A technological milestone for experiments employing transition edge sensor bolometers operating at sub-Kelvin temperature is the deployment of detector arrays with 100s-1000s of bolometers. One key technology for such arrays is readout multiplexing: the ability to read out many sensors simultaneously on the same set of wires. This paper describes a frequency-domain multiplexed readout system which has been developed for and deployed on the APEX-SZ and South Pole Telescope millimeter wavelength receivers. In this system, the detector array is divided into modules of seven detectors, and each bolometer within the module is biased with a unique ~MHz sinusoidal carrier such that the individual bolometer signals are well separated in frequency space. The currents from all bolometers in a module are summed together and pre-amplified with superconducting quantum interference devices operating at 4 K. Room temperature electronics demodulate the carriers to recover the bolometer signals, which are digitized separately and stored to disk. This readout system contributes little noise relative to the detectors themselves, is remarkably insensitive to unwanted microphonic excitations, and provides a technology pathway to multiplexing larger numbers of sensors.  相似文献

We have investigated the regulatory role of nitric oxide (NO) in corticotropin-releasing hormone (CRH) release from the human perfused placental lobule in vitro. The effects of the NO donor sodium nitroprusside, the NO synthase inhibitor N omega-nitro-L-arginine, and the NO substrate L-arginine on human (h) placental CRH secretion have been studied. Single lobules of term placentae were bilaterally perfused with Krebs solution (5 mL/min; 95% O2-5% CO2; 37 C; pH 7.3). Fetal and maternal perfusates were collected at 4 C every 30 min for 3 h. CRH immunoreactivity (CRH-IR) in perfusates was measured by RIA using the 41-residue synthetic CRH as standard, 125I-labeled Tyr-hCRH as tracer, and a rabbit anti-CRH antibody Y2BO. The sensitivity of the assay was 0.13 pmol/L. Under basal conditions, human perfused placentae in vitro continuously secreted CRH-IR, which diluted in parallel to a synthetic hCRH-(1-41) standard curve. Size-exclusion chromatography of placental perfusates using a Sephadex G-50 column indicated that placental CRH-IR predominately coeluted with hCRH-(1-41) standard. Basal maternal perfusate CRH-IR levels (27 +/- 4 pmol/L) released from perfused placental lobules were nearly 10-fold greater than fetal perfusate CRH-IR levels (3.4 +/- 0.7 pmol/L; P < 0.05). Infusion of sodium nitroprusside (30-100 mumol/L) into the maternal and fetal placental circulations inhibited CRH-IR release into maternal perfusate in a concentration-dependent manner, but did not inhibit CRH-IR release into the fetal perfusate. N omega-nitro-L-arginine (100 mumol/L) increased placental CRH-IR secretion into fetal perfusate, and this effect was reversed by the infusion of L-arginine (100 mumol/L), which also reduced release below basal levels. In contrast, maternal perfusate CRH-IR levels were not affected by N omega-nitro-L-arginine or L-arginine. These results indicate that the human perfused placenta in vitro releases a substance of similar mol wt and hCRH-IR. Moreover, modulators of the NO signaling pathway differentially affect placental secretion of CRH-IR into the maternal and fetal perfusates. These data are consistent with the involvement of NO in the regulation of placental CRH release during pregnancy.  相似文献

OBJECTIVE: To assess the factors that predict operative mortality after intestinal infarction, and show what effect referral patterns have on mortality. DESIGN: Retrospective study. SETTING: Two university departments of surgery, France. SUBJECTS: 144 patients with intestinal infarctions operated on between January 1980 and August 1995. INTERVENTIONS: Univariate and multivariate analyses. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: Operative mortality and the factors associated with it. RESULTS: Operative mortality was 67% (96/144) during the first 45 days postoperatively. The univariate analysis showed that age over 75 years (p=0.0002), female sex (p=0.007), the presence of shock (p < 0.0001), and referral from cardiovascular medical or surgical unit (p=0.01) were significantly associated with mortality. However, the multivariate analysis reduced these to extent of infarction (p=0.0001), the presence of shock (p=0.0002), age over 75 years (p=0.0001), and recent cardiac or vascular operation (p=0.03). CONCLUSIONS: The influence of referral pattern was related to previous cardiac or vascular operation, and the risk among women to the fact that their age was 10 years older than that of men. This study shows how the type of referral may explain the wide variations in reported mortality. To compare published series, care should be taken to avoid any selection bias.  相似文献

More than 95% of the alumina was extracted from various silicates, such as anorthosite, clay, and kyanite, containing 30 to 45% alumina, in the melting-quenching-sulfuric acid leaching experiments conducted by the U. S. Bureau of Mines. Requirements for optimum extraction consisted of quenching the melted materials to a completely amorphous state and adjusting the weight ratio of SiO2 to CaO + Na2O in the quenched product within the range of about 3.0 to 3.7. At higher ratios, recovery of alumina decreased, and at lower ratios gelation of the leach-slurry ensued. The pregnant solution was readily separable from the leached residues, a basic sodium aluminum sulfate was precipitated from the solution at 200° C, by hydrolysis, and alumina was produced from the precipitate.  相似文献

