Process capability indices Cp, Cpk, and Cpm are still nowadays widely used in industry—thanks to their easy formulation and implementation. This paper aims to give new mathematical insights in order to support their use in decision‐making via hypothesis testing. The minimum sample size usually needed in the applications to achieve fixed significance level and power is reported in light of the new mathematical aspects for Cpk and Cpm, which avoid misleading conclusions and the use of extensive numerical experiments. In addition, power curves for Cpk and Cpm, which have not previously appeared in the literature before, are also presented. Lastly, easy‐to‐follow diagrams for hypothesis testing with Cpk and Cpm and two critical scenarios for Cpm are included in the paper to facilitate the applicative use and the comprehension of the novel inferential aspects. This paper compares conventional and cryogenic cooling in the deep hole drilling of carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP)/Ti stacks. Various parameters are taken into account to find if the use of cryogenic coolant is justified by the improvement of the final results. Both the thrust and the torque were acquired continuously during the machining operations and compared both in average and distribution. The use of a cryogenic coolant brings a reduction in thrust force and torque without any sensible drawback. Overall the results prove that cryogenic drilling is a suitable technology for CFRP/Ti stack drill. 相似文献

Despite the clinical importance of pulse-wave velocity (PWV), there are no standards for accurate carotid-radial pulse-wave measurement in uremic patients with respect to carotid-femoral measurement. We assessed the reproducibility of PWV values using the carotid-radial PWV measurement. We have measured the carotid-femoral PWV and carotid-radial PWV with an automated system (Pulse Pen, DiaTecne) using 2 different blind operators in 105 hemodialysis (HD) patients. The carotid-femoral waveforms were acquired by the first blind operator simultaneously with 2 pressure-sensitive transducers and the transit time of the pulse was calculated using the system software. Similarly, the second blind operator acquired the carotid-radial waveforms. The two operators performed 2 consecutive measurements from the same subject, in a random order. In fact, after the first operator had completed 2 consecutive measurements from 1 subject, all of the sensors were detached, and the second operator attached sensors again to the same subject. The measurements were performed during interval of a midweek dialysis-free day. To evaluate the reproducibility of the system, both within-observer and between-observer analyses were performed. We studied 105 dialysis patients (HD) and 20 controls. All HD patients had three dialysis sessions lasting at least 4 h/wk. A total of 28 patients (26.7%) had diabetic nephropathy. The mean age of HD was 64.6 ± 16.1 years, the body weight was 71.1 ± 15.1 kg, and the height was 164.6 ± 6.1 cm. All population studied is referral at a tertiary care from at least 6 months (mean 11.1 ± 2.1 months). A total of 45% of patients are smokers or ex-smokers. The PWV of carotid-femoral is 8.58 ± 3.99 and the PWV of carotid-radial is 8.70 ± 4.01 m/sec, respectively, by the first and the second operator; the difference of PWV (femoral-radial measure) is -0.037 ± 0.99 m/sec. The linear correlation of carotid-femoral vs. carotid-radial PWV measurements is the highest (R(2) =0.90). The results regarding reproducibility, including mean differences and standard deviations, standard errors, and correlation coefficients were analyzed for each regional PWV value for the between-observer and within-observer studies. All of the measurements showed significant correlation coefficients, ranging from 0.94 to 0.98. The reproducibility of regional PWV values for 2 consecutive measurements from the same subject was also analyzed using Bland-Altman plots, with the reproducibility expressed as the mean difference and 2 standard deviations between the measurements obtained by the 2 operators during carotid-femoral and carotid-radial measurements. Carotid-radial PWV measurement provides an accurate analysis with a high reproducibility with respect to carotid-femoral PWV measurement, and it can be used for arterial stiffness analysis in hemodialysis patients. 相似文献

This paper describes a new machine-vision system, a HERMIA heterogeneous and reconfigurable machine for image analysis. The architecture topology of the HERMIA machine is reconfigurable; moreover, the integration of its special modules allows a search for optimal strategies to solve vision problems. The general architecture and the hardware implementation are described. The software environment of the HERMIA machine provides a full iconic interface and a pictorial language oriented to vision in multiprocessor architectures. Mitochondria are central in the pathogenesis of Parkinson’s disease (PD), as they are involved in oxidative stress, synaptopathy, and other immunometabolic pathways. Accordingly, they are emerging as a potential neuroprotection target, although further human-based evidence is needed for therapeutic advancements. This study aims to shape the pattern of mitochondrial respiration in the blood leukocytes of PD patients in relation to both clinical features and the profile of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) biomarkers of neurodegeneration. Mitochondrial respirometry on the peripheral blood mononucleate cells (PBMCs) of 16 PD patients and 14 controls was conducted using Seahorse Bioscience technology. Bioenergetic parameters were correlated either with standard clinical scores for motor and non-motor disturbances or with CSF levels of α-synuclein, amyloid-β peptides, and tau proteins. In PD, PBMC mitochondrial basal respiration was normal; maximal and spare respiratory capacities were both increased; and ATP production was higher, although not significantly. Maximal and spare respiratory capacity was directly correlated with disease duration, MDS-UPDRS part III and Hoehn and Yahr motor scores; spare respiratory capacity was correlated with the CSF amyloid-β-42 to amyloid-β-42/40 ratio. We provided preliminary evidence showing that mitochondrial respiratory activity increases in the PBMCs of PD patients, probably following the compensatory adaptations to disease progression, in contrast to the bases of the neuropathological substrate. 相似文献

This paper describes a precise positioning system based on magnetic shape memory alloys (MSMAs). This new type of material shows an interesting potential in the area of mechatronics due to its outstanding magnetically-induced strain, which is significantly larger than the one exhibited by other common active materials such as piezoelectric ceramics. However, MSMAs still have not found their way into industrial applications mainly due to their high hysteretic behavior and the strong sensitivity to temperature changes. The aim of this paper is to present the main challenges of using MSMAs for precise positioning systems by means of a simple yet effective experimental prototype. In particular, this paper examines the problem of effectively controlling the device in closed-loop. The performance of an adaptive hysteresis compensator based on the Preisach-like Krasnosel’skii–Pokrovskii model is analyzed and evaluated in the presence of temperature changes. Experiments confirm that the undesirable effects of temperature on the precision of the device can be partially addressed with an adaptive model-based algorithm devised to cope with time-varying nonlinearities. 相似文献

By means of chemostat culture and automatic control of pH and dissolved oxygen tension the penicillin fermentation was controlled so that the partial pressure of carbon dioxide (Pco2) in the gas phase was the only variable. This reveals that under the conditions used carbon dioxide strongly inhibits penicillin production. The synthesis rate (units/mg dry mycelium x h) was decreased about 50% by a Pco2 of 0.08 atm. 相似文献
