The mixed-convection flow from a hot vertical impinging jet on a colder horizontal disc has been studied. The geometry is analogous to a conventional burning gas cooktop. A numerical simulation of the system has been carried out using the finite-element method to study the dependence of fluid flow and heat transfer on the geometric, thermal, and fluid flow parameters. Results show that heat transfer efficiency versus several parameters such as inlet velocity magnitude and flue gas temperature has an optimum value, in which heat transfer efficiency is maximum. With thermal conductivity of the solid wall, velocity angle, and solid wall diameter heat transfer efficiency has increasing behavior. Finally, with solid wall height and solid wall thickness, heat transfer efficiency has diminishing behavior.  相似文献

This paper presents an overview and problem definition of a benchmark problem for the response control of wind-excited tall buildings. The building considered is a 76-story 306 m concrete office tower proposed for the city of Melbourne, Australia. The building is slender with a height to width ratio of 7.3; hence, it is wind sensitive. Wind tunnel tests for such a 76-story building model have been conducted at the University of Sydney and the results of across-wind data are used in the present benchmark problem. Either active, semiactive, or passive control systems can be installed in the building to reduce the wind response, although only an active control sample problem has been worked out to illustrate the control design. In the case of active control systems, either an active tuned mass damper or an active mass driver can be installed on the top floor. In the case of passive or semiactive systems, such as viscous dampers, viscoelastic dampers, electrorheological, or magnetorheological dampers, etc., control devices can be installed in selected story units. Control constraints and evaluation criteria are presented for the design problem. A simulation program based on the linear quadratic Gaussian technique has been developed and made available for the comparison of the performance of various control strategies.  相似文献

Information systems research often treats computer workarounds tangentially and as temporary phenomena. This exploratory research embraces anomalous system use in general and computer workarounds in particular by suggesting why the latter can be institutionalized and how they may be manifested in practice. Anomalous use is defined as sociomaterial actions around an IT artifact not consistent with its design or related official rules that nevertheless constitute system enactment in practice. The persistence of computer workarounds might be explained by the tension between top-down pressures from the external environment and bottom-up constraints from day-to-day operational work. These insights are drawn from an up-close study of workarounds in two cases from the Mediterranean region. The workaround practices involve decoupling and loose coupling, effectively creating ‘equilibrium’ between the aforementioned top-down and bottom-up influences. This may be attributed to parity between the influence exercised by external regulatory/accrediting bodies and the constraints of day-to-day work within the focal organization (i.e., work ethos, material constraints, and discretion to decouple). Our results show why some computer workarounds exhibit institutionalized behavior and their antecedent conditions. We also suggest that constituent workaround practices may exist as twin but distinctive behavioral patterns – non-compliance (or partial compliance) with an official rule and partially (or fully) working around designed systems.  相似文献

Graphene oxide (GO) membranes have recently attracted considerable attention for various applications involving filtration. In electrochemical systems, GO membranes serve as a separator or solid-state electrolyte; the roles which have been played for over four decades by the commercial ionic polymers such as Nafion. Owing to the versatility of GO membranes, they have shown an incredible potential for electrochemical energy storage and conversion. In lithium-sulphur batteries and similar electrochemical systems in which the electrode redox system is based on a conversion mechanism and subject to the so-called shuttle effect, a selective membrane can facilitate the transport of the electroactive species such as Li ions while blocking the release of the electroactive material (e.g., polysulphides) into the other half-cell. The same requirement is essential for the fabrication of redox flow batteries. Owing to the growing interest in flexible supercapacitors, there is a desire to replace liquid electrolytes with solid electrolytes, and GO membrane provides an appropriate scaffold for trapping gel electrolytes. The performance of Nafion in fuel cells has also been improved by the preparation of GO/Nafion membranes. All these different applications reveal the practical potential of GO membranes for the future energy storage and conversion.  相似文献

