Black rice husk ash (BRHA) and white rice husk ash (WRHA) were incorporated into natural rubber (NR) using a laboratory‐size two‐roll mill. A conventional vulcanization system (CV) was chosen and cure studies were carried out on a TI‐100 Curometer. The torque curves were obtained at 150, 160, 170, and 180°C. The overall rate and the apparent activation energy for the vulcanization process were calculated for each compound assuming that vulcanization follows first‐order kinetics. For comparison purposes, two commercial fillers, precipitated silica (Zeosil‐175) and carbon black (N762), were also used. It was observed that addition of WRHA to NR compounds increased the cross‐linking rate and lowered the apparent activation energy more markedly than the other fillers. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Researchers have suggested that operator training may improve operator reactions; however, researchers have not documented this for alarm reactions. The goal of this research was to train participants to react to alarms using sensor activity patterns. In Experiment 1, 80 undergraduates monitored a simulated security screen while completing a primary word search task. They received spatial, temporal, single sensor, or no training to respond to alarms of differing reliability levels. Analyses revealed more appropriate and quicker reactions when participants were trained and when the alarms were reliable. In Experiment 2, 56 participants practiced time estimation by simple repetition, performance feedback, or performance feedback and temporal subdivision. They then reacted to alarms based on elapsed time between sensor activity and alarm onset. Surprisingly, results indicated that participants did not benefit differentially from temporal interval training, focusing instead on advertised system reliability. Researchers should replicate these findings with realistic tasks and real-world complex task operators.  相似文献

Copper and nickel may be electrodeposited from their ions in solution in nitrate-amide melts at room temperature. In the ammonium nitrate-acetamide-urea melt at 23°C, the reduction to the metal competes with the corrosion reaction at low rates and with the reduction of the ammonium and nitrate ions of the melt at high current densities. Two distinct types of nickel complexes are found in solution. The nickel complex formed by the corrosion reaction is bound by at least one ammonia ligand. Nickel complexes formed by dissolving the halide in the melt show evidence of coordination by less strongly bounding ligands, probably by amides. Similarly, the visible spectra of copper chloride in solution suggest that the cupric ions are coordinated primarily by amides. The copper corrosion reaction produces a complex with a spectra distinctly different from that of cupric chloride in solution. The shift in absorption maxima suggests that the copper complex formed by the corrosion reaction has at least one ammonia ligand in the coordination sphere.  相似文献

A laboratory‐sized two‐roll mill was used to incorporate rice husk ash into natural rubber (NR). A conventional vulcanization system was used for curing and cure studies were carried out on a Monsanto rheometer. Physical testing of the NR vulcanizates involved determining tensile and tear resistances and hardness. Swelling behavior of NR compounds and scanning electron microscopy were used to investigate the interaction between rice husk ash and natural rubber. Also, dynamical mechanical thermal analysis was used to assess filler–rubber interactions in terms of storage modulus (E′) and loss tangent (tan δ). Products of the Thermal Ene-Reaction of Unsaturated Fatty Compounds and Maleic Anhydride The thermal ene reaction of the methylates of unsaturated fatty acids 10-undecenoic acid, oleic acid and (E)-10-eicosendioic acid with maleic anhydride was carried out at 190°C. Cotton plants under herbivore attack release volatile semiochemicals that attract natural enemies of the herbivores to the damaged plant. The volatiles released in response to herbivory are not only released from the damaged leaves but from the entire cotton plant. We found that cotton plants that released myrcene, (Z)-3-hexenyl acetate, (E)--ocimene, linalool, (E)-4,8-dimethyl-1,3,7-nonatriene, (E)--farnesene, and (E, E)-4,8,12-trimethyl-1,3,7,11-tridecatetraene systemically from undamaged leaves of caterpillar damaged plants were attractive to the generalist parasitoid Cotesia marginiventris and the specialist parasitoid Microplitis croceipes. Plants from which the caterpillar damaged leaves were removed and that released those compounds systemically were significantly preferred over undamaged control plants in two-choice experiments in a flight tunnel. Artificially damaged cotton plants that released green leafy volatiles and constitutive terpenoids were less attractive for M. croceipes and C. marginiventris. Only C. marginiventris preferred artificially damaged plants over undamaged control plants, whereas M. croceipes showed no preference. The apparent lack of specificity of systemically released compounds in response to different herbivores feeding on the lower leaves is discussed.  相似文献

Zusammenfassung Die Synthese von acht verschiedenen 2-Alkoxy-5-alkyl-tetrahydrofuranen und ihren Stereoisomeren wird vorgestellt, sieben von ihnen sind als Aromastoffe der Wassermelone bekannt. Alle Stereoisomeren werden, ausgehend von optisch reinen-Nonalacton-Enantiomeren, synthetisiert und mit Diisobutylaluminiumhydrid selektiv zu den entsprechenden Lactolen reduziert. Die Lactole werden mit den gewünschten Alkoholen in schwach saurer Lösung zucis/trans-Diastereomeren umgesetzt und durch Flüssigchromatographie in optisch reine Stereoisomere getrennt. Die sensorische Charakteristik aller Stereoisomeren der sieben Verbindungen wird aufgezeigt. Die Trennung dercis/trans-Diastereomeren an DB-210 wird vorgestellt und die chirospezifische Differenzierung der acht Verbindungen diskutiert.
Stereoisomeric flavour compounds L. Optically pure 2-alkoxy-5-alkyl-tetrahydrofurans — structures and properties
Summary The synthesis of eight different 2-alkoxy-5-alkyltetrahydrofurans and their stereoisomers is presented, seven of which are known to be flavour compounds of water melons. All stereoisomers were synthesized from optically pure-lactone enantiomers, which were selectively reduced by diisobutylaluminium hydride to the corresponding lactols. The lactols were treated with the desired alcohol component in weakly acidic media to yield thecis/trans diastereoisomers, which were separated into optically pure stereoisomers by liquid chromatography. The sensory characteristics of all four stereoisomers of the seven compounds are given. The Stereodifferentiation of thesecis/trans diastereoisomers on DB-210 is demonstrated and the direct chirospecific differentiation of all eight compounds discussed.

The need for new, improved solder alloys and a better understanding of reactions during the soldering process grows steadily as the need for smaller and more reliable electronic products increases. Information obtained from phase equilibria data and thermodynamic calculations has proven to be an important tool in the design and understanding of new lead-free solder alloys. A wide range of candidate alloys can be rapidly evaluated for proper freezing ranges, susceptibility to contamination effects, and reactions with substrate materials before the expensive process of preparing and testing candidate alloys is initiated.  相似文献
