The rates of CO and CO/CO2 hydrogenation at 4.2 MPa and 523 K are reported for a series of Cu/SiO2 catalysts containing 2 to 88 wt.% Cu. These catalysts were prepared on a variety of silica sources using several different Cu deposition techniques. In CO/CO2 hydrogenation, the rate of methanol formation is proportional to the exposed Cu surface area of the reduced catalyst precursor, as determined by N2O frontal chromatography. The observed rate, 4.2×10–3 mole CH3OH/Cu site-sec, is within a factor of three of the rates reported by others over Cu/ZnO and Cu/ZnO/Al2O3 catalysts under comparable conditions. These results suggest that the ZnO component is only a moderate promoter in methanol synthesis. Hydrogenation of CO over these catalysts also gives methanol with high selectivity, but the synthesis rate is not proportional to the Cu surface area. This implies that another type of site, either alone or in cooperation with Cu, is involved in the synthesis of methanol from CO. 相似文献

This investigation explores the use of five‐parameter logistic curve fitting in quantifying turbidity robustness and risk scoring in clarification and filtrations stages of several surface water treatment works in the Anglian Water region of the United Kingdom. The approach taken reviews different scoring systems and addresses issues of weighting, averages and variability in robustness performance using turbidity robustness indices (TRIs). It also proposes an area‐based risk scoring profile to assess performance [relative area profile for T90 (RAP90)]. ABSTRACTTo effectively separate lanthanides (Ln(III)) from actinides (An(III)), symmetrical 2,2′-bipyridyl (Bpy), 1,10-phenanthroline (Phen), and unsymmetrical N-methyl-N-tolyl-1,10-phenanthroline-2-carboxamide (MeTol-PTA) were investigated. According to the crystal structures and EXAFS experiments, the decreasing ionic radius from light to heavy Ln led to decreases in the Ln–N (Bpy) and Ln–N (Phen) distances, while log β simply increased due to the electrostatic interaction and the order of Ln–O (MeTol-PTA) < Ln–N (Bpy, Phen) < Ln–N (MeTol-PTA) was obtained. The efficacy of individual ω-t-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) in altering eicosanoid synthesis in peritoneal macrophages
was studied by feeding mice for 10 days a diet containing 2 wt% fat, which included 0.5 wt% ethyl esters of eicosapentaenoic
acid (EPA), docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) or linolenic acid (LNA). Upon stimulation with calcium ionophore A23187, macrophages
from these animals produced significantly lower amounts of leukotriene C4, leukotriene B4 and 12-hydroxyeicosatetraenoic acid, prostaglandin E2 and 6-keto prostaglandin F1α compared with those obtained from animals on the diets containing olive oil or safflower oil. The decrease in leukotriene

This study describes the identification of an aggregation pheromone for the pepper weevil,Anthonomus eugenii and field trials of a synthetic pheromone blend. Volatile collections and gas chromatography revealed the presence of six male-specific compounds. These compounds were identified using chromatographic and spectral techniques as: (Z)-2-(3,3-dimethylcyclohexylidene)ethanol, (E)-2-(3,3-dimethylcyclohexylidene)ethanol, (Z)-(3,3-dimethylcyclohexylidene)acetaldehyde, (E)-(3,3-dimethylcyclohexylidene)acetaldehyde, (E)-3,7-dimethyl-2,6-octadienoic acid (geranic acid), and (E)-3,7-dimethyl-2,6-octadien-1-ol (geraniol). The emission rates of these compounds from feeding males were determined to be about: 7.2, 4.8, 0.45, 0.30, 2.0, and 0.30µg/male/day, respectively. Sticky traps baited with a synthetic blend of these compounds captured more pepper weevils (both sexes) than did unbaited control traps or pheromone-baited boll weevil traps. Commercial and laboratory formulations of the synthetic pheromone were both attractive. However, the commercial formulation did not release geranic acid properly, and geranic acid is necessary for full activity. The pheromones of the pepper weevil and the boll weevil are compared. Improvements for increasing trap efficiency and possible uses for the pepper weevil pheromone are discussed. The redox chemistry of mononuclear and dinuclear gold(I) phosphine arylthiolate complexes was recently investigated by using electrochemical, chemical, and photochemical techniques. We now report the redox chemistry of dinuclear gold(I) phosphine complexes containing aliphatic dithiolate ligands. These molecules differ from previously studied gold(I) phosphine thiolate complexes in that they are cyclic and contain aliphatic thiolates. Cyclic voltammetry experiments of Au(2) (LL)(pdt) [pdt = propanedithiol; LL = 1,2-bis(diphenylphosphino)-ethane (dppe), 1,3-bis(diphenylphosphino)propane (dppp), 1,4-bis(diphenylphosphino)butane (dppb), 1,5-bis(diphenylphosphino)pentane (dpppn)] in 0.1 M TBAH/CH(3)CN or CH(2)Cl(2) solutions at 50 to 500 mV/sec using glassy carbon or platinum electrodes, show two irreversible anodic processes at ca. +0.6 and +1.1 V (vs. SCE). Bulk electrolyses at +0.9 V and +1.4 V result in n values of 0.95 and 3.7, respectively. Chemical oxidation of Au(2)(dppp)(pdt) using one equivalent of Br(2) (2 oxidizing equivalents) yields 1,2-dithiolane and Au(2)(dppp)Br(2). The reactivity seen upon mild oxidation = +1.0 V is consistent with formal oxidation of a thiolate ligand, followed by a fast chemical reaction that results in cleavage of a second gold-sulfur bond. Oxidation at higher potentials (>/= +1.3 V) is consistent with oxidation of gold(I) to gold(III). Structural and electrochemical differences between gold(I) aromatic and aliphatic thiolate oxidation processes are discussed. 相似文献

