nerve ligations produced substantial, long-lasting pain-related behaviors. However, there was no evidence that polymer-encapsulated adrenal chromaffin cells implanted in the cerebral ventricles produce analgesic effects in this model of chronic neuropathic pain. Composites of isotactic polypropylene filled with comminuted rapeseed straw are studied. Improvement in interfacial adhesion is achieved by chemical modification of the lignocellulose filler. Composites were subjected to recycling by extrusion. The effect of multiple recycling of the composites on the process of nucleation and crystallization of polypropylene matrix, surface topography, and free radical generation was checked. On the basis of differential scanning calorimetry data, a significant influence of the recycling on nucleation activity of the lignocellulose filler was evidenced. A relation between the filler particle size and multiple recycling was established by observations under a polarization microscope, while scanning electron microscope analyses confirmed the positive effect of chemical modification of rapeseed straw on the interfacial adhesion. The composite structure changes forced by multiple recycling are discussed in the context of free radical generation. Concentration of free radicals in the rapeseed straw samples and composites was measured by the electron paramagnetic resonance spectroscopy to show that it was higher in the systems subjected to multiple recycling. Interestingly, the composites after multiple recycling showing elevated concentration of free radicals are also characterized by higher nucleation activity. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Appl. In this paper we present results of the studies of ice slurry flow in horizontal tubes. The possibility of treating the rheological parameters of ice slurry as being those of Bingham fluid was confirmed. The values of parameters (mass fraction, flow velocity) corresponding to the laminar, intermediate and turbulent flow were determined which permits to optimize the flow in the systems working with this cooling agent. Critical flow velocity and mass fraction of ice values were determined thereby; they correspond to a change in character of an ice slurry flow from a laminar to turbulent motion. Experimental results were compared to the analytical results, based on the Hedström and Tomita algorithms (the laminar and turbulent flow, respectively). The comparison showed a very good agreement between these data.  相似文献

Scaffolds based on chitosan (CTS), collagen (Coll) and glycosaminoglycans (GAG) mixtures cross‐linked by tannic acid (TA) with bioglass 45S5 addition were obtained with the use of the freeze‐drying method. The prepared scaffolds were characterised for morphology, mechanical strength and degradation rate. Moreover, cell viability on the obtained scaffolds was measured with and without the presence of ascorbic acid and dexamethasone. The main purpose of the research was to compare the effectiveness of bioglass 45S5 influence on the physicochemical and biological properties of scaffolds. The results demonstrated that the scaffolds based on the blends of biopolymers cross‐linked by TA are stable in an aqueous environment. Scanning electron microscope images allowed the observation of a porous scaffold structure with interconnected pores. The addition of bioglass nanoparticles improved the mechanical properties and decreased the degradation rate of composite materials. The biological properties were improved for 20% tannic acid addition compared to 5%. Alkane α,γ-bis[4-methylpyridinium] diiodide and alkane α,γ-bis[4-methylquinolinium] diiodide were prepared and used as starting materials in the synthesis of dichromophoric cyanine dyes. Structural confirmation of the synthesized dyes was carried out by 1H NMR, MS spectroscopy and elemental analysis. The electronic absorption and the emission spectra for all the hemicyanines were measured in four organic solvents of varying polarity. All derivatives absorb in the region of about 500 nm and have molar absorptivity of about 104 M−1 cm−1. The absorption spectra of tested compounds are affected by their structure i.e. the structure of dialkyl(aryl)amino group, the electron acceptor part of the dye and the linker between two identical hemicyanine chromophores. The fluorescence bands' positions, in contrast to the absorption, are strongly affected by the solvent polarity.  相似文献