An extracellular aspartyl proteinase from Mucor mucedo DSM 809 submerged cultures was purified by a two-steps chromatographic procedure. The enzyme had a molecular weight (MW) of 32.7 kDa, and an isoelectric point (pI) value of 4.29; no evidence of N-linked glycosylation was found. As judged by mass spectrometry, the primary structure of the M. mucedo enzyme presented homology with Rhizopus spp. proteinases. The secondary structure showed 4% α-helix, 48% β-sheet and 48% random coil structure in 20 mM phosphate buffer (pH 5.8), as evidenced by circular dichroism spectroscopy. When acting on milk to provoke curd formation, the proteinase showed maximum potency at pH 5.0 and at 40 °C. The enzyme was heat-sensitive and became completely inactivated after incubation at 55 °C for 10 min. These results indicate that the milk-clotting enzyme from M. mucedo can be considered as a potential substitute for bovine chymosin in cheese manufacturing.  相似文献

Roller compacted concrete (RCC) dams are vulnerable to cracking as a result of high tensile stresses due to material properties, thermal and mechanical loads. Making reliable prediction of stress fields, and thereby temperature cracking risk form an important part of the material modelling. The present study figures out the changes in thermal stresses and crack fields of the Kinta RCC dam at the end of the construction and its service life. Water temperature at various levels of the reservoir and its fluctuations were considered in the present study. The developed finite element program has been used in the analysis. Based on the obtained results, it is revealed that there is an increase in the thermal stresses after some years of dam completion. However, their location and distribution are mostly similar.  相似文献

The effect of Ce, Sb, and Sn photosensitive elements, individually and in combination with each other, on solarization and crystallization of an X-ray irradiated and a nonirradiated lithium silicate-based glass were investigated. According to the results, considering the crystallization behavior of the nonirradiated glasses, they were divided into Ce-bearing and Ce-free groups, in which the former group showed a clearer solarization tendency that manifested as an appearance of an absorbance peak at 318 nm in the spectrophotometry experiment. However, the results showed that in the irradiated glasses, the presence of Sb was more important in terms of improvement in crystallization view. Antimony decreased the differential thermal analysis (DTA) crystallization peak temperature from 655°C to 594°C and, in combination with the two other elements, changed the surface crystallization mechanism to a bulk one. The reactions that seemed to be responsible for the above-mentioned observations were discussed by spectrophotometry, DTA, X-ray diffraction, and scanning electron microscopic methods.  相似文献

Bioactive pastes containing bioactive sol–gel derived glass (BG) and various amounts of chitosan (Cn) and gelatin (Gel) were prepared in this study. To be exact, three pastes were prepared by mixing 25 parts by weight of glass powder with (a) 100 parts by weight of a 3 wt% acetic acid-based chitosan solution, (b) 100 parts by weight of a 3 wt% water-based gelatin solution, and (c) 100 parts by weight of a solution containing equal amounts of the above-mentioned solutions. The bioactivity of the composite samples was evaluated by the immersion of the prepared pastes into the simulated body fluid (SBF) solution. The samples were also analyzed by X-ray diffractometry (XRD), Brunauer–Emmett–Teller (BET), scanning electron microscope (SEM), Fourier transform infrared (FTIR), and atomic absorption spectroscopy (AAS). The results indicated better apatite formation capacity on the glass-/chitosan-/gelatin-injected paste after 14 days. Furthermore, unlike the chitosan containing paste, the gelatin-containing sample was injectable and displayed viscoelastic behavior as determined by conducting the rheology test in oscillation mode. In addition, while chitosan made the paste more viscous, it improved the washout resistance when compared to the gelatin-containing sample. The experimental results also indicate the formation of spherical calcites in the pastes prior to immersion into the SBF solution.  相似文献

Process variables were optimized for the production of lactic acid from pretreated beet molasses by Lactobacillus delbrueckii IFO 3202 for batch and continuous fermentations. In the batch fermentation, maximum yields (95·4% conversion, 77·1% effective) and maximum lactic acid volumetric productivity (4·83 g dm−3 h−1) was achieved at 45°C, pH 6·0, 78·2 g dm−3 sugar concentration with 10 g dm−3 yeast extract. Various cheaper nitrogen sources were replaced with yeast extract on equal nitrogen bases in batch fermentation. Of all the nitrogen sources tested, yeast extract yielded the highest and malt sprouts yielded the second highest level of lactic acid. In the continuous fermentation, maximum lactic acid (4·15%) was obtained at a dilution rate of 0·1 h−1. Maximum volumetric lactic acid productivity (11·20 g dm−3 h−1) occurred at D = 0·5 h−1 dilution rate. © 1997 SCI.  相似文献
