The use of agro-industrial waste for food enrichment can be limited, due to taste, odour, colour and other unpleasant characteristics. Trub (brewing waste) has important nutrients, such as proteins and carbohydrates, and phytochemical compounds; however, its applications are hindered by the astringent flavour. In order to reduce the bitterness of trub, aqueous extractions were realized at high temperature (100 °C per 1 h) in five steps. Two fractions were obtained; a liquid fraction (containing bitter compounds) and a solid fraction (the trub after the extraction process; TAP). Both fractions and the trub before the extraction process (TBP) were evaluated. The bitterness of TBP was significantly reduced in TAP while the protein content increased; TAP presented a branched network and changes in its structure. The reduction in bitterness and the high protein content allows the use of trub in the food industry. 相似文献

A method to separate squalene from palm fatty acid distillate (PFAD) using neutralization‐hydrolysis‐neutralization before employing adsorption column chromatography was developed. Extraneous matters, especially free fatty acids (83.8%) and acylglycerols (12.7%), were first neutralized and removed before being subjected to hydrolysis by using commercially available, immobilized Candida antartica lipase, at 65 °C for 8 h. Neutralization followed by hydrolysis and repeated neutralization successfully concentrated squalene from an initial amount of 3.76% to 27.5%. Oil extracted from neutralized‐hydrolyzed‐neutralized PFAD was then passed through a Diaion HP‐20 column using reverse‐phase adsorption chromatography. Squalene was desorbed by hexane, with a recovery of 93%. 相似文献

This paper studies the relationship between urbanization and life satisfaction in European NUTS 2 regions in the period 2004–2011 based on individual level data. Results suggest that life satisfaction is greater in regions characterized by intermediate levels of urbanization. Urbanization benefits also filter down along the regional urban hierarchy and are especially positive for those individuals living in rural areas of urbanized regions. Eastern European countries depart from this average trend, and, generally, experience negative direct and indirect urbanization effects, especially in the most urbanized regions. 相似文献

Background
Results from epidemiological studies indicate that particulate air pollution constitutes a hazard for human health. Recent studies suggest that diesel exhaust possesses endocrine activity and therefore may affect reproductive outcome. This study in mice aimed to investigate whether exposure to diesel exhaust particles (DEP; NIST 2975) would affect gestation, postnatal development, activity, learning and memory, and biomarkers of transplacental toxicity. Pregnant mice (C57BL/6; BomTac) were exposed to 19 mg/m3 DEP (~1·106 particles/cm3; mass median diameter ? 240 nm) on gestational days 9–19, for 1 h/day.Results
Gestational parameters were similar in control and diesel groups. Shortly after birth, body weights of DEP offspring were slightly lower than in controls. This difference increased during lactation, so by weaning the DEP exposed offspring weighed significantly less than the control progeny. Only slight effects of exposure were observed on cognitive function in female DEP offspring and on biomarkers of exposure to particles or genotoxic substances.Conclusion
In utero exposure to DEP decreased weight gain during lactation. Cognitive function and levels of biomarkers of exposure to particles or to genotoxic substances were generally similar in exposed and control offspring. The particle size and chemical composition of the DEP and differences in exposure methods (fresh, whole exhaust versus aged, resuspended DEP) may play a significant role on the biological effects observed in this compared to other studies. 相似文献95.

In this paper, we present a new method for computing extensions and for deriving formulae from a default theory. It is based on the semantic tableaux method and works for default theories with a finite set of defaults that are formulated over a decidable subset of first-order logic. We prove that all extensions (if any) of a default theory can be produced by constructing the semantic tableau ofone formula built from the general laws and the default consequences. This result allows us to describe an algorithm that provides extensions if there are any, and to decide if there are none. In this article, we characterize in terms of analytic tableaux the repairs of inconsistent relational databases, that is databases that do not satisfy a given set of integrity constraints. For this purpose we provide closing and opening criteria for branches in tableaux that are built for database instances and their integrity constraints. Differentiation of human embryonic stem cells is widely studied as a potential unlimited source for cell replacement therapy to treat degenerative diseases such as diabetes. The directed differentiation of human embryonic stem cells relies mainly on soluble factors. Although, some studies have highlighted that the properties of the physical environment, such as substrate stiffness, affect cellular behavior. Here, mass‐produced, injection molded polycarbonate nanopillars are presented, where the surface mechanical properties, i.e., stiffness, can be controlled by the geometric design of the ultrahigh aspect ratio nanopillars (stiffness can be reduced by 25.0003). It is found that tall nanopillars, yielding softer surfaces, significantly enhance the induction of definitive endoderm cells from pluripotent human embryonic stem cells, resulting in more consistent differentiation of a pure population compared to planar control. By contrast, further differentiation toward the pancreatic endoderm is less successful on “soft” pillars when compared to “stiff” pillars or control, indicating differential cues during the different stages of differentiation. To accompany the mechanical properties of the nanopillars, the concept of surface shear modulus is introduced to describe the characteristics of engineered elastic surfaces through micro or nanopatterning. A fluorescence resonance energy transfer pair consisting of a colloidal quantum dot donor and multiple organic fluorophores as acceptors is reported and the photophysics of the system is characterized. Most nanoparticle-based biosensors reported so far use the detection of specific changes of the donor/acceptor distance under the influence of analyte binding. Our nanoparticle design on the other hand leads to sensors that detect spectral changes of the acceptor (under the influence of analyte binding) at fixed donor/acceptor distance by the introduction of the acceptor into the polymer coating. This approach allows for short acceptor-donor separation and thus for high-energy transfer efficiencies. Advantageously, the binding properties of the hydrophilic polymer coating further allows for addition of poly(ethylene glycol) shells for improved colloidal stability. 相似文献
