The objective of this research was to develop a photocatalytic reactor that will reduce the total organic carbon (TOC) concentration of a gray water influent. The system used a reactor packed with titanium dioxide (TiO2) supported by silica gel (SiO2) and was optimized with respect to several system parameters. The SiO2–TiO2 composites (STCs) were capable of reducing the TOC concentration from 3,000 ppb to below the targeted concentration of 500 ppb in a recirculating system. An optimum empty bed contact time of 7 min was found based on the fastest destruction rate to reach below 500 ppb of TOC. Also based on destruction rate, a STC having a TiO2 loading of 12 g/100 mL of SiO2 precursor and approximately 120-? pore size was shown to have the best performance among several composites of different TiO2 loadings and pore sizes. The addition of activated carbon to the STC was found to improve the overall performance of the system by increasing the composite’s adsorption capabilities.  相似文献

The objective of this study was to quantify differences in udder health and milking characteristics among the Holstein-Friesian (HF), Montbéliarde (MB), Normande (NM), Norwegian Red (NRF), Montbéliarde × Holstein-Friesian (MBX), and Normande × Holstein-Friesian (NMX) genotypes, while considering the effect of feeding system and parity. A total of 749 lactations were available for inclusion in the analysis from 309 cows in 1 research herd over 5 yr. Somatic cell score (SCS; i.e., natural logarithm of somatic cell count) was used as an indicator of udder health. Milking duration (seconds/d) was defined as the sum of the milking duration in the a.m. and milking duration in the p.m. Average daily milk flow (AMF; kg/min) was defined as total daily milk yield divided by total daily milking duration. Peak milk flow (kg/min) was defined as the maximum rate of milk flow achieved in the daily milking process. The SCS of the NRF (10.31 units) and MB (10.47 units) breeds was less than that of the HF (10.96 SCS units), whereas that of the NM (10.88 SCS units), MBX (10.93 SCS units), and NMX (10.84 SCS units) breeds was similar to that of the HF. The MBX and NMX had the greatest AMF (1.56 and 1.54 kg/min, respectively) and the NM had the lowest (1.33 kg/min). Animals offered a high concentrate diet had greater AMF, peak milk flow, and milking duration. The differences expressed by the divergent breeds may reflect differences in the past breeding goals among the breeds, namely the inclusion of traits aimed at maintaining or improving udder health.  相似文献

Pork muscle samples (M. longissimus dorsi and M. psoas major) were obtained from pigs given one of four dietary treatments, (1) control diet, (2) supplemental iron (7g iron (II) sulphate/kg feed), (3) supplemental vitamin E (200 mg dl-α-tocopheryl acetate/kg of feed) and (4) supplemental vitamin E+supplemental iron. Vitamin C was supplemented to all dietary treatments to facilitate iron uptake. Vitamin E and iron tissue levels were determined for each treatment. Warmed-over flavour (WOF) was evaluated by a trained sensory panel (n=8) for the four treatments which were cooked and refrigerated at 4?°C for up to 5 days. Thawing loss, driploss and thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS) were also determined. Vitamin E muscle tissue levels were greatest in the Iron/vitamin E-treated group followed by the vitamin E group, control and iron treated groups, respectively for M. longissimus dorsi. Whereas, for M. psoas major vitamin E tissue levels were in order of magnitude, vitamin E>iron/vitamin E>iron>control group. Iron tissue levels were in the order vitamin E>iron/vitamin E>control>iron for M. longissimus dorsi and iron>vitamin E>control>iron/vitamin E for M. psoas major. Thus, vitamin E and vitamin C promoted non-supplemental iron absorption in the vitamin E-treated group for M. longissimus dorsi and to a lesser extent for M. psoas major. M. psoas major was more susceptible to warmed-over flavour development than M. longissimus dorsi for all treatments as determined by sensory profiling, due to higher tissue iron levels. From sensory profiling, WOF development in M. longissimus dorsi and M. psoas major was highest in the iron-supplemented groups followed by the control and vitamin E-supplemented groups.  相似文献

Multiple forms of α-amylase arise from translation of separate messages and post-translational proteolytic modification during malting. α-amylase activity is tolerant of proteolysis. The enzyme appears to have two domains one of which is associated with starch cleavage. The second site which binds cyclodextrin is destroyed by proteolysis. In this work we present a method for the deposition of periodically ordered, c-axis aligned ZnO nanorod arrays. By using chemical bath deposited films in conjunction with silica templating through nanosphere monolayers, masks suitable for high temperature deposition are created. A vapour phase transport technique is then used to deposit ordered arrays, quickly and inexpensively in a manner ideal for low cost, scalable and reproducible growth on a diverse range of substrates.  相似文献

Interference effects on charge transport through an individual molecule can lead to a notable modulation and suppression on its conductance. In this letter, we report the observation of quantum interference effects occurring at room temperature in single-molecule junctions based on oligo(3)-phenylenevinylene (OPV3) derivatives, in which the central benzene ring is coupled to either para- or meta-positions. Using the break-junction technique, we find that the conductance for a single meta-OPV3 molecule wired between gold electrodes is one order of magnitude smaller than that of a para-OPV3 molecule. Theoretical calculations confirm the occurrence of constructive and destructive interference in the para- and meta-OPV3 molecules respectively, which arises from the phase difference of the transmission coefficients through the molecular orbitals.  相似文献

Aluminium alloys have found increasing applications in the automotive and aeronautical industries in recent years. Due to their extraordinary properties however, the machining of these alloys still poses difficulties, and requires the optimized combination of cutting tool material and geometry. The potential of CVD diamond coated carbide tools has been demonstrated in recent years, however tool wear and short tool life remain as issues to be resolved. Key to increasing the tool life of CVD diamond coated tools is the further development of the coating process to optimize the coating adhesion. An understanding of the substrate and coating residual stress profiles must be gained in order to achieve this. Compressive residual stresses in cutting tools can lead to a higher crack resistance, but also to early coating delamination and tool failure. To analyze the influence of residual stresses on the coating quality and tool life, the residual stress profiles of tungsten carbide substrates and CVD diamond coatings were measured using X-ray and synchrotron radiation. The influence of the tungsten carbide substrate type and the CVD diamond coating process on the residual stress profiles was thus determined. In order to analyze the performance of the coated tools and the influence of the residual stresses on the tool lifetime, machining tests were performed with two aluminium silicon alloys. The tool wear, tool lifetime and workpiece quality were examined. Finally, many of the commonly used wear tests used to analyze the wear resistance of tool coatings cannot be implemented for CVD diamond coatings due to their high hardness. An impact test was therefore constructed to allow the determination of the wear resistance of CVD diamond tools.  相似文献

The rotational grinding process enables production of substrates for the semiconductor industry by a singular capacity to meet planarity and total thickness variation (TTV) requirements. However, the simple configuration is characterised by varying local kinematics. An upper-bound simulation of the meso-scale engagement kinematics has been developed with analysis algorithms that provide estimates of local kinematical parameters. These have been correlated with local measurements for typical brittle-mode microgrinding parameters including measurements of the local normal force. The results generally correlated for surface roughness but not for local normal force where ‘equilibration’ was attributed to system local and bending stiffness components.  相似文献