The knowledge of the steady-state stress for plastic deformation as a function of temperature and strain rate is essential for hot-forming superconducting material into commercially useful shapes. In this paper, results are presented on the experimental determination of the rheology of fully dense polycrystalline Y1 Ba2 Cu3 O7−x superconducting material at temperatures ranging from 750° to 950°C and strain rates of 10−4 , 10−5 , and 10−6 s−1 . The data are best fitted by a power law: ε(s−1 )=8.9 × 10−17 . (s−1 ) σ2.5 (Pa) exp [−2.01 × 105 (J·mol−1 )|RT]. X-ray analysis shows that the superconducting material retains its phase composition after nearly 70% total strain of the sample. A strong anisotropy in the resistivity of the deformed samples is observed because of the development of a preferred orientation of the a or b axis of Y1 Ba2 Cu3 O7−x orthorhombic perovskite single crystals perpendicular to the principal maximum compressive stress. 相似文献

Milkfat was separated into major chainlength fractions by solid-phase extraction. The effect on thermal behavior and texture
of replacing both saturated and monounsaturated long-chain triglycerides from milkfat by long-chain monounsaturated triglycerides
with an unsaturated fatty acid in thesn-2 position is reported. Increasing proportions of cocoa butter were added to fractions of short-to medium-chain triglycerides
(C22−C44) and medium- to long-chain triglycerides (C36−C48) isolated from milkfat. Thermal behavior and texture of the mixtures were measured. Results indicated that long-chain monounsaturated
triglycerides from cocoa butter enhanced co-crystallization and co-operative melting and did not induce polymorphic transitions
upon crystallization and melting of the fractions. At 4°C, they acted as texture builder if present in proportions of more
than 30%, whereas below this level, they acted as texture softeners. The effect of the long-chain monounsaturated triglycerides
on the texture of fractions that melt at low temperature could not be predicted from the proportion of solid fat at that temperature.

Effects of pH and precipitation on autohydrogenotrophic denitrification using the hollow-fiber membrane-biofilm reactor 总被引:15,自引:0,他引:15
Experiments carried out in a hollow-fiber, membrane-biofilm reactor (HFMBR) showed that the optimum pH for autotrophic denitrification was in the range 7.7-8.6, with the maximum efficiency at 8.4. Increasing the pH above 8.6 caused a significant decrease in nitrate removal rate and a dramatic increase in nitrite accumulation. The pH rose by 1.2 units when a large buffer was not added, suggesting that some field applications may require pH control. Precipitation of Ca(2+) occurred in every experiment. Precipitation was the largest sink for carbonate, and it also offset alkalinity production by denitrification. Although the alkalinity increased in most cases, systems with a high carbonate buffer and high pH accentuated precipitation, and the net change in alkalinity was negative. The long-term success of field applications of the HFMBR may depend upon the interactions among calcium concentration, total carbonate concentration, pH, and alkalinity changes. 相似文献

We hypothesize that activated-sludge processes having stable and complete nitrification have significant and similar diversity and functional redundancy among its ammonia- and nitrite-oxidizing bacteria, despite differences in temperature, solids retention time (SRT), and other operating conditions. To evaluate this hypothesis, we examined the diversity of nitrifying bacterial communities in all seven water-reclamation plants (WRPs) operated by Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago (MWRDGC). These plants vary in types of influent waste stream, plant size, water temperature, and SRT. We used terminal restriction fragment length polymorphism (T-RFLP) targeting the 16S rRNA gene and group-specific ammonia-monooxygenase functional gene (amoA) to investigate these hard-to-culture nitrifying bacteria in the full-scale WRPs. We demonstrate that nitrifying bacteria carrying out the same metabolism coexist in all WRPs studied. We found ammonia-oxidizing bacteria (AOB) belonging to the Nitrosomonas europaea/eutropha, Nitrosomonas oligotropha, Nitrosomonas communis, and Nitrosospira lineages in all plants. We also observed coexisting Nitrobacter and Nitrospira genera for nitrite-oxidizing bacteria (NOB). Among the factors that varied among the WRPs, only the seasonal temperature variation seemed to change the nitrifying community, especially the balance between Nitrosospira and Nitrosomonas, although both coexisted in winter and summer samples. The coexistence of various nitrifiers in all WRPs is evidence of functional redundancy, a feature that may help maintain the stability of the system for nitrification. 相似文献
