Species distribution models have recently become important tools in ecological research. Prediction of suitable habitats for threatened and endangered species is essential for the conservation and management of their native habitats. A landscape scale approach is relevant for biodiversity conservation since landscape planning and management are generally conducted at wide spatial scales, focusing on areas with complex landscape configuration as a consequence of human activities. The aims of this study were to test a maximum entropy approach (Maxent) to the development of a niche-based model for species of conservation interest and to relate this model to landscape structure metrics. The results obtained here showed a good predictive power of Maxent for the three target species and highlighted the importance of landscape structure analysis for the detection of patterns of habitat suitability. Moreover, this work stressed that combining classical environmental information with landscape structure in analysing habitat suitability for species of conservation interest may be used to guide conservation efforts and landscape management practices.  相似文献

We have isolated a cDNA coding for a putative invertebrate-type dopamine receptor (Peadop2) from P. americana brain by using a PCR-based strategy. The mRNA is present in samples from brain and salivary glands. We analyzed the distribution of the PeaDOP2 receptor protein with specific affinity-purified polyclonal antibodies. On Western blots, PeaDOP2 was detected in protein samples from brain, subesophageal ganglion, thoracic ganglia, and salivary glands. In immunocytochemical experiments, we detected PeaDOP2 in neurons with their somata being located at the anterior edge of the medulla bilaterally innervating the optic lobes and projecting to the ventro-lateral protocerebrum. In order to determine the functional and pharmacological properties of the cloned receptor, we generated a cell line constitutively expressing PeaDOP2. Activation of PeaDOP2-expressing cells with dopamine induced an increase in intracellular cAMP. In contrast, a C-terminally truncated splice variant of this receptor did not exhibit any functional property by itself. The molecular and pharmacological characterization of the first dopamine receptor from P. americana provides the basis for forthcoming studies focusing on the significance of the dopaminergic system in cockroach behavior and physiology.  相似文献

Most studies of patents citations focus on national or international contexts, especially contexts of high absorptive capacity, and employ examiner citations. We argue that results can vary if we take the region as the context of analysis, especially if it is a region with low absorptive capacity, and if we study applicant citations and examiner-inserted citations separately. Using a sample from the Valencian Community (Spain), we conclude that (i) the use of examiner-inserted citations as a proxy for applicant citations, (ii) the interpretation of non-patent references as indicators of science-industry links, and (iii) the traditional results for geographical localization are not generalizable to all regions with low absorptive capacity.  相似文献

Coagulation and fibrinolysis are crucial in septic shock and inhibition of thrombin may be beneficial in this circumstance. Since porcine endotoxaemia has been found to replicate severe septic shock, a low molecular weight thrombin inhibitor, melagatran, was infused during the first 3 out of 6 h of endotoxaemia in pigs. Plasma creatinine (p <0.01) and urinary output (p <0.05) were less affected in the melagtran + endotoxin group (n=6) as compared to endotoxaemic controls (n=9). The left ventricular stroke work index, systemic vascular resistance index and oxygen extraction were all less affected (p <0.05) by endotoxin during the infusion of melagatran. The plasma concentration of melagatran declined with an apparent plasma half-life of 5 h as soon as the infusion was stopped. APTT, however, continued to increase after the infusion of melagatran had stopped and reached a maximum of 113 s at 5 h (baseline 17 s). APTT in endotoxaemic control pigs reached a maximum of 22 s. Thus, melagatran may counteract some consequences of endotoxaemia.  相似文献

Pressure processing of foodstuff has been applied to produce or modify proteinaceous gel structures. In real pressure processing the treatment is non-isothermal, due to the adiabatic nature of the process and the heat loss from the product to the vessel. In order to estimate the effect of pressurization on milk constituents pressure and temperature dependent kinetics were determined separately from each other. In a detailed kinetic study whey protein isolate was treated under isobaric (200 to 800 MPa) and isothermal conditions (-2 to 70 degrees C), and the resulting degree of denaturation of beta-lactoglobulin A and B and alpha-lactalbumin was analysed. Kinetic parameters of denaturation were estimated using a one step non-linear regression method which allowed a global fit of the whole data set. The isobaric isothermal denaturation of beta-lactoglobulin and alpha-lactalbumin was found to follow third and second order kinetics, respectively. Isothermal pressure denaturation of both beta-lactoglobulin fractions do not differ significantly and were characterized by an activation volume decreasing with increasing temperature from -10 to about -30 ml mol(-1), which demonstrates that the denaturation rate is accelerated with increasing temperature. The activation energy of about 70 to 100 kJ mol(-1) obtained for beta-lactoglobulin A and B is not dependent to a great extent on the pressure which indicates that above 200 MPa denaturation rate is limited by the aggregation rate while pressure forces unfolding of the molecule.  相似文献

Radioiodine therapy is often the method of choice for treatment of hyperthyroidism because it is considered safe, is relatively inexpensive, and is convenient for the patient and except for occasional hypothyroidism, almost without side effects. Even though radioiodine treatment has been performed for over 50 years, the method of treatment differs from country to country and even from hospital to hospital within the same country. To illuminate such differences 187 radioiodine treatments for Graves' disease at Malm? University Hospital in Sweden have been analysed. Comparative dose calculations were carried out assuming that the individual patients had also been treated according to a number of other protocols in current use. The results show that the protocol used for calculating the administered activity in radioiodine therapy is far from optimised in many hospitals. Following the protocols where the absorbed dose to the thyroid is calculated without any uptake measurements after administration of a test activity, most of the patients were treated with an unnecessarily high activity, as a mean factor of 2.5 times too high and in individual patients up to eight times too high, leading to an unnecessary radiation exposure both for the patient, the family and the public. This is not in accordance with generally accepted radiation protection principles. Using higher activity than necessary will also prolong the patient's stay at the hospital and thus increase the costs for the care. Unnecessarily high activity will also necessitate more long-lasting radiation protection restriction relative to family members when the patient is back home.  相似文献