Recent studies have demonstrated that long-chain n−3 PUFA (LCn-3PUFA) are beneficial in reducing the risk of cardiac arrhythmias. This study was conducted to determine the extent of incorporation of LCn-3PUFA into human atrium following supplementation with a fish oil concentrate high in LCn-3PUFA. Volunteers preparing for coronary bypass surgery were randomized either to the treatment group (n=8), receiving 6 g/d of fish oil concentrate (4.4 g of LCn-3PUFA), or the placebo group (n=9), receiving 6 g/d of olive oil for a minimum period of 6 wk. Blood samples were collected prior to commencement of treatment, and preoperatively before bypass surgery. Atrial biopsies were obtained during surgery. The plasma and atrium samples were analyzed by GC following trans-methylation to determine FA profile. Post-supplementation, the treatment group had significantly higher plasma levels of 20∶5n−3, 22∶5n−3, and 22∶6n−3 than the placebo group. Analysis of the atrium total lipids revealed a significant increase in the proportion of 20∶5n−3 following fish oil supplementation. There was no significant difference in the concentration of 22∶5n−3 and 22∶6n−3 in the atrium total lipids; however, an upward trend was observed in subjects receiving fish oil supplementation. In the phospholipid fraction of the atrium, both 20∶5n−3 and 22∶6n−3 increased, whereas 20∶4n−6 levels decreased. This study demonstrates for the first time that short-term supplementation with fish oil concentrate results in significant incorporation of LNc-3PUFA with a concomitant depletion of the eicosanoid substrate (20∶4n−6) in the human atrium.  相似文献

Accurate time transfer and synchronization between different network nodes is a key functional requirement in digital communication. Developments in optical fiber-based frequency dissemination techniques have improved optical frequency stability over time to much lower levels. In this work, we experimentally present the reference frequency transfer employing 850 nm vertical cavity surface emitting laser (VCSEL) over 100.3 m OM3 multimode fiber for synchronization of clocks on networked devices such as servers and racks/pod at different data center network nodes. A low-cost power-efficient multimode VCSEL with central wavelength at 844.26 nm is directly modulated with a 2 GHz reference frequency (RF) clock signal, and transferred over 100.3 m of OM3 multimode fiber. The single side band (SSB) phase noise of ?104.62 dBc/Hz and ?100.70 dBc/Hz is experimentally measured at back-to-back (B2B) and 100.3 m OM3 multimode fiber transmission respectively at a 1 kHz frequency offset. The jitter stability of 0.14 ps and 0.15 ps is experimentally achieved at B2B and 100.3 m fiber transmission, respectively. This work provides an alternative viable approach for the development of time keeping devices in high-speed short-reach optical communication systems.  相似文献

Optical fibre communication technologies are playing important roles in data centre networks (DCNs). Techniques for increasing capacity and flexibility for the inter-rack/pod communications in data centres have drawn remarkable attention in recent years. In this work, we propose a low complexity, reliable, alternative technique for increasing DCN capacity and flexibility through multi-signal modulation onto a single mode VCSEL carrier. A 20 Gbps 4-PAM data signal is directly modulated on a single mode 10 GHz bandwidth VCSEL carrier at 1310 nm, therefore, doubling the network bit rate. Carrier spectral efficiency is further maximized by modulating its phase attribute with a 2 GHz reference frequency (RF) clock signal. We, therefore, simultaneously transmit a 20 Gbps 4-PAM data signal and a phase modulated 2 GHz RF signal using a single mode 10 GHz bandwidth VCSEL carrier. It is the first time a single mode 10 GHz bandwidth VCSEL carrier is reported to simultaneously transmit a directly modulated 4-PAM data signal and a phase modulated RF clock signal. A receiver sensitivity of ?10. 52 dBm was attained for a 20 Gbps 4-PAM VCSEL transmission. The 2 GHz phase modulated RF clock signal introduced a power budget penalty of 0.21 dB. Simultaneous distribution of both data and timing signals over shared infrastructure significantly increases the aggregated data rate at different optical network units within the DCN, without expensive optics investment. We further demonstrate on the design of a software-defined digital signal processing assisted receiver to efficiently recover the transmitted signal without employing costly receiver hardware.  相似文献

To realize the full potential of nanocrystals in nanotechnology, it is necessary to integrate single nanocrystals into addressable structures; for example, arrays and periodic lattices. The current methods for achieving this are reviewed. It is shown that a combination of top-down lithography techniques with directed assembly offers a platform for attaining this goal. The most promising of these directed assembly methods are reviewed: capillary force assembly, electrostatic assembly, optical printing, DNA-based assembly, and electrophoretic deposition. The last of these appears to offer a generic approach to fabrication of single-nanocrystal arrays.  相似文献

This work experimentally demonstrates the potential of multi-level pulse amplitude modulation with direct detection to maximize carrier spectral efficiency and double the Gigabit passive optical networks (G-PON) network data rate. Three scenarios have experimentally been exploited. First, a 1310?nm vertical surface-emitting laser (VCSEL) has directly been modulated with a 10?Gbps OOK data. A receiver sensitivity of ?19.11?dBm is attained, and a successful error free transmission over 22?km SMF fibre achieved, with a transmission penalty of 0.46?dB. To maximize carrier spectral efficiency, 2/4 PAM modulation formats are adopted respectively. A receiver sensitivity of ?14.64 and ?11.63?dBm is attained for 2-PAM and 4-PAM formats respectively. However, a 3.21?km fibre transmission introduces a penalty of 0.64 and 3.30?dB for 2-PAM and 4-PAM formarts respectively. 2/4-PAM modulation formats significantly increase the aggregated data rate at different ONUs within the G-PON without expensive optics investment, though at the cost of reduced transmission reach due to the high bitrate attained. We further demonstrate the design of a software defined digital signal processing assisted receiver to recover the 2/4 PAM transmitted signal without employing costly receiver hardware.  相似文献
